Allegany/Olean is heaven compared with the town I grew up in down the road - Salamanca.

If Cleveland takes a QB again, it could complicate matters. I assume the Giants are going to complete their house cleaning by adding a new high round one QB. The other New Jersey team may also pick a QB. Rosen, Darnold and Jackson could all be gone before Buffalo picks.
-
I haven't really narrowed down my college QB interests yet. I'm going to be watching the off season draft prep process with a lot of interest though. I suspect Rosen and Darnold are the least likely to drop to the point where Buffalo would have a shot without a trade up. If Cleveland drafts another QB and the Giants want a shiny new QB, the Bills might not even have a shot with a trade up. There might be a whole bunch of possible first round QBs taken, however, and the Bills will have a shot at several of them.

I have not seen him at all, so I really don't have an opinion. Second hand information tells me he has plenty of raw talent, but would have to be regarded as a developmental prospect even though he's played in a pro style offense. I might draft him, but not high in round one, and not with the expectation he's going to start for me next year.

I hadn't seen that article from Jeremiah. Very interesting. It's not set in stone, but NFL executive opinions carry more weight than the Mel Kipers and Todd McShays of the world.

Beane and McDermott have talked about winning now and winning in the future. I think that perhaps they have misread how some of their personnel moves would affect play on the field this season. It remains to be seen how they will pan out for the future. It seems like the ultimate intent of threads like this is to see Beane and McDermott get fired. I think that is absolutely the stupidest thing that the Bills could possibly do. We need to let the transition process play out and evaluate the product on the field when it is at least a lot closer to the finished product. The single biggest factor in the playoff drought has been the lack of continuity. Somebody: owner/GM has pulled the plug too soon. You can't win if you're always in transition.

Get paid to talk about the Bills (research study)

Could be fun, but I live a couple hours away. I doubt you'd be willing to drive out my way, and I'm not going to drive to Buffalo for a $20 gift card. I'm sure there are plenty of fans in Erie County. -
Who do you want to start this week, Peterman or Taylor?
TigerJ replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peterman, but it's not a big deal for me. -
Is McBean trying to pull a Cashman Move?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Bills let Jordan Matthews walk. I will be very surprised if the sign Watkins, not that I would object. -
I am a relatively casual observer of NFL prospects in college. My observation is that among those who take prospect watching far more seriously, there is absolutely no consensus about who the top QB is, or who will be the top pick in the draft. For example: I just looked at a random list of most of the mock drafts published on the internet over the past 6 days. Of the 14 mocks, Sam Darnold is the top overall pick in three of them. Josh Rosen is the top pick in 8 of them. Lamar Jackson is named in two of them and Saquon Barkley in one. I don't know that any of these mock drafts have been produced by former NFL GMs or any kind of certified experts. I am pretty sure that you are not an expert either. You are welcome to your opinion. Just please remember that's all it is, just like mine.

Mayfield has had some off field drinking issues. Any team interested in drafting him is going to have to do their due diligence, and they still could be taking a risk. I think he's better on the field than Johnny Manziel was and I think his ability translates better to the NFL. I don't think Darnold is quite as instinctive. I still expect him to do well in the NFL.
-
Interesting. There are a lot of hurdles though. Darnold is said to be mulling the idea of returning to school for his senior season. If he doesn't there is the question of where his value lies. There's no doubt he's a first round pick, but I think there is some question how high he could be picked and still be a good value. Some prognosticators think he will be the first play taken in the draft, but others have several other QBs rated higher. The question for Buffalo is how much are they willing to over pay for the right to draft him. They can either over pay or gamble that he drops. Then, it's also possible that Beane is pulling a few pages from the books of other GMs and blowing Sam Darnold smoke when the player he really covets is someone else entirely. I like Darnold and he might be able to start his first year, but there are some things he's got to work on. He does have a really good pedigree as many in his family have been quality athletes in a number of sports.

Some GOOD news. Chiefs lost :)
TigerJ replied to BadLandsMeanie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah. They have three division games coming up and it looks like they could lose at least a couple of those. That means they finish no better than 8-8 and lose their hold on the division championship. That probably drops them out of the playoffs and brings that first round draft choice to the middle of the pack. That is a nice consolation considering they once looked like possible Super Bowl winners. -
Tyrod is done in Buffalo. I think everybody knows that. I think we should remember, though, that Tyrod was an upgrade over what Buffalo had otherwise. It's just time to move on to something else. Peterman is going to get a 4 game tryout now. The results may not be conclusive, but should tell us quite a bit. I think he needs to become a little more careful in his reads, but I like that he is decisive and throws a pretty accurate ball. He didn't have a great completion percentage today, but receivers dropped several balls that were on the money. He had the one ill advised pass.
-
Agreed. That changed the whole course of the game.

Tyrod injury: patella contusion, day-to-day
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah! Judging from the looks of things, he's done for the season. He hasn't done anything to really say to the Bills' brain trust, "You really need to keep me." -
Hypothetically if Giants release Manning
TigerJ replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills would not have to worry about the signing bonus, so he would cost something like 16, million against the cap. If you pick him up, you assume he is your starter next year. If he doesn't work out, the financial fallout doesn't hurt too much - you just cut him. The only issue is that you're left with plan B. You'd better hope your plan B is good enough because by the time you figure out that Manning is not going to work out for you, it'll be too late to develop any other good plans from scratch. -
Should we take a look at other QB flyers?
TigerJ replied to BringBackOrton's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills decide Tyrod is done, they will need to acquire at least 2 more QBs in the offseason. They will go into training camp with 4. Peterman and Webb can be holdovers, though Webb is more of an emergency QB. Presumably one of the new ones will be a draft choice to compete with Peterman as the official QB of the future. They will also need a veteran free agent as insurance in case the youngsters don't pan out. My guess is the budget for a veteran free agent won't be especially high, as the hope will be for Peterman or ??? will end up as the starter, but they will need to offer enough to sign one who is not on the NFL scrap heap. -

His name got by me too.

If it were lunch with Rex Ryan, it would at least be entertaining.

Dion Dawkins 2nd highest graded rookie OT
TigerJ replied to SaviorPeterman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't follow the salary cap situation very closely, and I couldn't tell you what Glenn will cost against the cap next season, but take that away as a factor and I don't see any point in dumping Glenn. The original plan was for Dawkins to compete at RT where the real problem has been this season. It was Glenn's foot injury that forced the Bills to kieep playing Dawkins there instead of learning the RT spot. I have not heard any suggestion that Glenn's foot is the kind of injury that is going to bother him the rest of his career. What happens is that injuries that occur during the season just don't have the time to really heal up because of the pressure to play with it. -
I was a LeRoy Kelly fan back in the days before Buffalo drafted OJ Simpson and I discovered the Bills.

Yeah, I was concerned with the Bills D-line's lack of mass after they traded Dareus. The concern I have with Coleman is he's pretty limited in pass defense. I can see Bill Belichick passing on a lot of "run" downs and running the ball on so call "obvious" passing downs when Coleman is out of the lineup. That's why, ultimately, you want guys on your D-line that are both big and athletic.
