Did McCoy Quit or Did the Bills Shelve Him?
TigerJ replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apologies if someone already pointed this out, but McCoy was limited in practice today. He was red shirted (no contact). That's stage for in the concussion protocol. If he made it through practice with no problems evident, he'll be cleared for full contact as early as tomorrow, and should play on Monday. -
Backup rookie offensive linemen, don't generally create a lot of buzz, unless it's for the wrong reasons. He could be improving in his technique, or not. We probably won't hear anything this season unless McDermott shakes things up and names him as a starter. I'm not expecting that. We'll learn a lot more in the next training camp.

I'm guessing he only has a contract for this season, but I'm not ruling out his presence next season. I don't think the Bills are certain of their plan for Anderson, because they may npot be certain of their plan for Peterman. Personally, I think the Bills will probably let Peterman go after the season. If they do, I wouldn't be surprised if they offer Derek Anderson a 2 year deal to stick around as backup QB and mentor to Josh Allen. I just don't think their ready to set it in stone. Therefore, it would be premature for Anderson to transplant his family.

Players that need replaced in 2019 for the Bills to succeed?
TigerJ replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with the OP on most of the offensive players. I think Holmes is OK as a role player, but the Bills wouldn't miss him if he were gone. Depending on their contracts, I wouldn't mind keeping some of our current offensive line starters as backups, but upgrades at starter needs to happen at several spots, especially center. There will be some age related chages on the defence, though noto necessarily all that you suggest. I would be surprised if Peterman sticks with the team, but I would not be surprised if Andersonn hangs around for another season or two in a mentor/backup role. I think a young QB will be on the PS next season. -
Would Tyrod have won the Texan & Indy games - and -
TigerJ replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Texans - maybe. Indy - no way. There was a complete defensive breakdown in addition to the offensive ineptitude. I really don't care. I'm moving forward, and what's done is done.Derek Anderson will get incrementally better as he shakes off the rust, and hopefully Josh Allen can correct his deficiencies in pocket presence, accuracy etc. Meanwhile, with a much improved cap situation moving forward, the Bills have an opportunity to add a lot of high quality support pieces in the off season. -
Reasonably so. I think the salary cap issues were significant with this team, and when McBeane arrived on the scene, a lot of the talent didn't match what they wanted to do. I think Beane acquired a number of bandaid players like Benjamin, that he knew didn't have elite talent, but he has also signed some players that show he has an eye for talent at a value price. Jordan Poyer is a good example. There is one major caveat to my thinking. The identification of a franchise QB is far from an exact science. Beane appears to have placed a high priority on several characteristics that Josh Allen seems to possess. He has elite physical traits, top notch character, and is the smartest QB in the draft class of 2018. However his shortcomings in experience and college production are near legendary. With all those desireable characteristics, the lack of experience and college productions renders the selection of Josh Allen in the draft a good guess at best. He could fail. If he does, it is questionable whether or not the fan base and ownership has enough patience to whether the storm until he can take another stab at a franchise QB.

Why Did Hughes Get Flagged for Unsportsmanlike?
TigerJ replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm guessing it has something to do with the way Jerry Hughes expressed his opinion of the bogus call. -
We should trade for Bridgewater NOW
TigerJ replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did read the post, and much of the reasoning is sound. It's just completely unrealistic. -
Is following the Bills a fun pastime for you?

There are fun moments and not fun moments, but it is always interesting. -
Most likely this.

We should trade for Bridgewater NOW
TigerJ replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Drew Brees is 39 years old, and the New Orleans Saints sit on top of the NFC South with a 5-1 record. When they traded a third round pick to get him, Sean Payton was not just thinking about a backup QB this season. He was thinking about the post Drew Brees era. The market rate for Bridgewater is already high. If Payton thinks he's got a 25 year old QB of the future on the roster already, it would be just about impossible to pry him off the New Orleans roster, and the price will be exhorbitant if it's even possible. -
There is a lot I like about Nate Peterman, but you won't hear me advocating for him to start. I think he has worn out his welcome as a potential starter in Buffalo. I don't know if he can overcome his propensity to throw interceptions on out patterns, and I doubt that either the fan base or the coaching staff can exercise the patience it would take to find out.

McDermott and Beane have done a Very Good job.
TigerJ replied to Kevin1778's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he was enjoying the time off with his family. If you can sign a contract during the season and avoid all the crap that is training camp, it's an easy choice to make. -
It's going to be bad, I will grant that. As far as I'm concerned, the 2018 season is no longer about reaching the playoffs for the Bills. It is about an opportunity for young players to develop. The game against the Patriots is close to meaningless for the Bills. They are going to look bad, and it will be nearly impossible to tell if the young players are learninging anything from it. Once Josh Allen gets healthy again, we'll be able to watch to see if he's learning and growing. Honestly, though, I'm not sure that we'll get much of an idea of what he can or can't become until well into 2019.

I'm with you. Unfortunately there is a significant faction of frustrated fans who are qucik to point fingers and look for scapegoats when the losses start piling up. Experct another round of "Fire 'McBeane" and change everything in the offseason threads after New England beats up on Buffalo next week.

I was very wrong about Tyrod & have to own it.

Game results are rarely as bad or as good as they might appear. I think that is true this season, and in the Indianapolis game in particular. I think the young players on the Bills are somewhat fragile in terms of their psyche, and when things go bad, they can start go goo bad in a hurry, but I think experience will fix a lot ofo that. As far as Derek Anderson's performance is concerned, I said before the game, I was concerned about how things would turn out. It's not that he can't turn in a competent performance. I was just concerned that it would be hard to do so on ten days practice. While he and Brian Daboll are familiar with each other, there have been a lot of years that have passed, and Daboll's offense has changed significantly. As the game went on, and the Bills were forced to pass more to try and catch up, the limited number of plays Anderson could run made it easier for Indianapolis to anticipate what the Bills were going to do. I think the game next week is going to be similarly ugly, not because Anderson wont make strides. I think he will;. He's not going to get comfortable enough and have a strong enough command of the playbook to look good versus the New England Patriots, however. Also, right now, the youth of the Bills defense makes them particularly vulnerable to crafty high end veteran QBs like Luck, Rodgers, and Brady. So, I expect another round of fingerpointing and scapegoating after next Monday's game, and it will be wrong and misdirected. -

I stand by what I said. Prior to the Indy game, Buffalo's defense was looking like it was near elite. In the words of Fred Jackson, it looked like Indy's offensive coordinator was able to take advantage of the youth of the linebackers; Edmunds and Milano. By all accounts they are promising young linebackers, who just need to gain more experience. On offense, there is more work to be done, admittedly. The Bills need to upgrade their starters on the offensive line and at wide receiver. I'm not against drafting another QB next spring, but I don't want to trade picks to move higher to do it, and I don't think the Bills should even go after one in the first round. I also think the Bills should try and get younger at running back. I don't think any of that constitutes a full rebuild. I also don't think Buffalo should make wholesale changes in their coaching staff. If McDermott decides to tweak his coaching staff, that's one thing, but I continue to believe the most important thing for the Bills to strive for is continuity. You are welcome to disagree. -
Who to start against NE?
TigerJ replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No question - Anderson. Another week of Anderson's growing familiarity with the offense will enable Brian Daboll to open up the play book more. When the Indy game was still competitive, and there was a threat of the run, Anderson wasn't too bad considering. I've seen enough of Peterman to have a hard time believing his propensity to throw interceptions, especially on out patterns. In the end, neither one is capable of leading the Bills to a win over the Patriots, even if they had better players around them. I may not even watch the game next week. I'm more interested in what happens in the second half of the season. Are the young defensive players going to learn after being schooled by some of these great QBs (Rodgers, Luck, Brady)? Can the team recover some discipline? I think the losses have gotten to some of the players, and they have let their frustration cause them to get careless. Too many penalties and other mistakes. Playoffs are not mathematically eliminated at this point, but I'll be shocked if Buffalo hasn't been eliminated before the end of November. I think the offseason is going to be pretty exciting. -

TigerJ replied to twoandfourteen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will agree, the offense was horrible today, but I believe it would absolutely be a mistake to blow up the team. McBeane made the decision to try and find the QB of the future and find some lynchpin pieces to the defense. That decision made it necessary to try and use bandaids to hold the rest of the offense together. Mistake? You can debate that. Maybe Buffalo should have tried to build more of the support pieces into the offense better offensive linemen and receivers, and maybe had a little more youth at RB. I don't think there is a clear answer yet. The jury is still out on Allen. I don't know if signing Derek Anderson will pan out, but I wasn't expecting an awful lot ten days after coming off the golf course. I think maybe the losing is leading to the expectation of losing. That makes it harder to overcome. It is going to continue against New England next Monday night BUT, I think McDermott knows how to coach and get his players to perform. I think Beane will address the offense in a major way in the offseason. I think Josh Allen is going to get a lot better next season. And I think Brian Daboll can be a creative offensive coordinator when he has some talent and experience to work with. Firing the coach in my thinking is a guarantee to continue nearly two decades of futility, and the biggest mistake Terry Pegula could make with this team right now. -
What did you want to hear - the truth? "If only I'd been competent, I'd still be coaching."
