Feliciano got rag dolled the entire game by Chris Jones.  I realize that Jones is a monster and does it to most guards....but we have to improve our guards play next year.  I dunno how we can do it, but Feliciano is not the answer as a pass blocker.  He routinely gets wrecked.

I love his attitude.....I just think that we have to look at this chiefs game and adjust accordingly. Improving the interior of our OL is paramount

I'm wondering cut Morse/re-sign Mongo to play center is a possibility.  I know the sample size is small but he seemed to play well when called on to replace Morse.

  2. To all of the people here that hate Mahomes...why?  He's an amazing player and seems like a good dude.  Yeah he's not a Bill but I think it's okay to like players on other teams.

I also agree that anyone rooting for the Bucs to win the game should have their head examined.  Literally anyone over Brady should be a pretty automatic Bills fan opinion.  If Hitler was QBing the Chiefs, I would root for the Chiefs.

  3. I really don't get how so few commenters put so much of the blame on the backs and so little on the offensive line/scheme.  I get that it's frustrating watching Motor consistently getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage but is that really because he's slow, lacks burst & isn't a home run hitter?

Motor and Moss were both at the bottom of the league in yards before contact but Motor was near the top in yards after contact and Moss was middle of the pack.  Maybe a bit more speed means they could hit the hole faster but I really think the issue is that the holes weren't there in the first place either because the line simply doesn't run block well or the scheme doesn't create holes.

I do think that getting a back is a good idea but I think drafting one in the first or second round would be a mistake especially if it means trading up to get one.

Here’s the thing, I don’t want us running more. I just want us to run better when we do. Moss and Singletary are slow and have little big play ability.

We have an MVP caliber QB who led one of the best offenses in the league to 13 wins. The last thing I want to do is take the ball out of his hands to run the ball more. We are a passing offense now. If you’re telling me we need to draft a RB high then I’m not thrilled with the idea. I’d rather draft lineman high and look for a speedy back in the mid to late rounds.

One of the big issues we have is we don’t have anyone that can pressure the QB consistently. Hughes and Addison are becoming fossils and Epenesa doesn’t look like he has that kind of burst to be a consistent disrupter.

We desperately need someone who can create pressure and we need another playmaker on offense, preferably a pass catcher

This gets a little off topic but since a lot of posts have talked about the draft what the heck.  Forget RB in round one but if somehow Kyle Pitts manages to slip to the middle of the first round or even to the 20s, you absolutely have to consider trading up to get him.  I believe that he could end up being the same type of generational talent that Kelce is.

  4. Question to members that are hypothesizing a trade that is two firsts plus a QB (Tua, Darnold, Daniel Jones, etc.)...do you think that's what Houston would consider equal value or is it what you consider equal value?  If it is the latter then you REALLY need to take a look at trade compensation for players not remotely as valuable as a franchise QB.

I have seen a few comments saying that Jacksonville shouldn't be in the mix for a possible trade.  Um, why on earth not?  I get that Lawrence is a great prospect but he's still exactly that...a prospect.

  5. As always, Jerry played his a** off.  I get that he doesn't have the same sack numbers that he had back in Mario/Kyle/Marcel days but other than actual sack number he is statistically still a very very good pass rusher.

Always loved Jerry because it really seems like he took a hometown discount after his breakout years and all he has done since then is work his tail off.

  6. Watching Tua has made me appreciate Josh and his insane arm strength even more because sometimes it looks like it takes everything that Tua has to move the ball downfield.  I had to poke around a bit to find it but I remember seeing this before the draft and did a double take...keep in mind this is before this season & without Josh's improved mechanics...

  7. This has been a really great thread!

I think a better question could be will teams be more likely to take a risk in the draft rather than make a mistake...risks can certainly become mistakes.

I really think it takes a near perfect scenario for a team & organization to be a good combination.  If you flip Darnold and Josh what is the scenario for both teams and players?  I think Darnold ends up looking pretty good and Josh ends up looking pretty bad and that's not taking anything at all away from Josh because I do (now) feel like he's the better player.  I also het scared because that combo can be disrupted so easily...look no further than Carson Wentz.

I appreciate Josh and I appreciate the coaching staff and front office but really I appreciate the whole collective organization more than any single part.  Man, isn't it nice to be able to say that as a Bills fan!?

2 - Momentum - The shifting of a games momentum is something you typically gradually feel.  For this game, if you weren't lulled asleep by the punt-fest yet as the thoughts of depression creeped in about another poor Prime Time showing, you could see the entire game turn on the pick six by Taron Johnson.  Of all the plays fans have been clamoring for, this was it.  The Steelers had established their offense all season on their short passing attack.  Our offense couldn't score.  Our defense had yet to score a defensive touchdown all season.  Johnson's anticipation, cut on the ball, and break away speed from JuJu was the most perfect moment that could happen for this game and defense.  Within a few moments, all of your doubts and questions about this game and contender talk went away.  There was no looking back.

    Great as always Virgil!

I think the Johnson play was not only a great play to switch the momentum of the game but also for the season itself & is right up there with the forced Cam Newton fumble as one of the more important plays of our season the keep our momentum & overall trajectory going.  I love that those two plays were made by someone other than stars on the team as well.  Really seems to show that this is a real team.

I tell anyone considering this... PLEASE listen to the Cover 1 podcast with Greg Tompsett from the bye week I believe, about the Bills 2021 cap situation.

While certain media types (WGR, Fairburn & Buscaglia on the Athletic) are bemoaning the Bills cap situation in 2021, they can do a lot, rather easily, to give themselves cap space.

With rollover from this year, we’re projected to have roughly $5M in cap space.

Easier cuts like Vernon Butler ($6.8M saved), Tyler Matakevich ($3.35M) and Lee Smith ($2.25M) can be made. That saves a total of $12.4M

John Brown, Jerry Hughes, and Micah Hyde can all be re-signed, lowering all of their 2021 cap hits, by an average of about $3M-$4M each. That saves another $10M-$12M.
Also, their 2022 years of their contracts (except maybe Hyde, would be relatively easy to get out of if Hughes/Brown regress further in 2021).

So with those cuts and extensions, we’re at about $27M-$29M.

Lastly you can restructure contracts. This is usually reserved for players who you plan on keeping. You basically turn their salary for 2021 into a signing bonus which gets evenly divided throughout the length of the contract. Someone Ike Diggs is perfect for this, gives him more money up front, and gives us a year to hold off on totally redoing his contract. It also saves about $7.5M-$8M on his 2021 cap hit.

So right there, without anything very painful at all, I’ve built up the Bills 2021 cap space to roughly $35M-$37M.

Then looking at a guy like Milano, maybe the injury allows him to take a deal that is more based on incentives, and has an overall value of maybe $11M/aav, but the cap hit for the first year is only say, $7M. Another $6M on Feliciano.

Our draft class should be cheaper since we pick later, maybe $3.5M, and then re-sign outstanding free agents (Dean Marlowe, Taiwan Jones etc etc) for veteran minimums of roughly $1M each (let’s say 6 guys make the roster at the end of the day, a cost of maybe $8M total).

We’ve filled a roster, re-signed two of our three top UFA’s, and added 6 draft picks, a complete roster, for about $25M of that $37M-$39M in cap space.

That leaves us with about $12M-$14M to play with in the UFA market, or make trades, or keep in space and roll over into 2022 when Allen and Edmunds will likely be on their 5th year options and more space will be needed.

That was entirely too informative...you have no business on a message board :D
