  1. I happened to watch the segment. I didn't think it was necessarily uncomplimentary. I think it was Mariucci who said he thought McDermott was doing a great job. Regarding the QB position, Mariucci was merely making the point that it's tougher when you have training camp without a clear starter because you have to figure out how to distribute the limited number of reps (in team drills). When you have three competing, it's even tougher. I can't disagree with that. However, if you havent had a true long term starter (Tyrod was a stopgap) in a couple decades, and you can't luck out and get one in free agency, you've got to do something to try and identify a quality starter and then develop him. There's no place outside of training camp to do that.
  2. Peterman said something quite similar in an interview. His quote was, "I'm not here to compete against the other guys, I'm here to compete against myself. It doesn't mean that they are being fatalistic about their role on the team. It means they can only control their own performance on the field. Their job is to try and get better: learn the offense as well as they can, hone their skill set as much as possible, and cut down on mistakes. Let the coaching staff figure out who is outplaying whom.
  3. I thought it was the black kitten that was showboating a little. It's true the older cat didn't keep the kittlen wrapped up all the way to the floor, but I thought in the end it was a pretty thorough tackling job. It sure did the trick. I had a wonderful male cat once. We took in an abandoned kitten with the intention of finding a home for it. One morning we woke up to find our cat had taken a bite out of the kitten's ear. We had to accelerate the adoption process. Even loving pet cats will play dirty with a threat to their psoition in the home.
  4. Physically, he's out of shape compared with Sean McDermott and he's got a beard, but there are a lot of facial similarities between Daboll and McDermott. I just thought that was interesting. I agree, you can see the Belichick/Nick Saban influence on him, both in language and philosophy. Even though Belichick and Saban are not my favorite persons, that influence is not a bad thing.
  5. Probably was humor. There are lots of RBs on the training camp roster. Shady is clearly at the top of the heap (not to mention the most talented proven player on the offense), and will start if he cannavigate successfully through the troubled waters stirred up by the story with his ex-girlfriend. Chris Ivory was signed to be his primary backup. The Bills will carry one or (most likely) two additional. To have a chance, Murphy is really going to have to open some eyes. To suggest he's a long shot may be an understatement. If he can prove to be a valuable special teamer, it will help his cause competing against the likes of Taiwan Jones. At this point, it looks like Trent Murphy has the inside track at starting opposite Jerry Hughes, and Shaq Lawson is the one who is going to struggle at holding on to a roster spot. John Murphy is the play by play man on the radio broadcasts of Bills games. Sticking his name in my post with the other Murphys was my poor attempt at humor. John is more overweight than I am, and is the last person you'll ever see running back punts LOL.
  6. Marcus, not Trent (or John). Marcus is a 5'9" 195 lb RB.
  7. John Hughes (the football player) has some physical ability, but his production has never been too impressive. If this is an upgrade from Palepoi, it looks like a minor one to me.
  8. Yeah, BuffaloRumblings is always a good site for catching training camp tweets. I don't know if they get them all, but they get a lot of them.
  9. I think Stanford came from a small school. Often, when that happens, it takes the player more time to develop. Because they enter the league deeper on the depth chart, they often have to wait a while for the opportunity to show what they can do. Sometimes you have a gem and you don't know it. Sometimes you just have an athletic kid who's never going to amount to anything. Hopefully, Buffalo will find they have the former.
  10. I expect the defense to be excellent this year, but a few questions will need to be answered for it to happen. They include, but are not limited to: Can Trent Murphy come back fromo injury and be as effective as before his injury, without the benefit of PEDs? Will Vontae Davis be able to effectively make the switch from being a primarily man cover CB to primarily a zone cover CB? Being only a 20 year old, can Tremaine Edmunds be relied upon to make defensive calls in addition to handlling his own responsibilities without a lot of rookie errors? Can Jerry Hughes get to the QB more with stronger play on the interior? Can the Bills get stronger play on the interior with Meatball being another year older?
  11. Better a dry heat than a dry cold.
  12. Certainly a good possibility. I can't imagine Crick not being an upgrade over Palepoi.
  13. Raise the temperature there in January by 30 degrees and I might consider it. Yes, I know New York is cold too, but I'm already here. If I move, it's not going to be somewhere colder LOL.
  14. I can't use it at all. When I click on the app, I get a blurb of sound for a fraction of a second, and then nothing - every time. I've tried it about 10 times so far over a period of a few weeks. It's completely useless for me. I can't even get ads.
  15. I don't like the period between minicamp and training camp at all. We're still in it except for the teams that got to start early because of the HOF game. Aside from a few signings (including those high draft picks), the only news is likely to be bad news: a player has a traumatic injury from skate boarding or water skiing, or gets accused of domestic violence. It's true that there are going to be a lot more injuries in training camp (fortunately, most will be minor dings) but there will be lots of news that isn't bad to counterbalance the bad stuff.
  16. I wonder where they would have ranked Case Keenum before last season.
  17. Four years with a fifth year option is standard for a first round pick. It's written into the CBA.
  18. And when he gets married, his wife will be hotter too!
  19. Obviously, he can do both. On the college level, he can do both at a very high level. Whether or not that translates to the NFL is the question. HPs skill set includes unusual strength and advanced hand usage due to his wrestling background. It's said that he's not particularly explosive at the snap. That explosiveness at the snap is Kyle Williams' trademark. It's the main difference between Phillips and Williams. I'm sure Phillips can play 3 technique. The question is whether or not that will be Buffalo's preference going forward.
  20. Most of the evaluations of Harrison Phillips have suggested his skill set is better suited to one technique rather than three technique despite being a bit undersized for that spot. Kyle Williams will be playing 3 tech this season, and that is his strong suit (penetrating and being disruptive rather than tying up blockers). When Kyle Williams retires, there may be a hole at 3 tech while Buffalo is two deep at one tech. Observers could be wrong about Harrison Phillips, but if they're right, Buffalo could still be in the market for a great DT next off-season.
  21. Free agency looks like more fertile ground than the draft when it comes to finding a good offensive tackle. Now defensive tackle - it's draft all the way.
  22. "Offsetting" language only comes into play if another team signs him after he gets cut. Without "offsetting" language in the contract, he's still going to have guaranteed money. He just won't get the chance to be paid by two teams at the same time.
  23. He was interviewed on One Bills Live today, and said as much. My money is on Milano to win that competition, but Robinson would be good depth.
  24. I think the top three needs post season will probably be DT, OL and WR. Free agency will determine which of those will be the top priority in the draft. If it is DT and Buffalo drafts early, some of the possibilities include Ed Oliver, Raekwon Davis and Derrick Brown. Oliver has Aaron Donald like quickness with better size. Davis has great length and strength. Derrick Brown is in between - has some of both, but carries more weight than either of the other two. If they draft a little later in the first round, there are a couple Clemson products that could interest them: Dexter Lawrence, who is both huge and athletic and Christian Wilkins, who would have been a first rounder this year had he declared. 2019 should be a terrific draft for top end DTs. If it is OL and the Bills draft early, the pick is probably Trey Adams - OT out of Washington. He would have been a first rounder in 2018, but blew out his ACL. He decided to go back to school and play his senior season. If the Bills are drafting later, they might think about Eigton Jenkins out of Mississippi State in the interior. He should be able to play either center or guard. Oth lonemen could emerge, but there aren't as many bonified stars on the offensive line as there are defensive tackles. If it is WR, the picture is fairly muddy. There are receivers who could go in the first round, but none are so dominant right now that it's a certainty. AJ Brown out of Ole Mississippi is probably the safest projection in the first round. The University of Buffalo has a receiver - Anthony Johnson - who could be in the first round conversation. If I am Brandon Beane and I'm planning out my draft strategy, at this point, I'm seriously looking at filling my needs on the offensive line and wide receiver position in free agency, and using the draft for defensive tackle. However, if Buffalo really wants to shake things up, he could draft a 6'5" player who carries 230 + lbs. very well and goes by the name of Josh Allen. He's a linebacker out of Kentucky and can play inside or outside.
  25. I am a multiple of 22.
