Kumerow signs with the Bills PS
TigerJ replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is cheap insurance. He's got great size and some NFL experience. He's also a process guy. You can do worse in a PS player. -
DT Chris Slayton signed to Bills PS.

My suspicion as well. He is 6'4" and played his college ball at 307 lbs. He is said to be freakishly strong, but not a disruptive player on the inside. He's not terribly explosive and needs work on hand fighting. He sounds like a better fit at nose than at 3 tech, but has some upside in the hands of a good D-line coach. -
Maybe, but Bruce Arians thinks there's at least a chance Rosen can make a go of an NFL career. BTW, I was not one of those who was all in on Rosen before the 2018 draft. I didn't like him that much. That hasn't really changes, but I know life throws us surprises now and then.
-
I think Rosen ended up in about the best possible destination for him, finally. In Tampa Bay, he's got a Hall of Fame QB in front of him, and a quarterback whisperer for a head coach. If he can't learn how to be a QB in that environment, hen he can't learn, plain and simple. Oh, and that Hall of Fame QB in front of him has one foot in the grave. The guy can't play forever, so Rosen has the possibility of a starting gig whenever Brady hangs up his cleats. It's hard to imagine that being more than a couple years from now.

Nothing I heard suggested that was the case. He did everything expected of him, and he's thrilled to be back. If there is an injury, Buffalo could find themselves a bit thin at DT. There are two guys on the PS. Chris Slayton looks more like a one tech and Justin Zimmer looks like a 3 tech. I imagine they would be OK in those roles for a short term (a game or 2) emergency. A season ending injury to one of the top four guys might send the team scrambling though. Quinton Jefferson can play some RDE, but I think his home is as an under tackle or 3 tech. I think he's an all around tackle. He's not going to be a lights out disruptive pass rusher, but he can get some pressure, and he's pretty solid in run defense too. Ed Oliver, of course, has what many think of as star potential. He could be a really good, even great pass rusher on the interior, and he's no slouch at run defense.

That's what I'm thinking. Have several try out, keep a few names and phone numbers on your rolodex, or however they do that now in the computer age

Kumerow isn't going to become a star, but he's big and dependable, and can block. He's 6'4 1/2" and runs a 4.54, not too bad for a big guy. And he's a process guy all the way. He has played in and started a few games. You can do a lot worse for a practice squad player.

Slayton is probably closer to Vincent Taylor than Tanzel Smart. At this point I don't think he would be a terribly disruptive pass rusher, but he's very strong. Needs coaching to improve hand fighting.

17 years of Bills football prior to the tenure of McDermott and Beane have made me wary of counting my chickens before they're hatched. Yet Beane and McDermott have clearly done things the right way over the last three years. That has resulted in the recognition Buffalo has gotten this year among analysts. I'm eager to see how it plays out in the season, and hopeful that we'll continue to move in the right direction.

My thoughts on the roster: I'm a bit surprised a 10 offensive linemen. I expect Feliciano will go on short term injured reserve. That will bring it down to a more balanced roster number of 9. If Feliciano goes on short term IR, that may be the roster spot that goes to Andre Roberts. That will give Buffalo 7 WRs, which is also a big number. I'm glad Buffalo found a way to keep both Hodgins and McKenzie They both complement the receiving corps, but in different ways. Not missing Pat DiMarco. I think Gilliam, even though listed as a tight end, will give the Bills a lot of what DiMarco has done for them. Jason Croom on the PS will give a little more depth to the TE group. I was hoping for Webb to make the team over either Barkley or Fromm, but obviously the Bills saw things differently. Not surprise Wade didn't make the team. He generates some excitement when he's on the field, but I think TJ Yeldin gives Buffalo a far more complete player as depth to go with the two who will get the lion's share of touches. I thought Buffalo might keep five DTs, but extra players on offense took up roster spots. Trent Murphy is a "safe" choice to retain on the d-line even though I'd rather have one of the younger guys who got cut. Expect a couple of them on the PS. I'm glad Darryl Johnson made the team. I think he's going to continue developing. The Bills almost had to keep Epenesa as a second round draft pick. He does give them versatility and run defense even if he hasn't been as disruptive as hoped in pass rushing. As I said in another thread, I think Del'Shawn Phillips give Buffalo a potentially more durable linebacker than Corey Thompson. At 220 lbs soaking wet, I can't help but feel Thompson was going to get nicked up a lot. I think The Bills want to develop Phillips for the spot Klein will play in the upcoming season while Dodson will be the primary backup for Edmunds. Matakevich, of course, is your special teams demon who might get an occasional rep on defense. While Buffalo only has 3 safeties, Siran Neal can and will line up at safety on occasion. I think Buffalo will depend on the PS for some additional depth at DB, including Cam Lewis and Dane Jackson.

Would you let Kelvin Benjamin park your car?

Poor guy could catch a break if somebody tossed him one. -
Our newest LB Del'Shawn Phillips
TigerJ replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thompson was severely undersized even for Sean McDermott's defense. I think that may have been leading to durability issues. Phillips is 10 lbs heavier and every bit as athletic. If he's able to grasp the defense as well and he's a process guy, the size may be worth the experience the Bills are losing by cutting Thompson. At least that may be what the Bills are thinking. -
Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano should be the perfect linebackers to stop that strategy from working.
-
This would be my concern. I don't know that it has to be that dichotomy, but that's the most likely explanation for his lack of success in the league so far.

Will the Bills consider a 16 man Practice Squad???
TigerJ replied to LB48's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I absolutely expect Buffalo to use all 16 available spots on the PS. Whether it's COVID-19 or injuries due to an abbreviated training camp process, there could be an increased need for roster adjustments during the season. Brandon Beane will look for every piece of insurance he can put his hands on, and the PS is a major part of his roster insurance policy. The bigger the better. -
Not so sure. Adrian Peterson had 900 yards last season and 1000 yards two years ago.
-
I wouldn't be shocked if Vosean Joseph is added to the PS, but neither would I be shocked if he isn't. I think mentally he's not sufficiently up to speed to justify a roster spot. Whether or not he has potential to learn, is a judgment the Bills have to make. I think DiMarco to IR may clear the way for Gilliam. He's listed now for a different position, but he can do a lot of the same stuff as DiMarco. I'm not sure what the Bills are doing with Sweeney. Did he have to come off PUP to have any eligibility for the season. I could see the Bills putting him on IR after they reach 53.
-
That explains it. He doesn't know how to do it the right way. He's doing a grimace and trying to pass it off as a smile. Cheating yet again.

In and primed.

So with Cut Day happening on Saturday Any Suprises?
TigerJ replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably. However, if somebody predicts it, was it really a surprise?
