Lets give some credit to THE O LINE
TigerJ replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that the offensive line is one place where chemistry is almost more important than talent. Yeah, you've got to have guys that can play, particularly at center and left tackle, but it's even more important to have guys that know what to expect of each other and can work closely with each other to make the whole blocking scheme work. Yeah, receivers have to have chemistry with their QB, but on every single play, you've got to have five guys functioning as a single unit. That's why quality offensive line coaching is critical. There is enough talent among the first 10 guys to make it work. It is to Castillo's credit that it actually is working. -
Personally, I'm not disappointed that Peterman and McCarron played well. Everybody knows Josh Allen is the future of the franchise, assuming he doesn't turn out to be a complete flop. I honestly think there are things he can learn while remaining in a back up role. I have no problem being patient for a while. Whether Allen's starting role begins after 4 games or 10 games, or not until 2019 the QB situation for the Bills bodes well both for immediate and long term success. I'm much happier with a Bills team that has multiple competent QBs than I have been in the past where they've struggled to get one competent guy on the field.

Are we now a pass first offense?
TigerJ replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Buffalo had/has three QBs that we need to assess with the purpose of finding a starter. They have mostly veteran runing backs, and the first string guy was being rested. I do think Daboll is pretty creative, and I do think the goal for the Bills is to pass the ball quite a bit more than last year, but there really wasn't a whole lot of point to running it a lot in this game. -
This is pretty much my opinion too. I don't know that I need to see him with the firsts. I would like to see him with better line play in front of him. I did see some things I lliked. He threw some short passes on target with touch. He doesn't always feel the need to fire the ball as if out of a canon. He also showed his ability to sling it while off balance, but we knew he could do that. He didn't seem to panic despite being under a lot of pressure. But, he was far from perfect.

One major goal for a team is coming out of preseason without losing key players to major injuries. Buffalo's had some nuisance injuries, but nothing devastating as other teams have had. I think they came out of the Carolina game without a scratch, I think.
-
I think it's fair to say he didn't look great today. Those who point out his youth are also correct. It's not shocking to see him play a bit tentatively in his first action against another team. If he's playing that way in a couple weeks, I'll be a little more nervous about it. In the mean time, I'm guessing the coaches will be on him about this.
-
I'm thrilled with the performance, but it is what it is: a preseason performance against a relatively bland defense. Peterman doesn't determine the kind of defense Carolina decides to throw at him, and he did a fine job given the circumstances, but I don't think anyone would claim that it proves what he's going to do against a good defense in the regular season that has game planned against Peterman's skill set and Buffalo's tendencies.

Position battles to watch in preseason game 1 vs Carolina
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To any Bills fan who thinks about it, almost every matchup Sal mentions is a no brainer, or close to it. I can see someone thinking Chris Ivory is not a lock for #2 RB, tho I take Sal's side on that one too. I'm not criticizing Sal for stating the obvious. His job is to cover any aspect of the Bills that he can whether obvious or not. -
Others have said it far more creatively than I could, but I was struck by the irony of a man whose last coaching gig was with his brother, Rex, acting like an "expert" on the topic of team chemistry.

Jamal Adams doubles down on his challenge to Josh Allen
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Highly drafted safety of the Jets and a former LSU teammate of Tredavious White. Buffalo got the smarter of the two DBs. -
The only deal that Beane could have made for Coleman with better terms for the Bills would have been a straight player trade: Coleman for Quan Bray.

Bills injury updates - Training Camp/Preseason
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even players like Aaron Green, who are no longer on the Bills' roster. I agree wholeheartedly. -
No more than two or three at a time though.

Interesting Astro Tweet re: Beane
TigerJ replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Th slew of wavers at the end of preseason are a given, but I'm assuming Astro is tweeting about acquisitions he thinks the Bills could make, or possibly trading players for some future draft picks, though that seems less likely. -
Bills trade with Browns for Corey Coleman
TigerJ replied to 17islongenough's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Coleman is instantly the fastest receiver on the Bills' roster. His scouting report says he has unreal acceleration off the LOS. His career has been thus far derailed by twice breaking the same hand. Cleveland is very deep at WR, so they could afford to unload Coleman. Bray (the guy who got cut to make room for Coleman) was never going to make this team. It is a nice trade and gives this receiving group a nice upgrade. -
My dog is a Schnoodle we name Mr. Noodles. Somewhere, Josh Allen must have a cousin named Alan. If not, the Bills could always draft a certain linebacker out of Kentucky named Josh Allen. That would be fun.

Is Zay Jones A “Lock” To Make The Roster
TigerJ replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd say he's about 90% to make the roster. The 10% is if the coaching staff learns something about him that convinces them he's always going to have some issues that they don't want to have to deal with. I have no idea what those would be. -
An undersized, but physical CB who generally tackled well but lacks the athleticism to ever be a great one. If you need a guy to fill a specific role, he might be the guy, but you'll be looking to upgrade at some point.

Can we afford to carry 3 active QB’s all season?
TigerJ replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you just carry two QBs on the 53 man roster, you have to have a QB on the PS just so you have a person you can have on the active roster inside a week's notice who knows your playbood and offense. I believe Peterman has PS eligibility. -
That's about where I'm at. I was never on the Jackson bandwagon, but I'm not going to label him a bust for a while either.

Can we afford to carry 3 active QB’s all season?
TigerJ replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think it's crucial to just have 2. You know the Bills will keep Allen. Whoever wins the QB competition, no player has been so obviously superior to the others, and in particular I don't think there is that much difference between the second and third. At this point, assuming Buffalo goes with AJ McCarron to start (he may be leading the competition if you believe the change in rotation is an indicator) Allen would be OK as your backup. I'm not against keeping a third QB, but I don't think keeping just two is a recipe for disaster. -
McCaron gets first team reps 2 days in a row.
TigerJ replied to sunshynman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think there is a point in development beyond which you have to play on Sundays to get better, but I think for a young raw player whose college gave him far less preparation than many QBs have coming out of college, there is a fair amount of learning and development that can take place in a practice setting. If you disagree, you're welcome to your opinion. I'm comfortable with agreeing to disagree.
