I don't know much about Santonio Holmes, but Clarett has had so many chances it's clear he's a bum with lousy character. There was an incident involving Warren Moon and his wife at one time. Yet I don't think most people would write Moon off as a poor character bum. I'll wait and see how things progress over the next year or two or three, unless Whitner gets into a lot more trouble in the near term than he apparently has gotten himself into this time.

Age of TBD Poster who is for or against JP
TigerJ replied to diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
54 The rest of the year, but he's go to show me more in the last eight games than I saw in the first eight games to win my support for next year. -
I'd lean toward Plummer in that list. Until the Bills have an offensive line that can protect the QB better, they have to have a mobile QB. Plummer's the only one on that list that shows much. Leftwich is smart and has a great arm, but he's a statue.

I'm operating under the assumption that Pennington will pan out as RT. I think Gandy might be OK at LG, which leads me to conclude that Buffalo's most immediate need on the offensive line for next year will be at RG, where Chris Villarrial can't stay healthy. He wasn't healthy last season. He hasn't been full healthy yet this season. The Green Bay game might be the first of the season. The problem with drafting a rookie to plug in is that Pennington will be just a second year player. If he's really precocious that might work, but Pennington didn't come from a big scho9ol and he was pretty raw when drafted. It's a lot to expect he can learn enough to both handle his own position and help out a rookie next year. If Reyes can handle it, I probably would move him in to start at RG next season, and draft a guard in the second or third round to groom as a future starter. Then there is the possiblity that Merz really blossoms. He actually handled himself OK the one game he started.

Where should we go, what should we do?
TigerJ replied to king bucko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Buffalo drafts at #5 or #6 I think I would prefer they look to trade down. If they pick at #12, it will depend how the draft falls, but if theire's a good player at a need position, I think I might stay put. -
Mike aka "Ron Mexico" Vick: I could be a real QB

I trust the Bills did their homework on Hargrove, but it should not have been too hard for Hargrove to call his coach and tell him his kid was sick. If he did and they said, "Forget the kid, come to practice," that's another story.

OK...this is what I dont understand about the DT
TigerJ replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McFarland isn't very big as DTs run. He's very short, so that makes he girth greater than some others in that weight range. I think he's 6 foot or a bit less. He is very quick though, which is why he's considered a good Tampa 2 DT. I would like to have seen him in Buffalo. I don't know what the obstacle was for Marv to pull the trigger. Whether it was the price of a trade of "Booger's" salary or what. -
I really don't know what Kelsay's asking price will be after the season. I personally don't think he's a liability. So whether or not he stays will depend on the economics of the team. I think Hargrove will be tendered an offer and will stay with the team next season, I think he may will prove to be the second best DE on the team by season's end. Powell has to prove to me he's more than an emergency back up and a scrub.

Is it a trend? B'gal's #2 Anthony Wright

It's an epidemic. Fortunately I'm immune. I had mine out in 1982. -
I don't understand the "afraid to play winless"
TigerJ replied to ofiba's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are several reasons for that notion. There is the fact that a winless team at this point in the season realistically is not going to make the playoffs. They may therefore be a little looser, moreso than a team afraid of the consequences of losing their next game. There is the law of averages. "At some point they are going to win one." Not many teams ever have a winless season and there is a fear, irrationalthough it might be that if fate decrees this is the game that breaks the streak, there's not much you can do about it. I think the reason that has the most merit is the danger your own players could have a let down and play with less intensity because this is an "easy" game. -
Okam is a fairly big dude. Other than that, I don't know much about him. Can he play a one gap system like the Bills use?

I have a very bad feeling that when we play the
TigerJ replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know that Vincent is better than what NE has already at this point. That's not to say their corners and free safety are that great, but Vincent has slipped a lot. He's not that fast any more and he's tentative, missing tackles. Plus he's not in playing shape. If NE did sign him, I doubt he'd take the field in the Bills game. Of course, Belichick is not above signing the guy just to pick his brain regarding the Bills defense. He probably already as Bills offensive and special team play books in his library courtesy Jonathon Smith. -
Haloti Ngata. I haven't followed the Ravens too closely but I know he had one big play this year, a fumble recovery run back for a TD I think. I assume from that he's doing OK.
-
Arizona is not thrilled with Davis at the moment, so he will be cut loose. I wouldn't mind signing him, but he may be awfully pricey. I read somewhere his current salary is over 9 mill. I don't know if that's going to come down, but if it doesn't it may be too much for a right tackle. Darnell Dockett would be a terrific penetrating type DT if Buffalo is looking for one at that point. I presume McCargo will be fine and the Bills like Larry Tripplett though, so Dockett might be a luxury the Bills can't afford.

It's really about who has a better grasp of what's going on in JP's head. I think everyone knows JP has ample talent, a good arm, mobility, and some intelligence. Some of the national media types see only a cocky kid who is uncoachable and will always panic and run around like a headless chicken when he faces a little pressure. I think I'm seeing a kid who is dedicated to the game and to getting better, and who has done everything his coaches have asked of him. We saw a little of the headless chicken in the Chicago game, but Chicago has made other QBs look bad too. I am willing to wait longer before I decide he can't learn to behave differently in a game like the Chicago game.

Dickering=the act of bargaining over price Bickering = the act of fighting over small issues.

I'm thinking of the Vonage commercial where the geek is dumping the hot babe driving a hot convertible who promises to do anything for him.

At least Tuaolo was big enough to stand up to some abuse. Peter Pan would get killed in the locker room.

Will McCargo return by end of year?
TigerJ replied to coachhillenbrand's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm guessing McCargo would miss at least eight games. Doing the math, that would mean he's back for three games. I really don't think it's worth saving a roster spot for him for 3 lousy games. I'd put him on IR in a minute. -
My guess is he would not be a quick penetrating type of DT like McCargo.
-
Gays may have equal rights in society, but a gay DT would not survive in the NFL.

I've been saying I think the 2007 Bills will do some major damage/kick some major butt. That would have the Bills follow the same pattern as the '87 and '88 Bills.

The bears game doesn't really mean much
TigerJ replied to HudsonValleyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know it's cliche, but I think every game is important. Even if you write the Bills off as a playoff competitor, each game brings a different kind of challenge. The Bears were a huge test because they are an elite team right now. The Bills flunked that test, not so much because they lost, but because they got intimidated; dropped passes, dumb penalties, missed tackles, errant passes that they normally would have made. OK that game is history . Now the Bills have a different kind of test on Sunday. Can they put the humiliation behind them and come out with renewed focus and beat a team they are supposed to beat? They are all worth a one in the win column. Every game can teach a team something about itself. -
Good poss. 3 Starting OL out for Det vs Bill
TigerJ replied to coachhillenbrand's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wonder if Buffalo has any 3-4 packages in their defensive arsenal. With Spikes being healthy, or close to it, and the Bills shy a DT, it might be to the Bills benefit to do some of that if it's in their defensive playbook.
