  1. You may have missed the part where I said "Oops, I take all that back."
  2. I think Vontae Davis retiring is a Vontae Davis issue, not a team issue.
  3. This is what's out there: Delvin Breaux - great in 2015, but has struggled with injuries since then Bashaud Breeland - his middle name is "inconsistency" David Amerson - play went into the toilet after a big money deal Jeremy Lane - promising career went south after injuries started (gleaned from http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2018CB.php ) There are a few more, but this appears to be the cream of a well soured crop. Do you have any preferences from among these, or another name you like?
  4. Hmm. I wonder what this means for Frazier. Obviously, the defense was a whole lot better in the second half. I think it is a given that McDermott is more aggressive calling the defensive plays than Frazier. WillFrazier want to continue in the role of DC? Will McDermott want him to? If he does, will McDermott have Frazier call some games?
  5. Davis is a different sort of charcter for sure. It may be that he's still feeling the effects of his injury. I would guess most players woulld rather err on the side of playing too soo after or too much after an injury, but apparently Davis is not one of those. I'm guessing that his attitude will insure that he is more of a bandaid fix than a long term solution to having an outside corner to pair with White. That said, the Bills may be able to get a good productive season out of him here in 2018. If they can do that, then they can try and figure out a long term answer in the offseason. Oops. After reading his twitter statement, I have to take that all back. The Bills are going to have to look,. I guess, to find someone who can play. Hopefully gaines can get and stay healthy, and Taron Johnson too, but they're going to need one more guy they can rely on. Maybe they can re-sign that guy from the Patriots.
  6. Well, it's pretty obvious the Bills are going to lose this game and the game next week. It still looks to me as if Josh Allen has what it takes to develop into a solid starter in the NFL, with a shot at greatness, but he's not there yet. I also think Tremaine Edmunds is going to be a good one at middle linebacker, but good offenses and smart QBs are going to fake him out and get him to bite on misdirection plays for a while. The bottom line is if one wants to be a Bills fan, there is still some pain to be endured. My questions are related to the offensive line. Personnel wise, the talent level has slipped. Richie Incognito may be a loony tune, but the man could play offensive guard. Vlad Ducasse, not so much. Eric Wood may have been maligned by Bills fans, but he was pretty good. The Bills are also dealing with a lack of chemistry on the line because of all the switching that was done in the preseason. The talent level is not going to change, but there is at least a chance that the chemistry will build some, and the line won't be quite ast putrid in a few weeks. Then of course there is the schedule, which was stacked against the Bills at least in the first few weeks of the season. At this point, I'm no longer expecting the Bills to make the playoffs, but with Allen and Edmunds having some time to develop, a fairly high draft position (middle of the pack or better) and plenty of cap room, I think they could do some real damage next year.
  7. LOL Good one!
  8. That would surprise me. I think Buffalo is more inclined to add a third QB rather than just dump Peterman.
  9. The OP makes an excellent point. Yes, everybody has the same rules, but not everybody lost as many starters from their offensive line. The trade of Cordy Glenn didn't have much impact since Dawkins started most of the games in 2017 anyway, but losing both Eric Wood and Richie Incognito had a huge effect. I don't think the point of the OP had anything to do with fairness. Rules are necessary to keep a level playing field. It's just that the circumstances combined with the rules had the effect of making it just about impossible for the Bills to develop any cohesion and chemistry on the offensive line.
  10. If it didn't sound so awkward, we should give him the nickname "Cotter." Unfortunately "Cotter Boettger" just doesn't work.
  11. Depends on the QB. Some are sufficiently tough mentally they can handle anything they have to endure. Some aren't at first but have the potential to grow into a viable starting QB. It's tough to know what you've got until it's too late in the case of a QB that needs to be handled a certain way. Josh Allen seems to have a real good head on his shoulders. I'm hoping he'll be OK whatever happens this season.
  12. The offense could help the defense out a little to by cutting down on 3 and outs. The other team having the ball for an entire game tends to wear the defense down, while the other team's offense gets more energized.
  13. The other Josh Allen would be a great replacement for Lorenzo Alexander, which Buffalo is certainly gong to need sooner rather than later. Nothing against Zo, but his age does have a negative impact on what he can do. Ironically, both Josh Allens have almost the same height and weight and are very athletic for their respective positions.
  14. I'm assuming that if Pegula fired McBeane, then hiring the pair back is not an option. So, realistically, my first move is hiring a head coach to get me through the season. Not sure there is much quality out on the open market for head coaches at this time of year, so my best bet is promoting from within. The obvious choice is to promote a coordinator to acting head coach. Frazier has experience, but I think I'm a little more inclined to go with Daboll as I like his fire and hisexperience with the New England ethos. I sincerely hope that Pegula does not fire McDermott and Beane.
  15. It's starting to look as if Hurricane Florence may shift a little more south. South Carolina may take the direct hit, and then Florence could stall out. Inland areas will avoid the storm surge, and most areas even close to the coast won't get hurricane force winds, but Hurricane Florence has the potential to be a Hurricane Harvey like rain maker for a large area of South Carolina. We're talking 40+ inches of rain. Anybody living in low lying areas should consider getting out now.
  16. I could still see Bosa notching a couple sacks on Sunday. If Mills looks over on the Chargers sideline and sees Bosa, He's liable to get spooked, lose his balance, and fall into Allen a couple times.
  17. I know Brian Daboll's goal is that players not only know what they are supposed to do on a given play, he also wan't them to understand what the whole concept ofo the play is about, and what everybody else is supposed to do. Thus, It shouldn't be a huge surprise when a bright player can tell another player where to line up and what to do. On the other hand, it has to disappoint the coaches when another player doesn't have his own responsibilities mastered.
  18. I think defensive players are allowed considerably more leeway in the use of hands than offensive linemen. I think the defensive lineman can do whatever will help him get past the blocker, EXCEPT hands to the face. When it becomes defensive holding is when the offensive player is trying to get away from or past the defensive player. If the offensive lineman is trying to pull in order to lead block on an outside run, and the defensive tackle tackles him; that's defensive3 holding. The defensive player cannot hold him under those circumstances. One of the reasons it is hoped that Phillip Harrison will become a really effective defensive lineman is his background in wrestling should help him with the understanding of leverage and enhance his ability to use his hands.
  19. I am interested in Landry Jones. I'm not dropping Peterman, but carrying a third QB.
  20. How is that so? My understanding is that when a team trades a player who received a signing bonus on their last contract (as Cleveland traded Coleman to Buffalo) the originating team is still liable for the bonus. The new team is only liable for the salary portion, which was not guaranteed. When he was waived, that would have wiped the slate clean for Buffalo. Coleman gets a new contract with New England.
  21. I don't agree with everything you said, but you catch the general drift of my perspective.
  22. Peterman did a nice job in training camp and preseason. He won the QB competition straight up. There would have been all kinds of questions had he started Josh Allen in the Baltimore game. I think he was as disappointed as anyone in the way things turned out, and, I'm guessing, more than a little surprised. It is true that had Josh Allen started the game and then had to be pulled, it would have created an extremely awkward set of circumstances, but I don't really think that was a significant motivation for him to do things the way he did.
  23. I'm not as hard on Peterman as most, but I still think Allen should and will start.
  24. I saw maybe a couple of bad throws, and the worst one might have been deliberately thrown away. I saw two obvious throwaways, at least 4 drops and a couple of decent pass attempts that were broken up by good defensive play. So, to me, it looks like his play was much better than his stat line.
  25. Chalk that up to experience for Dawkins. When things get chippy, it's the player who retaliates who always gets caught, unless it's Jerry Hughes LOL.
