  1. I thought Tyrod played about as well as I've seen him in the first half. Whether it was play calling or Tyrod's own innate caution kicking in during the second half, he was far less impressive.
  2. I think for the OP, "Trust the process." has become cliche. For fans, it may seem that way, but I think McDermott came in here believing it, and now players have bought in. I think it is real. We haven't made the playoffs yet, and still might not this season, but I think you can see the process in the reduction in sloppy, careless play and in penalties in particular. I believe the Bills are trending upward, and I'm encouraged.
  3. I've been saying for several weeks that I think the Bills are a borderline playoff team. That is, they might make it or they might not. With 2 weekends to go in the regular season, they still look that way. If they do make the playoffs, it would be surprising if they do much of anything, but It would still be nice to say we broke the drought.
  4. This coaching staff has easily done enough to warrant another year. They've not been perfect, but the need for some continuity in the organization far outweighs the coaching mistakes and misjudgments that have been made. There is no reason to think they can't improve next season.
  5. The Titans have a brutal two game finish to their schedule. They are are going to be heavy underdogs to both Jacksonville and the Rams. It would be pretty shocking if they can win either one of those two games. So, if Buffalo can win one more it is highly likely they're in. Easier said than done. Now that New England has the head to head tiebreaker with the Steelers for home field advantage throughout the playoffs, they will be highly motivated to play their best next week to maintain their playoff position. The following week, on New Years Eve, Miami will be home and motivated to try and gain payback in the rematch with the Bills. It's not impossible for the Bills to win one of both games, but it won't be easy. I think it is pretty obvious Miami was affected by the cold temps today, having had quite a few drops. Hopefully, it won't be so warm in Miami as to create a weather advantage for the Dolphins on December 31, but Buffalo does lose the weather advantage they had today, and Miami gains the crowd and other intagibles from being at home in two weeks.
  6. Roquon Smith - Middle linebacker. I like Vita Vea at DT. He'd make it a lot tougher for opponents to run inside on Buffalo. I like Equanimeous St. Brown at WR. I think he can be had in the second round. He has a first round skill set but his production suffered from a change in Notre Dame's offensive philosophy. He also has one of the coolest neames ever! I like St. Brown's teammate at ND - Quentin Nelson at guard. He's big, athletic and mean. At QB, it's tough to know who could be the best pick Buffalo could make in the first round. There is a decent chance QBs could go 1 and 2 at the top of the draft, especially id Sam Darnold comes out. If he returns to school it becomes more problematic because there are still a lot of teams that need QBs. I don't want Josh Allen because I think he's a 2-3 year project. Lamar Jackson is intriguing. He seems like something of a cross between Michael Vick and Deshaun Watson. I believe he will make a successful transition to the NFL. I also like the headiness of Baker Mayfield. That's about it for the first round. There are others I wouldn't mind a bit later. If you draft in the first round, it is with the assumption he's going to start sooner rather than later. If you draft after the first round, then you're drafting for competition between Nate Peterman and the draftee. Later possibilities include Luke Falk, Drew Lock, Clayton Thorson, Mason Rudolph and maybe a few others.
  7. Tyrod has more pure athleticism. Russell Wilson is more instinctive in the passing game and far more able to throw with anticipation. I think Seattle's OC wrestles with fewer limitations than does Buffalo's.
  8. I think it is the other way around. They have identical records right now. Buffalo has played both teams - beat KC and lost to the Chargers. If the Chargers go on to win the division, that leaves KC to compete with the Bills for a wild card spot, and the first tie breaker is head to head. Buffalo wins it. They lose the same tie breaker if they are going up against the Chargers.
  9. So, Dunkirk Don, does your source say there is no chance of Cordy Glenn being retained?
  10. Concussions vary greatly in severity. The fact that he was a full participant in practices for the last couple days suggests it's not going to be a 3-4 week issue, but he wasn't going to play Sunday in any case. I think he'll probably be available again before the end of the season and that whether or not he plays again will be a coaching decision, not a medical one.
  11. I think his football character will scare the Bills off.
  12. I wouldn't think there are many quality free agents out there. Do the Bills find somebody, or do they activate someone from the practice squad? They do have one tackle on the PS - DeOndre Wesley
  13. The only issue for me is the nature of his injury. When healthy, he is a very good left tackle. If this injury is going to be a chronic issue for him going forward, then yes, it's maybe time for him to retire. If he just needs surgery or time to fully recuperate, then there is no reason he couldn't combine with Dawkins to create an outstanding tackle tandem for the Bills.
  14. There are a number of highly regarded DTs who will end up being in the draft. Wilkins from Clemson, Payne from Alabama, (BTW, I think he should change his first name from Da'Ron to "Icause") Vita Vea from Washington, and Maurice Hurst from Michigan are all considered possible first rounders. Unless Hurst proves to have Aaron Donald - like athleticism, I would be wary of him because he is undersized.
  15. At some point early in the off season, the Bills are going to make a decision whether to pursue a quality veteran QB (either via trade or free agency) or to attempt to draft a projected starter, and possibly signing a third tier veteran as backup insurance. The decision will depend mostly on the cost and quality of available veteran QBs. This is a prediction, not inside information. I also think it is common sense.
  16. Even without inside information, it's obvious the Bills are exploring post Tyrod options, and Cousins, Viking QBs and Alex Smith would be among the possibilities that might come to fruition in the off season. Personally, I suspect that Cousins might turn out to be cost prohibitive, and I would definitely look in a different direction if Washington pursues a sign and trade strategy. Way too pricey! Alex Smith should be a little less expensive, but definitely not cheap. A spare Vikings QB seems more realistic. Thanks, Dunkirk Don. Even though I can't accept what you say as gospel, I do appreciate your reporting. I haven't heard anything from you that could be considered outlandish. Everything has been feasible, and therefore worth thinking about.
  17. Dawkins is a keeper. I like Glenn too. I think there is room for both on the team if Glenn can get past his injured foot issue.
  18. If Rodgers can lead the Pack to victories against a murderer's row of opponents over the next three games, they deserve to be in the playoffs.
  19. There are always going to be cynics and rude people. I'm not saying I believe everything you report, but I always find it interesting. I think with information like this, you file it away, and if it happens - great - you feel like you were in the loop. If not, it's not a huge disappointment.
  20. That's about where I am. I understand the health issues, but I also think that by next season Nate Peterman could be a very good backup QB even if he's not quite ready to start. By that, I think the Bills can win the Peterman as QB next season. I think that if the Bills sign a high profile QB in the off season (Sam Bradford qualifies) they will not draft a QB high in the draft. I could see them drafting another developmental type, if they agree with me that Peterman is ready to be a quality backup. That would create some nice competition for the future.
  21. I think they probably will miss the playoffs. It's not impossible, however. I think next year will give us a much better idea of the potential of the McDermott coaching regime, and I also think next year is the most likely end of the playoff drought.
  22. Not a huge surprise. The part about Peterman will either be supported or refuted by the injury report tomorrow, but even if he's healthy by Sunday, he's a rookie QB who will not have had a lot of practice reps this week because of the concussion protocol. A coach would have to be an idiot to start him.
  23. I may be ready to agree with you in a year or so. I'm not ready yet.
  24. Absolutely. I am concerned for the future of our country and western culture in general because of irresponsibility in parenting.
  25. I'm leery of the cap commitment it would take to land Cousins if he hits free agency. If Washington attempts a tag and trade, it's even worse. I'd tend to go the draft route.
