  1. “Ivy League schools provide financial aid to students, including athletes, only on the basis of financial need as determined by each institution’s Financial Aid Office. There are no academic or athletic scholarships in the Ivy League.” https://ivyleague.com/sports/2017/7/28/information-psa-index.aspx If you are a top athlete, I am sure that it increases your chances of enrollment.
  2. Rosen has no clue what he’s talking about regarding UA, and suggesting that UA isn’t a strong academic institution is ridiculous. More than 40 percent of UA’s 7,407-member freshman class scored 30 or higher on the ACT, and 38 percent were in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class. The entering class in 2017 carries an average high school grade-point average of 3.72, with 34 percent having a high school GPA of 4.0 or higher. Fifty-one UA students have been named Goldwater Scholars, including four in 2017. The University of Alabama has produced a total of 15 Rhodes Scholars, 16 Truman Scholars, 32 Hollings Scholars and 11 Boren Scholars. UA is perennially ranked a top school for enrolling National Merit Scholars. http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/news/20130206/ua-tops-list-of-freshman-national-merit-scholars
  3. Alabama’s graduation rate for football players is about 84%. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/108298402
  4. I’m not sure what you are saying. These are players that earned their degrees before they used up their football eligibility. Some earnee their undergraduate degree in less than 4 yrs.
  5. By the way, I applaud you and your son. Impressive to be really smart and also be a really good athlete,
  6. Jake Coker was a successful QB at Alabama. He gave up football after a knee injury. He had an undergrad degree in fiance and a Master's degree in Marketing as I recall. I believe that he got his MS while he was playing. He's from Mobile and sounds like Elvis. He works for a lumber company and appears to be doing okay. http://www.dothaneagle.com/sports/alabama/jon-johnson-column-jake-coker-offers-unique-viewpoint-of-nick/article_35040628-8872-11e7-bf5a-1f189f5a35c7.html Thank you, sir.
  7. My understanding is that all financial aid is need based. Do they bend the rules for athletes?
  8. None taken. Just doing my part to combat northeastern elitist ignorance. I don't know when your sister graduated, but UA has done a great job of attracting elite students in recent years. Glad to hear that she is doing so well. Roll Tide! https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/06/education/edlife/survival-strategies-for-public-universities.html
  9. I live near RPI. Some of their players are engineering students, I assume. I recall there was an Amerk player that had an EE degree from RPI. There was football player I knew at SU who was a ChemE major and he had a 3.8 GPA. Not easy though for sure.
  10. I'm sure it's a grind. My school had an elite baseball team. None of the players were in difficult majors that I can recall. One was in accounting and he had to drop baseball. Ever read about Bear Bryant's practices? They were insane. https://www.espn.com/classic/s/dent_junction_08/02/01.html I believe that Saban cares about this players and if they are not succeeding in academics they don't play, Saban continued to stress the importance of finishing school and earning your degree, which he believes should be the ultimate goal for student-athletes. https://www.seccountry.com/alabama/alabama-nick-saban-responds-ucla-qb-josh-rosen
  11. Maybe there is a QB they like in the 2nd round and they can get Evans and Nelson.
  12. Yours was good. Sober ND fans? It must be staged. I usually root for ND...when they aren't playing Alabama. Should we go for Nelson or McGlinchey in the 1st? We need OL help.
  13. ND fans when Alabama whipped them in the national championship.
  14. IVY league schools don't offer athletic scholarships. Stanford isn't technically an Ivy League school, but it's elite. Stanford has good sports teams because they offer athletic scholarships.
  15. College football top 25 ranked by academics (2015). Alabama is ranked 6 for academics. http://time.com/4147924/college-football-top-25-ranked-by-academics/
  16. He also has a Master's degree in Sports Administration. What is Rosen's degree in?
  17. Greg McElroy, a former QB at Alabama, was a Rhodes Scholar finalist and was a grad student while playing football at UA. Last I checked, Rosen hasn't even earned a degree.
  18. Greg McElroy was a Rhodes Scholar finalist. He finished an undergrad degree in marketing and was working on his MS while he was still playing football at UA. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/11/greg_mcelroy_is_a_rhodes_schol.html I never heard him whining.
  19. UA has a top accounting program: Ranked 7th best undergrad and Ph.D. Accounting program in the nation by the 2017 Public Accounting Report, Masters is ranked 8th.
  20. Barrett Jones earned his BS/MS in accounting in 4 yrs. He finished undergrad with a 4.0. Accounting isn't easy especially at a top program like Alabama's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett_Jones
