Project QB's who DID reach potential
TigerJ replied to Zerovoltz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, it is believed by some at least that John Elway is still high on Paxton Lynch. Case Keenum was signed because they realize he's still not ready, but they apparently still believe he could still develop. Sorry, no link. It was a tidbit in a mock draft I read recently, but I can't recall which one. Take it for what it's worth. -
It's been fun, but I think it might be time to cap this thread.
-
Yeah, that rumor has been circulated.

Shaquem Griffin - Linebacker UCF

Late round pick, but sign me up. -
All things being equal, early is probably better than very late.
-
Kerley is a slot receiver type. He's pretty small and lacks speed. He's not going to win may foot races on deep routes, but he's very quick and can get separation underneath.
-
That's funny. Another thread says it's Allen to the Browns and Mayfield to the Jets. LOL

He was certainly impressive for Alabama in the National Championship game, but it's too small a sample on which to base a team's future plans. That strategy is further complicated by the fact that if Tua is that good, he will without question be the first overall pick in whatever draft he participates in (2020?). You will have to do a complete tank job to be assured of getting him because teams in the top spot in the draft are almost always looking for a franchise QB. If you're not that team, the team with the top spot is not going to trade it to you at any price if they need a QB. Moreover, Tua Tagovailoa is a freshman this year, isn't he? Whatever his graduating class, you don't know if he will choose to come out the year before or wait and finish up his college eligibility like Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph have done. If you decide to tank for a specific player, you have to do it in his junior (or redshirt sophomore) year, and if he choses not to enter the draft, do it all again the following year. Maybe the OP is OK with that, but I suspect the larger portion of the fan base will be ready to tar and feather everybody in the whole organization from Terry Pegula on down to the ticket takers. I suspect the team is not willing to go there.

College: Miller - LG, Lawson - RDE
TigerJ replied to Ittakestime's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is certainly a chance Miller gets a shot at left guard if Incognito stays retired, but Jerry Hughes has much more explosion off the snap, a trait that is highly desired for a RDE. My guess is that Trent Murphy will be favored to start at LDE this year and Lawson will be a rotational guy. He may get a shot at RDE in that role. -

Bills Draft Day QB Worst Case Scenario
TigerJ replied to Zerovoltz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Without being quite so specific, a trade down from 22 might be a good option..get the best QB still on the board in the first half of the second round, and maybe draft another QB late. That's assuming the top six QBs are gone by the middle of the first round. -
Prediction: A Dark Horse Candidate To Start at RT
TigerJ replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Besides, he's the coach's long lost cousin. Or not. Checking his draft profile, he has good size and athleticism. The observation last year was that he needed to increase his core and lower body strength, become more of a knee bender and be more violent in his hand usage. All of those things would seem to be traits that he can work to improve with time, hard work and good coaching. So, maybe the OP is on to something. -
Welcome, Dick Drew. In part, I agree with your initial post. The sample size for both McCarron and Peterman in the NFL is not big enough to make an evaluation of their ceiling. We do, however, have an idea about their physical traits, and we know they are somewhat limited. They have OK, not great arms. All six QBs who are rated from high R1 to borderline 1st and 2nd round all have better arms and seem to have at least one trait that is elite. Most observers believe that the Bills worked to acquire draft capital specifically so they could trade up for a QB they believe can be a franchise guy. There are a precious few who really think that McCarron and Peterman have franchise level upside. To a point, however, I'm with you. I would be very concerned about using too much of that draft capital to move all the way up to #2. It might even require using a pick or two from next year's draft, and high ones at that. Ouch! If Cleveland is on the clock for their 4th overall pick, they already have drafted their QB, the guy the Buffalo really covets is still on the board, and there is legitimate concern that somebody else is going to trade for him, or Miami wants him at 11. I think the Bills would be perfectly justified in trading up to get him. It would probably cost #12, #22, and something else, but it would leave you with enough to keep building the team.

Richie Incognito Un-retires via Twitter?
TigerJ replied to loyal2dagame's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Naturally when something bizarre like this happens, there will be a gazillion theories on what is behind it. I am not buying into any particular theory, but I thought I'd advance one more. In his conversation with Vic Carucci, Incognito maintained that his retirement was medically motivated. His doctor told him that his high protein, high carb diet was causing his liver and kidney to "shut down." Maybe Buffalo team doctors approached him and suggested that his diet might be adjusted in a way that would allow him to keep playing without putting his kidney and liver at risk. In spite of being ticked off about his contract, he still loves football and wants to give it another crack. As I said, I'm not buying into any particular theory, this one included. I just put it out there to give y'all something to think about. -

I think. Therefore I am!

ASU RB Kallen Ballage to visit Bills
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully, the comparison is limited to his on field characteristics. I do like the idea of having a big back who can run away from DBs. Saquon Barkley is another big back who does that, but Buffalo is not going to get a sniff of him. -

Yeah, The Instigators is kind of the amateur hour of radio broadcasting. Unfortunately, it runs two hours. -
What Exactly is the EDGE Position in the NFL?
TigerJ replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He would be listed on the team roster as a DE in a 4-3 defense and a LB in a 3-4 defense, and the strongest part of his skill set is rushing the passer. -
When it comes to games in Buffalo and Green Bay, the big question is always. "When?" We'll have to wait a while for the answer to that one. I just hope it's not the last game of the year and Green Bay has a cold snap.

To answer evanmachlan's question, he knows his playing career is over even though he would have liked to play longer. I think it is great to give him a chance to retire as a Bill. No, he was not one of the all time great running backs in the league, but he was surprisingly good considering where he went to college. He was a great blocker, and though not blessed with elite speed, had amazing vision.

Miami DT RJ McIntosh scheduled for pre-draft visit

For the record, Adolphus Washington is still on the team. I imagine he'll have a good number of reps in rotation. -
I know! The Bills can draft Allen. . .Kyle Allen. What, you never heard of him? His name has popped up on TV lately. He was a 5 star recruit coming out of high school. He went to Texas A&M. Unfortunately he had a problem with interceptions and got replaced as a starter early on in his college career. He transferred to Houston. After, sitting out a year, he began the following year as a starter, and promptly got benched for throwing interceptions. Why is he popping up lately as a deep sleeper? He's smart, has good measurables (6'3") with an NFL arm. He was a great QB in high school, and apart from the interceptions did a lot of great things on the field. The question is, has he learned from his unfortunate college experience. His going to come and be pretty raw. If, however, he's figured out what he was doing wrong, he might be as talented as another Allen we hear about. I'm not recommending Buffalo take him, especially not ans the guy they would be counting on to develop into the next Jim Kelly, but if you don't trade up, and you have to settle for a Lamar Jackson or Mason Rudolph, it might be a good idea to add someone like him as competition. He might just surprise people.
