Source: Major Bills news coming next week
TigerJ replied to SaviorPeterman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I still don't get the vitriol directed at Savior Peterman. He said there was going to be major Bills news. There was. He didn't say what it was, and later explained why (it was obvious). He didn't know at the time. To be honest, I think some posters owe him an apology. -
Donald Jones to exit 'John Murphy Show'
TigerJ replied to ricojes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree Sal would do a fine job. I wonder though if WGR/the Bills would rather install a former Bills player in order to keep that perspective. -
Eric Wood has career-ending neck injury; will retire
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whatever the injury, it sounds as if he's not at particular risk in every day life. That's a good thing. I know he'd rather be playing football for a few more years, but there are other things he can do and stay healthy. If he wants to stay connected with football, he probably has the ability to get into coaching or media work. Thanks your you years of contribution to the team, Eric. -
Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen are available at 12
TigerJ replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I probably would do it, but I'm undecided about which one is preferable. -
I very much agree that Peterman has a chance to be the starter next season. All the signs point to Tyrod departing. Chris Brown wrote an article today at BB.com essentially telling fans not to expect Buffalo to make a trade into the top five in the draft (and probably not in the top ten). That means not Rosen, no Darnold, and probably no Allen. Unless the Bills sign one of the top 3 or 4 available veteran free agents at QB, the Bills will likely have a QB competition between Peterman and whatever veteran the do sign (I think they will sign somebody, but if it's not Cousins (it won't be), Alex Smith, Case Keenum, or Sam Bradford, Peterman has a realistic shot.

New punt returner? yeah, sure. New kick returner? Maybe not a big deal. Looking at all the games I've seen, kickoff coverage has become so consistent (or maybe it was rule changes that affected what return teams can do) nobody is consistently effective at running back kickoffs from the endzone. For every big return from the endzone, there are dozens of returns that fail to get to the 25 yard line. If I were the special teams coach, I would tell my returners to down any kickoff that reaches the endzone in the endzone.

For me, it's not about whether posters claiming inside info are trustworthy or not. For me it's not about believing or disbelieving what has been claimed. It's not actionable information unless somebody foolishly decides to buy or not buy season tickets because of it. I'm not doing that. It just gets thrown into the collection of off season speculation, rumors, mock drafts and everything else that helps make the off season a little more interesting from a football standpoint. I don't mind Dunkirk Don or Savior Peterson or anybody else making claims of inside info because it does no harm, at least to me. I really don't get the skeptics getting all bent out of shape by it any more than I would get a "true believer" mortgaging the farm because of what he/he has read.

I don't think there is any possible way that Buffalo can move up far enough to draft Darnold without giving up picks. Of the top three QBs, Rosen is the riskiest pick because of the red flags. He's a partier who is thought not to take football that seriously and is bad in the locker room. Even though he might be the most ready on the field, the risks are not worth where a team will need to draft him. Josh Allen might have the most physical talent, but his footwork is going to take some time to fix. Darnold is more ready for the pro game than Allen and has a far better attitude than Rosen. He's not a perfect QB, but he's a pretty safe pick early in the draft and should be able to play sooner rather than later. The notions of trading Glenn, a complete linebacker turnover and DT as a high priority are entirely feasible whether there is a source or not. Personally, I would not rule out Mayfield, Jackson and Rudolph, but then I have not looked at the at the level of detail that the Bills have and will. Any time someone posts "insider information," it is what it is - something that's not going to be corroborated. You can either believe it or not. You can't really do anything about it. The best you can hope for is if it pans out you can maybe feel like doing a little gloating because you "knew it was going to happen" and your friends didn't. Inside information is not actionable unless you're a stock market investor, and then you can get arrested for it. Otherwise, it just "is."

If the Bills get a veteran QB...........
TigerJ replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In all likelihood, the Bills will sign a veteran well before the draft. The identity of the veteran will determine their draft strategy with respect to QBs. The more years they can anticipate the veteran starting, the lower in the draft they will be looking for a QB. -
How about Mr. Personality - Bill Bellichick? Well, if he joined MNF, he'd have to step away from coaching the Cheatriots.

Mason Rudolph has tiny hands
TigerJ replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. The biggest hands of any QB entering the draft. I do think hand size is factor that teams look at for any position where the player might be handling the ball a lot, and especially quarterbacks. The fear is that with smaller hands it may be that fumbles are more likely or there may be more of a chance that passes will flutter making for more interceptions. Everything else being equal, you pick the guy with bigger hands. However, everything else is never equal. More important than hand size to quarterbacks is developing the habits that will help them do a better job of taking care of the ball. -
I think there is some wariness of Schwartz as a head coach dating from his less than stellar tenure at Detroit. I remember when Marrone quit, my hope was that the Bills would hire Hue Jackson and retain Jim Schwartz for the defense. I still think that might have been a successful combo, though anybody in Buffalo would have been limited by the QB situation. I don't think Jackson was at fault for the disaster that is Cleveland.

Pats create PI when they are losing
TigerJ replied to Matt_In_NH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. The Patriots absolutley call some pass plays hoping as much for a PI call as for a reception. PI is almost as valuable. -
I think through training camp and most of the season, but Bills tried to be supportive of Tyrod, except that he did not have an all world receiving corps. I'm not blaming the Bills, however as I think the Bills receivers were probably a little better than their production indicated. In other words, I think Tyrod held them back more than they held Tyrod back.
-
I regard Rudolph as being in the second tier of QBs. I would not object to the Bills drafting him at 21 or 22.
-
As big and strong as he is, he is supposed to have freaky quickness and can do a lot more than tie up blockers. I think he'd be fine in a 4-3.

Might as well not even watch the SB now
TigerJ replied to TheBeaneBandit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll watch and root against NE. I do like the fact that Frank Reich is Philly's OC. -
[Vague Title]I believe this.
TigerJ replied to Marvlevydraftdaygenius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're entitled to your opinion even if nobody shares it. -
When Tyrod beat out Manuel, I thought there would be improvement in QB play, and I think I was right. I gradually came to believe that Tyrod had a lower ceiling than the Bills needed at QB to become more than a borderline playoff team. That's were I've been for about a year. In the draft, I don't think it is likely to be feasible to trade up where Buffalo can draft one of the top 2 QBs (Rosen or Darnold) and I've heard enough about Rosen's attitude, I don't think I'd want him anyway. I would not be upset if Buffalo drafted someone from the second tier when their picks come up at 21 and 22. I consider the second tier to include Josh Allen (though some include him at the top with Darnold and Rosen. With Allen in that second tier are Mayfield, Rudolph, and Jackson. I also think it's possible that Buffalo will wait until the third tier.

I am intrigued by Jackson. He has a very nice arm and is a good passer, unlike Tyrod, whatever other posters might say. I would like to see him become less dependent on running. He does way too much of it, and I think that could create a lot of risk of injury at the next level. I would also like to see him put on about 20 lbs of muscle. I wouldn't have any problem at all if he ended up as a Bill.

I guess ESPN is not a fan of the " process "
TigerJ replied to Iron Maiden's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To be honest. I don't see how anyone could do a legit over/under at this point. We haven't reached the offseason yet. There has been no opportunity for teams to do anything in free agency. Teams are still working on developing their draft board. If Barnwell, or somebody else wants to do an over under projection in May, I might be inclined to pay a little more attention. -
Friendly Reminder For Mock Drafters In Regards To Denver
TigerJ replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chad Kelly has an NFL arm and has done some good things on the football field, but I can't imagine that he did enough while recovering from injury to convince John Elway that he is a sure thing. Whenever they can, and especially at the QB spot, GMs want to hedge their bets, and are loathe to put all their eggs in one basket when what they have is not a known commodity, because it could mean their jobs. Even if Elway thinks that Chad Kelly might have what it takes to be a successful starter, he will try to bring in somebody else who stands a decent chance of being able to start. That means either a free agent or a reasonably high draft pick. -
Everyone Talks Trade Up For QB, But What If....
TigerJ replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think if Buffalo covets Roquon Smith that much, they would probably get in position to draft him with a first and second round pick packaged together. I think Two firsts is overkill. Personally, I wouldn't do it. If I had to have a linebacker in the first round and Smith didn't drop, I might draft Rashaan Evans. -
All three of Minnesota's QBs (Bradford, Bridgewater and Keenum) are scheduled to become free agents as of March 14 (I think). Minnesota will certainly try to extend one or two of the three before free agency begins, and let at least one go. The QBs have to agree to this, of course, but the speculation is that Bradford is the most likely to be let go. Case Keenum is probably the QB the Vikings will try the hardest to extend, so it is an unknown at this time whether Bridgewater will be available or not.
