If the conventional wisdom is correct (QB needy teams will over draft prospects out of need) then Dwayne Haskins, and probably Drew Lock and Daniel Jones will get drafted in the first round, and one might get drafted in the tope 10.
-
Who really here is plugged into the draft?
TigerJ replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't do original research on players, but I stay on top of what media observers and mock drafters think of all the top prospects. -
Would you take a shot on Jalen Collins?
TigerJ replied to MrEpsYtown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would not rule him out before doing my due dilligence. -
So realistically, who do you want at 9?
TigerJ replied to *******'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is safe to assume Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams will be gone. After that, the draft gets harder to call. Most, but not all prognosticators think Josh Allen will be gone. After that, it looks like a crap shoot. Some think Jonah Williams will get drafted in the top 6 or so, some don't. Same thing with Ed Oliver and Greedy Williams. If he's available at #9 Jonah Williams is probably my top pick. I would also be fine with Ed Oliver, DK Metcalf (who will almost certainly be available) or Greg Little. I would be a bit nervous about Clelin Ferrell or Rashan Gary, In my ideal world a couple QB needy teams in the top 8 will draft Drew Lock and Dwayne Haskins. Then some nutcase GM will think AJ Brown is the receiver he's got to have, and some team needing defense will draft a guy like Jeffery Simmons. That would leave more players to choose from that I favor. I'm not holding out too much hope that will happen. Only one thing is certain at this point. Everything will change by the time the draft is held, and there will be a different list of prospects we're all drooling over than we have now. -
Josh Allen is a cheat code on 3rd and 4th and 1!!
TigerJ replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Josh is big strong and athletic. He should continue to be next to impossible to stop, especially if the Bills put a competent line in front of him next season. -
With a new offensive line coach and probably 2-3 new starters, it will be a very different offensive line next season. Hopefully, it will be better. Once the Bills have the right coach and decent talent, the next issue they'll face on the offensive line is chemistry. It will be important to get settled quickly on the starters in training camp so they can learn whatever blocking scheme they'll be using and get used to each other. .

If Mike Mayock had run our draft last five years

Thanks, major, for confirming what I figured had to be the case. -
Our coach...say what you want but he's a class act.
TigerJ replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure if McDermott would have done the same thing to honor Kyle Williams' exit from the NFL if it had been a close game. It was nice that since the score afforded him that luxury he went ahead and did it. My guess is, being the meticulous coach that he is, he had everything thought out ahead of time - what he would do for Kyle depending on game circumstances. Classy in any case. It's not only classy though. It had long term benefit for the team. It was both a sign of and a reinforcement of the team mentality he has built in Buffalo. It was well known among team members the kind of attitude Kyle Williams has had since day one, thirteen years ago. They could also see how much the organization appreciated it, and how they themselves wanted to see that Kyle received the honor he deserved. It's not a stretch then for team members to think, "If I have that same attitude, maybe I will also be appreciated down the road." Obviuously, the professionalism and team first mentality of Kyle Williams has been a strong positive for this team. In essence, McDermott would love to encourage the development of a bunch of junior Kyle Williamses for the future. To that end, it was probably pretty smart to honor Kyle the way he did. -
If Mike Mayock had run our draft last five years
TigerJ replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't disagree about Mayock's relative expertise in the universe of prognosticators, but when the OP names names of players Mayock would have had Buffalo draft over the past 5 years, I don't know where those names would have come from if not Mayock's mock drafts. -
I think it depends completely on off season acquisitions. If they have the opportunity to bring in someone who has an ideal skill set for left tackle, do it, and switch Dawkins over. The thing to remember is that Dawkins made an attempt to switch to right tackle (he played left tackle in college) as a rookie, and struggled with it. I'm not saying he can't do it, but it may not be a quick and seamless transition.

The old saying goes "Hindsight is 20/20." It's easy to say any failed coach should have been fired earlier. The thing is, it doesn't actually have to be true, because nobody knows what might have been. Suppose Terry Pegula adopts a policy for his head coach and GM. "Win your first year or you're done." Now project out the next decade: How many winning seasons do you think the Bills might have. My guess is not very many. Just looking at the state of the Bills right now, I'm pretty encouraged. No, they did not have a successful season, but they dropped their dead cap money from among the highest in the league to among the lowest. They have one of the higher totals in cap room going into the offseason. They likely have a starting QB, who, barring injury will be in that position for the next decade. They got positive contributions from a whole bunch of rookies and second year players, and ther is a very strong vibe of optimism from the players as they close things out. I actually think that among the many coaches who were fired in Buffalo over the last 2 decades, a few of them might have turned things around and started winning if given a little more time. I also believe that the lack of continuity is the greatest enemy of long term success. So I guess you'd have to say I am in complete disagreement with the OP.

OT Jonah Williams in the first
TigerJ replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's a low risk pick, but may not have the highest ceiling of any offensive tackle in the draft. Beane is a riverboat gambler in the draft. If his first draft is any indication, he will swing for the fences. -
If Mike Mayock had run our draft last five years
TigerJ replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm assuming the OP is referring to Mayock's annual mock draft. Different mock drafters have their own agenda when making a mock draft. Sometimes they are making predictions as to what each team might do. Sometimes they are doing the mock to reflect what they themselves would do if they were the GM. Sometimes they will be up front about their agenda, sometimes not. Does anyone know if Mayock explains which one he is doing? If it is a prediction, then he might have a very different take when he's doing it as a GM. -
If Frazier departs, Steve Wilks is the no brainer replacement.

That would be hillarious.

Tom Coughlin offended by... what, exactly?
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't really care about Jacksonville, but I like that Buffalo's locker room and coaching staff all seem to be on the same page and have the same enthusiasm and focus for the future. Buffalo seems to have a much better locker room and alignment through the whole organization than seems to be the case in much of the league. -
I don't think the Dolphins mailed it in. I think the Bills beat an opponent who wanted to win badly. Gase had at least some reason to believe that a win versus a loss could be the difference between sticking for another season or not. That makes the win just a little bit sweeter for me.

Las Vegas Raiders: Mike Mayock hired as GM
TigerJ replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fascinating hire. I don't think there is any possible way to predict how he'll do. From Mayock's perspective, it is a golden opportunity to put his money (or the money of the Raiders) where his mouth is. There is real risk for him in that if he flops it will show in the team and eventually get him fired if he makes too many wrong choices. I admire him for taking that risk, and leaving the cushy world of the media observer. -
Bills sign Derek Anderson to extension
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Meh. It's OK, I guess as a benbefit to Josh Allen. I think it's a bit redundant (Matt Barkley is already a veteran presence). With Josh Allen being just a second year QB (in 2019) there's no particular rush to bring in a developmental guy. After next season, I would definitely let him go in favor of a youngster. -
While Buffalo has an older roster, when you average out every player, they have had a lot of youth playing key roles this season. They include: Josh Allen - rookie CB Zay Jones - second year WR Robert Foster - rookie UDFA WR Jason Croom - second year UDFA TE Dion Dawkins - second year LT Wyatt Teller - rookie LG Tre White - second year CB Levi Wallace - rookie UDFA CB Tremaine Edmunds - rookie LB Tavon Johnson - rookie CB Matt Milano - second year LB There are other young players I didn't mention who might step into more significant roles in the future (Harrison Phillips). I list the players I did because I think it's a good sign that they are contributing in significant ways. The rookies from this past year should experience significant improvement next season. Second year players should also experience improvement going into their third year, if not as much. They weren't all starters for the entire season. Some are much better players than others at this point. Still, when I see that this team won 6 games while depending on a rookie QB, and that many other young players, it encourages my optimism for the future.
