Anderson better mentor for Allen? I think so.
TigerJ replied to Thick or thin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Anderson can be an excellent mentor. He has been around the game, and even though he has not started much lately, he has seen and adopted the attitudes and patters that lead to success, and can model the same for Josh Allen. Reportedly, he already has. There is a chance he could be Buffalo's Josh McCown, who when he did start last year was very effective, and is apparently serving effectively in a mentor role for Sam Darnold. I'm not very optimistic about Sunday though, as Anderson really hasn't had enough time to fully assimilate Brian Daboll's system or shake of the rust. -
Why the handling of the QBs wouldn't have changed anything
TigerJ replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I read something somewhere that the Bills actually reached out to Derek Anderson quite a while ago. I think he was enjoying the time, not having to go through the rigors of training camp and being with his family. Option #3 may not have been available to Buffalo. -
Long hair is not a strategic advantage
TigerJ replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The tackle of Chris Ivory certainly would not have happened had he not had those dreadlocks. If he's all in on being the best he can be, I think that tackle might convince him to adopt a different hair style. But I think he makes enough of a contribution that keeping his 'do doesn't jeopardize his role on the team. -
This game is exhibit one of how a bad offensive line can make a QB look worse than he is. Ithink Arizona had to shuffle their offensive line around because of injury, and the guy playing left guard is getting manhandled. This is not meant to defend Buffalo's QBs, who have deserved most, if not all of the criticism they've received, but the offensive line at the start of the season didn't do them any favors. My theory is that the line played worse than the talent level of the players at the start of the season because the shuffling in the preseason prevented the development of chemistry on the line. I don't know that the line has great talent, but they have been improving. I hope it is enough and that Derek Anderson has had enough practice that the offense won't look as bad this Sunday as most fear, but I'm far from confident.

For those still complaining about Star..
TigerJ replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. He's never going to show up big time on the statline, but the stats that Milano, Edmunds and the outside pass rushers are racking up and helped by his consistent play in the middle. -
Pegula's can now own both the Sabres & Bills
TigerJ replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Couldn't they before now? My understanding was that NFL owners were forbidden from owning a franchise in a different sport in a different city. Jeremy Jacobs (owner of the Boston Bruins) for instance was not permitted to be a candidate to purchase the Bills unless he divested of the Bruins. The rule may have been changed to allow owners to own different teams in different sports AND cities, but I think the Pegulas have always been in the good graces of the league. -
Hernandez Beaten, Abused as Child
TigerJ replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would have liked to see this research look more closely at the age of the children when abuse took place. In the case of Reactive Attachment Disorder, the incidence of occurrence is definitely related to age - the younger the abuse, the more likely it is to result in Reactive Attachment Disorder. The reason for this is that in infancy to two years old (and actually prenatal experience as well) rapid development is going on in the brain. The brain is actually building its architecture and communication system (neurons) based on environment and experience. If there is a pattern of abuse and neglect occuring, it is likely the infant is being denied the opportunity to develop a primary bond (usually with the mother). It is the trust that develops through that primary bond that affects the way an infant will learn and relate to people the rest of his/her life. In essence, the Reactive Attachment/Borderline Personality individual lacks the ability to trust anyone. Lacking the ability to trust, they develop a strategy to achieve a sense of security through manipulation and control. They do know know how to love the way normal people do, and cannot develop the deeper relationships typical of normal people. Their relationships tend to be based on what meets their needs at the moment. They can mimic emotions, but don't feel them in the way that most people do. Violence is as much of a tool to manipulate and control their situation as is kindness. Our daughter seems to have learned to keep her violent streak under control, but she lies as easily as she tells the truth in order to get what she wants. If asking sweetly doesn't get her what she wants, she can become verbally abusive in an instant. Individuals who have been labeled in retrospect as having Reactive Attachment/Borderline Personality Disorder include Jeffrey Dahmler, Ted Bundy, and Adolph Hitler, to name a few. The article speaks about the high percentage of person in prison for violent crimes who were abused as children. I would venture to guess that a significant percentage of them could probably be diagnosed as having Reactive Attachment/Borderline Personality Disorder. -
Hernandez Beaten, Abused as Child
TigerJ replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's a complicated picture. A percentage of persons who suffer extreme abuse and neglect develop a condition called reactive attachment disorder. In adulthood this is very closely related to something called borderline personality disorder. Persons who have it certainly have to bear responsibility for actions they take, but they are still victims of the abuse of their childhood. I am the adoptive parent of a 20 year old, who is a classic case of reactive attachment/borderline personality disorder. We speak to her repeatedly about taking responsibility for choices she makes every day. Persons who have it can recover and live relatively normal lives, but sadly, many don't. A significant number end up in prison, and some have made the news over the years for having committed some of the most horrific acts of violence society has ever witnessed. -
If you're drafting in the top three, and you don't trade down, and either one of those two guys is available, you almost have to draft him. I don't think Buffalo will be drafting in the top three. If they are drafting in the top 10, I still would seriously consider a trade down. The positions of need for the Bills don't correspond with the talent at the top of the draft.

If we March Peterman out there again...I will....
TigerJ replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope you don't mind if I don't play this game. I don't think Peterman will get on the field again wearing a Bills uniform if the Bills feel llike they have any other options at all. At the same time, Peterman is a quality individual who tried his best in a difficult situation. I'm not going pile on somebody who was thrust into a situation not of his own choosing and had a bad time of it. -
Hopkins against White: 2 catches 23 yards...
TigerJ replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely!. Since he is their best receiver, the Texans would want to get him the most touches they can in situations where he can do the most damage once he's got the ball in his hands. The way to do that is to figure out ways to get him the ball when Tre White is not lined up against him. I'm just saying the low number of stats versus White is a little deceiving. It's not like he llined up against White the whole game and White just shut him down completely except for two passes. I'm definitely not trying to diss Tredavious White. The man is probably right now a top five cornerback in the league, and he hasn't reached his ceiling yet. -
Hopkins against White: 2 catches 23 yards...
TigerJ replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2 for 23 yards is not the whole story as other posts in this thread have already alluded to. Had Hopkins lined up across from White the whole game, he would have had more catches and more yards. Still, White did a terrific job. I certainly wouldn't complain about his coverage skills. -
Peterman has done it too many times now to think that he's going to correct it. I think there are ways he could take advantage of the fact that DBs are baiting him and anticipating the throw, but I don't expect he would even if he were to get the chance.

The Answer is Sitting in Tampa Bay
TigerJ replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think it is especially likely that McDermott will sit Josh Allen, but if he did, Derek Anderson is the guy he would start. Fitzpatrick is not leaving Tampa unless a team overpays to get him. I don't want the Bills to overpay, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't. -
I thought his play was improved from the Titans game. He attempted several intermmediate/long passes and was accurate on at least some of them. He is still taking too much time on a number of plays. Daboll is stil not placing a lot of trust in him.

Keeping this defense together through Free Agency
TigerJ replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The last three on that list are role players that can be replaced. Jordan Phillips has the potential to be much more than that. I think the Billdhave ample cap space to re-sign if they want. At some point Kyle Williams and Lorenzo Alexander will retire, and after this season is a real possibility for both. I think Harrison Phillips has the potential to play a Kyle Williams like role as a starter next year. Alexander would have to be replaced by bringing in a player from outside the organization. -
You stay classy, Patriots fans!
TigerJ replied to dollars 2 donuts's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that there are classless fans who are part of every team's fan base. I think the Patriots in particular have a high percentage of fans who are arrogant and feel entitled. I hope that when Bills fans finally enjoy some more success that they will remember how they feel about the arrogance and entitlement of Patriot fans. -
So who do we want to start at qb this Sunday?
TigerJ replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Anderson is ready, which I find doubtful, I'd be OK if he were named starter. I'm also OK with Allen. Peterman has rund out of chances in my book. -
Tyrod, Allen, and Peterman.
TigerJ replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Derek Anderson. I don't deal in hypotheticals from the past. Tyrod is not a Bill. Despite Peterman's statement about leaning from his mistakes, he clearly hasn't. There are only so many chances you can give him. I'm still hopeful Josh Allen will develop, and I think there are games he can win right now. Heck, I think if Buffalo had gotten great play, or even average play out of their special teams, they had a good chance of beating Houston. I said Derek Anderson because he's healthy, he has some physical skills, and some experience that includes one year of elite/near elilte play. -
I sincerely don't get all of the negativity.....
TigerJ replied to warrior9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe the negativity is the consequence of nearly two decades of futility on the field. The moment something goes wrong, the negativity rears its ugly head. Finger pointing begins. There have been times when I would avoid message boards for at least 2 or 3 days after a loss because of it. I recognize there are problems, and Beane/McDermott have misjudged some things. I'm pretty sure they counted on AJ McCarron to at least be decent and able to start games for most of the season to give Josh Allen a chance to get acclimated to the NFL and develop the skills needed to be effective. He wasn't, and Peterman was also ineffective, so Josh Allen had to step in before he could be effective. After it became clear Buffalo was going to lose their two best offensive linemen, (Incognito and Wood) Beane elected to stay with his original plan of finding a franchise QB and shoring up the defense. He would use a bandaid approach for the offensive line and the wide receivers group. The result is, Buffalo has an near elite defense and an inept offense. Josh Allen won't be a franchise caliber QB, or even a starting caliber QB this year. He might even be deficient next year in some ways (though hopefully will make a quantum leap forward over this year. So the negativity is rampant right now. A lot of it is just noise that I just screan out. I figure the Bills are going to struggle this year, then in the offseason, with Buffalo's dead cap money woes behind us, a huge amount of cap room to play with and plenty of draft capital, we should see major strides made next season: Josh Allen will be better (I hope). Buffalo should be able to sign a couple quality veteran offensive linemen and one quality #1 receiver. I think they will probably draft another receiver, offensive lineman and defensive end in the first three rounds of the 2019 draft. That would be a significant infusion of talent for the offense. I hold out hope that Wyatt Teller is developing and will be ready to start at guard next year too. I think Buffalo will be adding a running back in the middle of the draft, and probably in free agency as well. -
Offensive woes - how we got here and where to go from here
TigerJ replied to KingBoots8's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The bottom line is that things aren't going to change a lot during the season. Hopefully, young players, including the QB, will mature through the season and be better at the end than they are now, but decisions on personnel changes going forward will not be made until the offseason, except for fringe players, who can be changed in and out at any time. The Bills may win some games, but don't look like a serious threat to make the playoffs again this season. I still hope that Beane and McDermott are making the choices that ultimately will produce a consistent winner, but I think in the short term they may have underestimated how bad it could get. In general, it looks like the offseason will be focussed on upgrading offensive personnel, though the Bills may have to start thinking some about getting a little younger on the defensive line. Lorenzo Alexander can't last forever either. Still, the Bills need to invest in their offensive line, wide receivers and at running back. Yes, they may need to look at QB too, but that's not set in stone, at least not in the first round. -
The no call for pass interference early when Zay Jones was targeted was pretty bad, and was the primary reason the drive stalled. There were other calls that were bad, but not many that were a big deal IMO

Is Nate Peteman the worst QB in NFL history?
TigerJ replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not going to pile on. He has shown a strong tendency not to account for the DB on quick out passes, and that leads to FAR too many interceptions. Since he appears not to have learned from prior mistakes, it looks as if he has run out of time to prove he can be an NFL QB. I expect it's only a matter of time before he's looking for his next job. -
I reserve judgment until after the season at the earliest. Even if the Bills think Josh remains a viable possibility as a franchise QB, I wouldn't object to drafting another developmental guy. Peterman has run out of chances to even be a backup in the NFL. The Bills can never be sure he's not going to continue to throw interceptions. The 49ers drafted CJ Beathard late, and he lookes like a viable backup. The Bills could do the same. If they decide Josh Allen is bust bound, then the plan has to be draft a QB early. For the record, I think he played better today than last week
