Senior Bowl- Day 3 A Bills fan first hand take
TigerJ replied to CEN-CAL17's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm guessingyou would avoid putting Risner at left tackle. That being the case, Buffalo would face a fair amount of criticism if they took him at #9 overall. Still, if they like him that much, and don't mind the criticism, people will forget where he was taken if he nails down a spot on the o-line for the next decade plud. -
If the contract is large enough, the money might better be spent on a couple of solid free agents. If the contract is more modest, the Jags will probably eat the contract themselves. Spotrac says the dead cap money tied up with Bortales would be 16,500,000 in 2019, presuming, I imagine he's cut before June 1. I think Buffalo could sign a couple of nice free agents at 8 million apiece.

Most likely to..... Start someone other than his incumbent starting Quarterback* week 1: Brian Flores - Dolphins Be a 'one and done' Head Coach: Kliff Kingsbury - Arizona (he's making the jump from college to the pros and brings a college mentality to the offense. Chip Kelly was the last one to try that, with mixed results. Having seen it before in Kelly, opposing defensive coordinators may adjust to it far more quickly this time around. Add to that the fact that Arizona has a young QB who just might be better suited to an old fashioned West Coast offense, and Arizona may be setting itself up for a disaster.) Make the playoffs his first year: Freddie Kitchens - Cleveland (Cleveland is loaded with young talent, many of whom are players entering their third or fourth season. They have a potential franchise QB in Mayfield, and started to get a lot better in 2018 versus previous years. Next year could be the year they get over the hump.) Win NFL Coach of the Year at some point in his first 3 years: Matt LeFleur - Aaron Rodgers has a head coach and an offense he likes. The Packers still have a lot of talent. He could have a nice enough season to grab coach of the year honors next year. If he doesn't do it next season, it gets progressivly more difficult as Rodgers ages. Win a Superbowl in the job to which he has just been hired: Bruce Arians - Tampa Bay (An old QB whisperer rekindles the magic with talented problem child Jameis Winston) Become Head Coach of the Buffalo Bills at some point in the future: This is a tough one since Sean McDermott is going to make the process work and be a fixture in Buffalo for the next 20 years, winning multiple Super Bowls. That rules out older guys like Arians and Fangio. From Arizona, I think Kingsbury will head back to college. Peguloa won't want to have to make eye contact with Adam "Evil Eyes" Gase, so he's out. I'll go with Zac Taylor, but I don't have a compelling reason.

The thing is in many parts of the draft, there are multiple players at multiple positions between the values of whom you could not slip a piece of dental floss. So, if you've got a group of players like that in say the third round, need becomes an important criteria in helping the GM decide which player to pick. If you've got a player who's head and shoulder above the next best guy, which does happen, you pick the better player even if he doesn't fill a need. Either that, or you attempt to trade down a few spots to where value meets need.

Don't underestimate the lust of NFL teams that don't have one for a shiny new franchise QB. Yes, the failed retreads will be shuffled around, but that won't stop teams from looking for a brand new QB.

Ideal scenario? Trade with Washington who wants/needs a QB. Pick Dalton Risner at #16. -
Problems with making PI reviewable...
TigerJ replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My suggestion is to make plays where there is a change of possession totally reviewable, including penatlies. The change of possessions could be due to a fumble, interception, or downs. They already review the plays to look at fumbles and interceptions. I know, there is still the issue of ticky tack stuff that everybody commits all the time. They'd have to figure out how much of that they are going to allow in reviews, but it would have allowed the league office to catch NRC's mugging of the New Orleans receiver on the non-call that cost the Saints a trip to the Super Bowl and led to a class action lawsuit against the league. Since most change of possession plays are already reviewed, (except for turning the ball over on downs) there would be little or no time added to games. -
Updates from Senior Bowl week in Mobile, AL
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are some who could very easily take that as a racist remark. (the tweet-not your reply) -
It is looking as if up to three teams might be looking to draft a QB in the top ten, including Washington, which would have to trade up to do it. That means if Buffalo were to have a chance to trade down with Washington at #16, they would still get a top 15 player. There is no consensus about a lot of the players in Jeremiah's top 15, however. There is a relative consensus on Bosa, Q. Williams, Josh Allen, Ed Oliver and Devin White. The other 10 in the top 15 depends on who you ask.

Redskins may want to trade up for QB - targeting Haskins
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Charlie Campbell at Walter Football, reporting rumors at the Senior Bowl says theGiants have interest in Haskins, Daniel Jones and Kyler Murray. Of course, if the draft a QB, they would have to choose. Denver reportedly likes Drew Lock, and Washington likes Daniel Jones, but don't think he'll drop to them at 16. http://www.walterfootball.com/seniorbowl2019rumors.php Much could change over the next three months, but as of this moment, it looks to be shaping up nicely for a potential trade for Buffalo. -
I'm willing for the league to try just about anything. Here's another idea: I think the officials automatically review plays where a change of possession takes place. I think they could expand on that to include penalties called or not called.

The Bills are in a good spot. The only thing that could mess up a trade back possibility would be if Denver wants a QB and fears another team leapfrogging them. They could conceivably trade above Buffalo, and Buffalo would lose most of their leverage. -

Bills promote Asst WR coach Chad Hall to replace Robiskie
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The main reason I don't think Culley is leaving the QB coach position is that the opportunity to coach QBs was probably the condition upon which he left the Chiefs. Should that be taken from him, I would guess he would be pissed. -

There is ongoing research in trying to develop helmets that do a better job of protecting against concussions. Easier said than done, however. -
