  1. I would have no problem with Chan Gailey as and OC. Greg Roman did some nice things with the run game as an OC but failed as a passing offense strategist. But then his QB was Tyrod Taylor. Nate Hackett had some nice ideas but needed a bit more seasoning as his relative success with Jacksonville demonstrates. Alabama doesn't really show much of anything about Brian Daboll's abilities as an OC. Everybody on Nick Saban's staff does what Nick Saban tells him to do. Daboll would have started the QB who won the national championship for the Crimson Tide much earlier in the season, but Nick Saban said no. I'll wait and see what Daboll does before i write him off.
  2. I'm not locked in to a particular QB. The top rated ones are not perfect and some in the second and third tier have intriguing qualities making you think they could develop. So, I'll let McBeane sort it all out.
  3. Those Achilles injuries can be killers for DBs. He may never recover his pre-injury speed and cutting ability. The Bills can do their due diligence, but the midical vetting needs to be especially thorough.
  4. I hope they have insurance policies, and not just health insurance. I can see where those expected to be drafted high would be very likely to get insurance, but it wouldn't shock me to learn that a lot of day three picks and their agents overlook that risk in the pre-draft process.
  5. I will not tell you that this or that player isn't going to fall. The truth is, nobody knows. There are always players who fall that nobody expects. I would be surprised if Barkley lasts until 6, and there is probably a pretty good chance somebody trades up for Baker Mayfield if he's still on the board after pick 4, but it's not impossible. I think most prognosticators would project Chark later unless the ghost of Al Davis rises and haunts his son into picking him because he's big and fast. I do think a lot of Bills fans would be delighted if Chark fell into the Bills' lap a bit later in the draft.
  6. I think six in the first round is more likely than not.
  7. Even if the Bills want to trade up, there is no guarantee the circumstances will be right for them to do so on their terms. If three QBs are drafted in the top 3 picks of the draft, and Buffalo is not one of them, there is no guarantee Cleveland will be willing to trade out of the fourth spot, and then there is no guarantee that Denver won't draft a QB in the fifth spot of the draft. Buffalo has to be prepared to pick in the 12th spot or even trade down. Draft preparation includes attempting to be prepared for every possible contingency.
  8. Every team struggled with kickoffs. The rule change the league made a couple years ago made it tougher to have a great kickoff return. If a returner tried to return a kick that reached the end zone, the odds of having a successful return (getting the ball past the 25 yard line were very slim. If I were a special teams coordinator, I would tell my returner, "If you're catching it in the end zone, down it there."
  9. No interest. I don't think he's better than either one of the two QBs Buffalo has on the roster right now, and Buffalo is going to draft a third. If the Browns cut him and he wants to sign for vet minimum to compete in camp, I'd be fine with that, but I doubt that's what he's looking for.
  10. There are two QBs in this draft that I think have a pretty high probability of starting in their rookie season, depending on where they end up: Baker Mayfield and Josh Rosen. If the Bills draft any other QB and put him in the starting role, I would be pretty worried about the season. Trading up and giving up a bunch of picks to get that QB is another issue. I suppose, I would have to trust the long term plan, and the hope that the Bills are eventually going to have a long term starter because they did so. It might make me a little nervous, but not upset if he wasn't ready to start.
  11. We could trade with ourselves from 12 down to 22 and pick up an extra second round pick? Cool!
  12. Because in some ways Beane considers him an upgrade over Davis.
  13. Even when the top team in the draft pretty much knows who they are going to pick, they often don't make it official. That means nobody else behind them can make any too firm plans. For that reason, I think if there is any first round trade involving the Bills trying to get up in the top 10, it's not happening until the first night of the draft. There's just too much uncertainty. They will have spoken to probably half a dozen teams and perhaps have a verbal agreement on the possible terms of a trade with maybe two or three teams, but will not pull the trigger unless the draft falls in a certain way.
  14. There may be one, or a very few QBs in this draft outside the top 4 who develop into elite, franchise type guys. It is also highly likely that more than one of the top four busts. In the entire draft, it's likely that only a handful of QBs develop into solid starters who have long careers.
  15. I was going to say that the 23rd and 31st overall picks aren't going to move NE anywhere near high enough to nab one of the top QBs. They would have to really mortgage they future to get that high, and I'm not sure that even then the Giants would be happy moving all the way down to the bottom third of the first round. I bet the Giants would want 3,000 points or more.
  16. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
  17. Benrus probably intended to pay. They just lost track of time.
  18. The only thing I haven't seen before is the last bit about discussions between the Bills and Bucs. The fact that another guy is reporting this rumor either means he's passing around old stuff, or it is coming from multiple sources, which makes it more likely. In other words, more smoke means a greater likelihood of a fire.
  19. If the rumor is true, I think the Browns take him at #1, because they don't want to take the risk of the Giants or Jets picking him. Yes, the rumors also say the Giants like Darnold and the Jets like Rosen, but I don't think the Browns know that for certain. I don't think the Browns are inclined to trade out of #4 because they can theoretically get the best player in the draft at #4 if the top QBs go 1,2,3, whether you think the best player in the draft is Barkley, Chubb or Nelson. After that, it gets tougher to predict (not to say the first four picks are certain by any means). Denver could go Mayfield, but it makes more sense to me that they get the top guard (Nelson) to protect Keenum. If Indy stays at #6, I think they'll be happy to take Chubb. Tampa has plenty of needs, including where the highest rated remaining players are ranked. I think maybe they go with Minkah Fitzpatrick here. I would slot Denzel Ward to Chicago. Tremaine Edmunds to the 49ers. Vita Vea to the Raiders. Roquon Smith to the Dolphins. That would make Mayfield available to the Bills at 12.
  20. I recently replaced my debit card with one sporting the standing buffalo. Does that count? LOL No, I don't do the tattoo thing.
  21. The financial factor will be little affected by what he says about Allen. It will be affected by what Josh Allen does when he gets on the field in the NFL. His next crop of potential prospect customers will be watching this fall to see what Allen does.
  22. What it says is that Allen is a high risk player. The reasons for that, I think are the same ones we all know about: the college program from which he came is not a major football power, thus he did not play against major competition, and there are accuracy issues that may or may not be correctable with better footwork. I think the Browns are going to pick him at the top of the draft, so Bills fans may not have to worry about the bust risk, but if he drops to the Bills and the Bills pick him, I'm not going to mimic Chicken Little.
  23. Taylor is an upgrade over what the Browns had, and if he wins even just a handful of games, it'll be a great improvement over what fans have had to endure for several years. However, the Browns management has probably figured out that fans will get tired of mediocrity before long. They will draft a QB in the first round.
  24. I should cut some kitty willows out back.
