  1. I was going by memory, and memory can be faulty. Googling the subject pretty much only shows the assessment you've already quoted. So, with my apologies, I withdraw my assertion about his college scouting reports.
  2. Interestingly, arm strength was a knock on Drew Brees when he came out of college. I think he's worked on it, which can be done, and which Nate has done this past offseason. So, yeah, that is somewhat of a similarity.
  3. Could sign him, have him gain 20 lbs, and add him to the TE group.
  4. This suggests to me that the Bills agree more or less with Shady's version of the conflict with Delicia Golddigger.
  5. So says Ryan Talbot at https://www.newyorkupstate.com/expo/sports/erry-2018/09/c81eba12f37052/buffalo-bills-2018-practice-sq.html Why do you think the Bills are holding the spot? Will they fill it with a veteran QB?
  6. I'm fine with this. I've heard all the arguments: "He doesn't have enough arm strength. That's why he threw 5 interceptions vs. the Chargers." "He played well in preseason last year too, so his preseason performance this year can't be used to predict success." "Josh Allen needs to start so he can get better." I would argue that there are QBs in the NFL enjoying success with no better arm strength than Peterman. I believe that his interceptions were the result of a combination of factors, primarily historically bad play by the offensive line and Peterman's failure to account for better quickness and anticipation by NFL CBs versus their college counterparts. Peterman is a smart QB. I think he can learn and overcome his mental shortcomings from last year. I know preseason success is not a great predictor of regular season success, but there really are no other predictors that the Bills can use at this point. Relative draft position is no better. (Paxton Lynch just got cut in Denver leaving a former UDFA and low round pick as Denver's roster QBs.) I believe Josh Allen can continue to get better through study and leading the scout team in practice, before he absolutely has to be in the game to improve further. There's no question that Allen is going to be treated as the franchise QB of the future by the Bills, and I'm very hopeful that he is indeed going to be a franchise QB in the future. The Bills don't have to force the future right now.
  7. I was hoping the Bills could add Danny Etling to their PS, but the Patriots already did so. He would not be worth adding to the 53 man roster. Nik Shimonek did some good things in college and made some noise in the pre draft process. I might think about signing him to the PS. Connor Cook is another one I would consider if I were Brandon Beane.
  8. A seasoned veteran is a nice security blanket, but McCarron really didn't provide much of that. I agree a third QB is desirable, but I don't know that you're going to find a veteran at this point who even gives you what McCarron did in terms of quality veteran leadership. I would be a bit surprised if they didn't acquire some insurance, but I think it will come in the form of a practice squad addition, so obviously we're not talking a veteran.
  9. What are we going to to acquire extra picks in the first three rounds?
  10. The interview with the Patriots special teams coordinator is pretty funny for his evasion. Not sure why they wouldn't just cut their punter to keep the kid. Any team that is reasonably well run is going to have film and scouting material on a kid like this going back into college. It's not like they're actually going to be able to keep him a secret if he's that good.
  11. Honestly, there may not be 4 million in player upgrades out there. There's no point in throwing money at garbage. Rich garbage is still garbage.
  12. Regardless of the fact that McCarron has a little more time in the league and a few more starts, Peterman was far more consistent this preseason. I think Peterman is going to be fine as a bridge until Josh Allen is ready.
  13. Of course, we all could have assumed the Patriots would be interested. Hopefully, he'll like the Vikings' offer more.
  14. He would be an excellent choice. I mean, he's a UDFA who couldn't make an NFL roster, so he's certainly not going to come in and light the offense on fire, but he's spent an entire offseason with one of the best teams in the NFL, and they are good in part because of the way the emphasize a lot of the things Sean McDermott emphasizes: doing your job, attention to detail and personal discipline. Secondly, he has learned the terminology of the Erhard-Perkins offensive system. Given that Brian Daboll has spend a significant amount of time with New England under Josh McDaniel and runs the same system, there's going to be a much easier learning curve than if they pick up a castoff QB from a West Coast offense team. Moreover, if Leslie Frasier wants to, he can always pick Ettling's brain on what the evil genius and Josh McDaniel have been doing this summer.
  15. I assume Beane will look for a rookie QB from among other teams' cuts to stick on the PS.
  16. With Foster making the team, I think Coleman is out.
  17. They are keeping Robert Foster. He hasn't been stellar, but I guess he's done enough to warrant staying over Coleman, and Kaelin Clay.
  18. I was thinking the rule was changed last year. You don't have to designate a player to return. Teams are allowed to activate any player who had been IRed. They can only do it once, however. I thought it was the Bills who proposed this rule change to the committee.
  19. If somehow the market for McCarron in a trade is a lot better than I think it is, I'm OK with trading him. Buffalo can go with two QBs on the 53 man roster. They can sign somebody's rookie offcast for the practice squad. Unfortunately, I don't think trading McCarron is going to fetch much of a return. If you'r not going to get a decent draft pick, you might as well hold on to him for emergencies, and try to trade him next March.
  20. Like many, I believe Peterman is the best QB right now. No, he doesn't have a cannon arm, but it's probably stronger than McCarron's, and strong enough so that it is not a handicap on almost all of the throws he would ever be asked to make. When QBs suffer pick sixes on those out routes (like McCarron did Thursday evening), I don't think arm strength is as much of an issue as the need to accurately judge the position of the cornerback who might try to jump the route. You also don't want to telegraph your throw. Everybody knows Josh Allen is going to be the man at some point, but there is no good reason tostart him versus the Ravens. He's going to develop just fine without starting games at the very start of his rookie season, and I'm certain Peterman geves them a better chance of winning.
  21. The Bills were sending a message to McCarron. "You are not our starting QB." Then McCarron sent a message to the Bills in the playing of the game. "You're right not to start me."
  22. I get the frustration, and there were a lot of things to dislike this evening, but there is no correlation between team performance in preseason and regular season success.
  23. He's sticking with the process.
  24. I think that was a good landing spot for Teddy, and a smart play by the Saints. They look like they are committed to a balanced attack, and Teddy is ideal for that. I definitely don't think the Saints look at it as a one year rental. They are thinking post Drew
