Gonna leave this here too as a fun read.

Jets fans celebrating on Draft Night in 2018 and laughing at us. Aged like milk.

Thank you for this...that was a fun read.  Imagine being a Jets fan and feeling like you could dunk on another team for anything at all!

I will confess that I was one of the detractors in 2018 and I have never been happier about being incredibly wrong.

  2. If Singletary had two bad years I'd say move on but it's a little hard to forget that he was awfully elusive in his rookie year...so much so that it seemed criminal how poorly he was used.  He wasn't great last year but he absolutely wasn't as bad as a lot of the board thinks he was...his yards after contact were excellent, yards before contact not so good.  The latter really seems to be more blocking than anything although he may have missed the hole plenty of times as well.

For all of the talk about Motor, I'm surprised that Moss hasn't been talked about more.  He's the back that I really think has the most upside and he's also why I'm not a big fan of RB in the first.  I think Etienne and Harris are obviously both better backs than what we have but that doesn't mean we can't have a good running game with what we have.  The good thing is that I have exponentially more faith in the McBeane admin so my reaction to a 1st round RB wouldn't be what it was in the past 😆

I'm on the Creed Humphrey bandwagon as well. Morse is a heck of a player, but you can't have faith in him making it through a full season. Five documented concussions at interior linemen is just plain scary to be honest.

I'm of the opinion that stability at C is just as (if not more) important as LT for a QB, and I wouldn't be surprised if Beane tries to get Allen his Kent Hull to play with for the next decade.

He'd be a great pick up as well & could make Morse expendable next year if we need the cap space.

I don't think any TE aside from Pitts will be an upgrade over Knox, possibly ever, but at least for 3 ish years.

Depending on how far he falls, my crush is Greg Rousseau. So much potential.

He's definitely not an immediate upgrade but I think he could be a really good complementary piece in 12 personnel or even as an H-back type.

Crush #1- Kenneth Gainwell-  I think he’d be a great compliment to Moss and a huge playmaker in our offense.  Michael Carter is my runner up

Elijah Moore/Dyami Brown/Terrace Marshall/D’Wayne Eskeridge/Tylan Wallace- I really hope we can land one of them.  Our offense needs explosive playmakers not named Diggs.

Patrick Jones- the train has left the station and Jones is left standing there.  I hope his  pre-draft fall lands him in Buffalo rd 4-5.

Tyson Campbell/Paulson Adebo-  looking like we aren’t landing one of the top 4 CBs-  I hope we can land one of these guys as our cb2.

1T-  there are several that I’m interested in.  I hope to get one of them in rd 5.  Wishful thinking

Of all the DEs, I prefer Phillips the most based on talent.  Ronnie Perkins is my favorite based on his intensity on the field.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah—— he won’t be a Bill.  It makes me sad.

Trevon Moehrig-  he won’t be a Bill, but I have a crush. He’s a stud.

He's definitely on my short list of day one crushes.

Some of these guys I'd be okay with at #30 as well, but the ones that seem to be getting mocked roughly around our range that I like are:

    • Ifeatu Melifonwu - at least partially because it would be fun to have a Syracuse guy on the team, but I also think his skillset would be a good fit for us and the 2nd round is late enough to gamble on his upside
    • Rondale Moore - injuries probably scare me off in the 1st round, but Day 2 would make me very happy
    • Joseph Ossai - might be my preferred choice at #30, but seems like he's generally projected to be a mid to late 2nd round pick
    • Brady Christenson - Just seems like kinda my type as far as OLine guys go; coming from a dominant college OLine and plays with really good technique and instincts

I really love Moore too.  I have no idea what he will end up being in the NFL but his college tape is spectacular.

  6. We've covered the first round quite a bit so I wanted to see if anyone had any particular day two crushes that you're really hoping to see in a Bills uni for years to come.  For me, it's Tommy Tremble.

This draft only has one elite tight end and honestly I hope some draft day gas mask bong pictures of Kyle the unicorn Pitts are released so we might have an outside chance at him, but barring that then we won't be getting a generational talent at that position so I've looked at other options and the one that I have REALLY grown to like is Tremble.  He lacked production at Notre Dame but but for a lack of talent.  More often than not he was asked to block and what I love about his game is that he really seemed to relish that role.

I've watched a lot of footage of the second tier tight ends and I personally am not overly impressed with Freiermuth, particularly as a 2nd round option.  He does some things well but doesn't seem to do any of them REALLY well so I would rather pick a player that does something (in this case blocking) really well and has the upside to improve in other areas.

We might need to move up in the 3rd round or maybe even take him in the 2nd (obviously depending on what we do in the 1st) but I really think he could be a great piece in this offense.  Knox can make a good block here and there but can also totally miss or even worse, get blown the F up in pass protection.  I really think that Tremble could replace the blocking ability of Lee Smith with far more of a threat as a pass catcher on some short crossing routes, or tight end screens and can also improve the overall screen game based on how many times I've seen him utterly humiliate someone in the secondary by blocking them totally out of the play.

What do you guys & gals think?

  7. If we draft a RB at 30, I can live with it but I'd prefer Harris over Etienne.  If we trade up to get either, then I'm not happy.  I think the only trade up scenario that has any value is edge or CB but particularly edge since CB is pretty deep this year.

I think I'm still in the minority when it comes to RB because I'm fine with what we have if we can block and scheme better this year.  Lots here have said that we were a bad running team last year but I think it's much more accurate to say that we were an average running team last year.  We didn't pass a lot because we had to, we did that because it was clearly the strength of the team.  Speaking of, its very worth noting that Moss was an outstanding pass blocker.

Swung for the fences to get Kyle Pitts.   Cost 2-1s 2-2s and a 6th to get Pitts and a 6th.  Still came out with 8 picks this year and still have 5 picks next year.   Just wanted to try something different.

If we cant sign both Allen and Edmunds, Im trading Edmunds after the draft,  before I lose him anyway, to get back early draft capital in 2022.

Haha, I was just tinkering with how to be able to get Pitts too 😆  As much as I want him on the Bills, I also just don't want to see him end up on the Dolphins.

injury and size concerns with him - not saying he couldn't be a consideration, but he does not fit all of the desired parameters.

I'm hoping both of those things bump him to the second round but wouldn't be upset if we took him at 30.  He reminds me of Steve Smith a bit but faster.  Either Moore at 30 would be a better move than a RB at 30.

  10. It's sort of nice not getting excited about the draft mostly because we're picking in the top ten again.  I don't get too high or too low over any pick though, particularly since I was really p*ssed when they picked Allen...oops 🙄

Even if the Bills had zero picks, I would still get excited about the draft because I absolutely love the NFL above any other sports league by a wide margin.  Any NFL is > pretty much anything else sports related for me.

  11. I love discussions like this, especially during the off-season when it can be tough to come up with new topics!  I'll go by position or position group and will eliminate anyone that made it to even a single playoff game to make it truly the drought era players.

QB - No...just no.  Above any other position, this is why there was a drought.  Sorry Drew & Fitz but we're fine.  MAYBE Fitz as a backup but a general rule of the universe is that if Fitz is on your team, he will be starting at some point.

RB - My head says Lynch but my heart says Fred.  Going to go with Fred because of what he would add to the culture...plus he was a hell of a player as well.

WR - Moulds is eliminated because he made the playoffs, plus we already have a #1 alpha dog (alpha Digg?) receiver.  Side note, man do I get sad thinking about what he could have been with better QB...freaking monster.  I'm going to go with Lee Evans & pretty easily for me.  Lee was a much better version of John Brown and had very nice seasons with trash QB play.

TE - Oof...I guess Riemersma if I had to pick one but honestly Knox might be a better player.

O-Line - This one is pretty tough because our line was average at best for quite a long time.  Was going to go with Wood and/or Levitre but it would be dumb to not go with Jason Peters.  Move the Shnowman to RT and gracious is that a pair of tackles.  Side note...I know Peters isn't very popular on these boards but that's one of the dumbest moves by the Bills during the drought.

D-Line - Kyle made a playoff game so he's out but even if he could be included, it would still be Mario Williams in an absolute landslide.  Jerry needs someone on the other side and he hasn't had anyone since...Mario Williams.  Another not so popular Bill on TBD but before Rex messed things up, he was an outstanding player.

Linebacker - Takeo, slightly over London Fletcher.  I think his game would still fit today's defensive schemes, mostly because he was an absolute beast.

DB - I was going to say Gilmore since he technically applies but he just feels too recent to pick 😄  I'll go with Nate Clements.  Numbers may have made his look better than he actually was, but still a good player.

Special Teams - I'm happy with Bass-o-matic so he's good.  Moorman was a consideration but I'm going to go with Terrance McGee.  Obviously an above average CB as well but such a great returner and one of my favorite drought era Bills.

  12. I really don't know why the Raiders even bother keeping any draft picks.  They should just trade the picks away for players that they will then ultimately overpay, then misuse and cut.  Seriously, that freaking team wins by accident and are every bit of a dumpster fire as the Jets, Jags, etc.

Perhaps there is a medical issue with Hurst but if not, he's a good player that should make an impact somewhere.

  13. 19 minutes ago, The Jokeman said:

McDermott to me favors larger DEs in terms of height, I mean Darryl Johnston, Obada and Espensa are all 6'6" as was Trent Murphy so not sure Ojulari fits the profile but Rosseau does. Yet not sure we got DE first round, I think CBs the spot and Eric Stokes seems to fit zone defense and athletic freak we favor with top picks.

That certainly could be the case & I would be okay with Rousseau...he is certainly a very large human being 😄  But maybe we already have enough bigger guys to consider Ojulari if he's still there at 30 (I honestly don't think he will be).

Stokes would be a nice pick but might be a bit of a reach at 30.  If we got any edge player in the first round and Stokes in the second I'd be very happy.

    C’mon, Man!

Ya gotta put more quotes in when creating a topic of The Athletic. It’s a pay service! Not everybody is willing to fork out cash monthly for a couple worthy articles. The way this reads, doesn’t rate the space it takes up.

    🤦‍♂️

I might be in the minority, but I think the Athletic is actually one of the better pay sites around and it's pretty cheap.  Lots of the TBD crew don't seem to like their Bills writers but they put out very well researched & written articles pretty regularly.  WAY better than what ESPN puts out for less $$$..

  15. I've read & watched a lot about Ojulari and he's really growing on me.  He seemed a bit undersized and more suited for a 3-4 but looked up Jerry's scouting report and the same was said about him.  That could be a pretty similar player comp as well.

On another note, I am stunned by how much is behind ESPN's paywall these days.  That's a massively profitable company and I swear half of their articles are ESPN+ only.

Why Nasirildeen?  Not really a safety, not really a LB and not a CB.  This idea of “the big nickel” seems way overblown to me.  Sure, if you can find a guy like Isaiah Simmons who is big AND has coverage skills it would be nice.  However, searching for an oversized college safety and imparting special skills on him - because you want to see them - is a risky proposition, IMHO.

Owusu-Koramoah is a very, very, very intriguing big nickel prospect.
