Anybody else have faith in AJ Mccarron?
TigerJ replied to Rebel101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm optimistic, but then that is my nature. -
One thing is for sure...Beane and McD are NOT conservative
TigerJ replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely, but most would agree that there were degrees of risk with each of the 4, and that Allen carries the highest degree of risk. I'm also of the opinion that he has the highest upside because of his physical traits. That's why it was a swing for the fences. I'll tell you in a few years if it's a risk Beane should have taken. LOL -
Obviously, he's a good athlete with nice measurables. Just as obviously, he had a miserable college career. Presumably some of that was injury related. Some was opportunity related. There was also an extent to which he just failed to play well enough in practice to earn playing time. The Brian Daboll connection probably means something. I can't imagine Daboll not having some input on whether or not he felt Foster would be a good signing. I'm assuming he thought Foster would be. I also suspect there was probably some conversation between Foster and Daboll, with Foster feeling out what kind of chance Daboll thought he might have of sticking in Buffalo. I'm not expecting miracles, but I think Buffalo could have done worse.

I think Phillips will get plenty of playing time in rotation, but I don't think he starts over either Lotulelei or Williams. Let him learn a few things from Kyle Williams. Teller has a chance to start Edmunds certainly will.

Bills UDFA signings & Rookie minicamp invitees

Up to the roster limit of 90. Count the number of players currently on the roster including draftees and subtract that number from 90. -
Forgive my ignorance but why is Edmunds nose so big?

He's the reincarnation of Jimmy Durante. Ha cha cha cha cha! -
RD 4, Pick 121: Taron Johnson DB - Weber State
TigerJ replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Runs a 4.5 40. Small college player, but good toughness. Mike Mayock questions his ability to track the ball in the air, but otherwise thinks he has a good skill set. -
That's the attitude, transplan! I think.

WGR Hosts Scared Of On-Air Confrontation
TigerJ replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The chart is out of date, but regardless, in some circumstances, particularly at the top of the draft, when you're trying to acquire a franchise QB and everybody knows you're trying to acquire a franchise QB, along with another team or mor trying to acquire a franchise QB, overspending is pretty much inevitable. Moreover, it is generally considered to be inevitable. So, is it really overspending? -
"The statue" versus the second most athletic QB of the top 6 in the 2018. Yeah, just a touch.

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - "Sling It and Bring It"
TigerJ replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Taylor was not McDermott’s guy to run the offense, and Preston Brown simply didn’t have the speed to be McDermott’s guy to spearhead the defense. McDermott wanted and needed someone to sling it and someone to bring it." I don't know about being McDermott's guy or not, but Taylor's ceiling certainly was obvious, and was always going to leave the fans and Bills management wanting more. I fully agree on Preston Brown. To make McDermott's defense hum, he's got to have a middle linebacker with freakish athleticism. Edmunds isn't quite as fast as Kuechley, but he's a lot bigger and has many outstanding qualities. It looks like McBeane got their guys, as long as Allen pans out as hoped. -
My point was the similarities are superficial, and not to get sucked in by them.

I think they raised cotton on the Alle farm.

Introducing Myself, and some Allen thoughts
TigerJ replied to YouGotBuffaloed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I didn't have a horse in the QB race. They all ade me a bit nervous, each for his own particular reasons, but I agree with your post. Josh Allen is McBeane's choice as QB of the future. If he works out as planned, the sky is the limit, so I'm going to hope for the best. -
RD 1, Pick 16: Tremaine Edmunds OLB - Virginia Tech
TigerJ replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry if someone has posted the same thing earlier. I'm excited to see the flexibility that Edmunds gives the Bills on defense. Edmunds should be comfortable inside or outside, and excell wherever he is. Milano is smaller and not the same athlete as Edmunds, BUT he can run and can play inside or outside. Not sure who the third LB will be. It may depend on the situation, and of course a significant percentage of the time the Bills will be in nickel. Neither Edmunds nor Milano should be a liability at pass coverage. Put that all together, and McDermott can switch these guys around to get the best matchups in every situation. Edmunds, in particular has the size and speed to cover any tight end in the league and not be a liability, even Gronk. -
He could. I'm not sure he will. I think it's likely before the end of the season. I wouldn't be sure that Darnold won't start by the end of the year. It's not that McCown did't play well last season or won't this year, but he is 39 years old. The odds aren't great that 39 year old QBs not named Tome Brady can get through a season without injury.

My apologies for yet another thread on Josh Allen, but I didn't know how to introduce this thought line into an existing thread without derailing it. Yeah, I get that the failure of EJ Manuel probably affects the thinking of at least some fans about Josh Allen. In somoe respects they are very similar. Both are big dudes. Both have the vaunted huge hands. Both are fairly athletic. Josh Allen has the bigger arm, but EJ Manuel was no slouch in his arm strength. Both had some deficiencies in their college game. That's about where the similarities end. The deficiencies are quite different. Both needed to work on processing quickly, but Manuel was governed by tentativeness. Like Tyrod, he wouldn't upll the trigger until he could see his receiver was open. That's OK on some pace plays, but on many plass plays if you wait that long, the ball is going to be late. Josh Allen is not afraid to fling the ball around, yet he is not a great reader of defenses, and probably needs to be more discriminating in the throws he makes. Though he didn't start at Florida State for four years, Manuel did have a good amount of time in that program. Allen went to community college and Wyoming. There was more of a likelihood that Manuel's deficiencies were deeply ingrained and he wasn't going to change.. We don't know if Allen can change or not, but his general lack of experience gives us at least some reason to think he can learn given more time and good coaching.

There may be a difference between slow eyes that occur because the QB played 7 on 7 in high school and at a community college for two years of his college experience and a prospect who just can't process that quickly and never will. The problem is you can't be sure it's one and not the other. We can hope, however.

Chark will probably be gone, as others have already suggested. If he's still on the boards, there are a lot of selling points for him.

Is there a precedent for developing a low-percentage QB?

I think you're underrating McCarron's arm. No, he's not Brett Favre, but he's got quite a bit more than Pennington, the quintissential "noodle arm." I expect McCarron will start, but would not rule out Peterman. Allen is the last QB I would expect to start, unless it it is some yet to be signed "camp arm."

What I Don't Understand About Fan Reaction to Allen
TigerJ replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm guessing that after having endured mediocrity from the Bills for so long there are fans who fear the possibility of that mediocrity continuing. They're tired of it. Allen is obviously a high risk pick because of his relative lack of experience, obvious flaws in his game, and (scariest to Bills fans) his fairly low completion percentage and turnovers). I'm wary of the pick, but my philosophy is always to give the team the benefit of the doubt. Allen has extremely high upside as well as a low floor. He's now a Bill, so why not hope for the best.
