A "Wildcat Strike" By The NFLPA Coming?
RoyBatty is alive replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I didnt know that, next negotiations the networks are sure as hell going to consider this. And the competition among the Networks have been intense TOO DATE but things change. Who would have predicted the salary cap would decrease this year, very few, almost universally it was expected to keep going up. Networks aren't stupid and aren't charities, if they perceive risk to a players stoppage you can bet anything they will adjust DOWN their bids. You might want to also look at the profitability of the networks, not good. Technology is rapidly evolving and changing the business model. ESPN viewership is way down, and things arent getting any better. Since the return of basketball the ratings have been in a steady decline according to Forbes. A recent Harris poll had 39% of respondents said they are watching fewer games, 32% said more and 28% about the same. Of those watching less, 39% said the NBA has gotten too political, 19% because of the NBA-Chinese connection and 28% said it was boring without fans. That is where I am at, sports is entertainment, if I want to hear about societal problems I will watch the news. -
If You Could Take One Bill to Lunch...

Thurman's fumble lost the second Cowboy Super Bowl for the Bills, i was there for that one and pretty much knew we were going to lose after that play. -
Yeah everything NEw England does is the way to go for sure. So who was the wild child Defensive Tackle the Patriots signed in the past, Albert Haynesworth. How did that work out? Dareus is such a great gem and New England is so smart, why dont they sign Dareus to replace the one and only Beau Allen?

I have to agree with Joe in Winslow, i love what Levy did but he was severely out coached in the Super Bowls, esp the first one. Both Dallas teams were simply better than the Bills so I wont blame those on him. -
LOL She has won two in a row? So far this year she has won $165k, did you make that when you were 26? Yeah she is doing it as a hobby, LOL.

ESPN is in serious trouble. Serious ratings drop and financial issues. I watch ESPN for sports, a little politics/ societal issues are fine but it never ends. I dont care what athletes or former athletes think about the current political environment, they have zero more insight than 99% of the rest of the population. I find their arrogance of their opinions as laughable. And i avoid this website a lot because of non-stop politics, get sick of it. I hardly ever venture into PPP anymore and Shoutbox is almost as obnoxious only on the more liberal side but i periodically show up there and try avoiding politics. So yes if broadcasters decide to babble on and on beyond sports i will turn it off. If you dont believe what i said then why did you even bother asking what I would do? Sorry I have a life outside of football. And if you dont enjoy the crowd effect on a football game so be it, I do. So yes in your very dramatic fashion you can "call BS" on my entire response since of course you know so much about me. Hilarious, -

I wlll watch materially less this year as the "lockdown" or whatever it is i have gotten new hobbies, probably down 50% in my nFL viewing, if there are no crowds, probably down 75% in NFL viewership, if the Bills suck, 95%. Continues this trend i might not watch anything at all after this season.. And i aint the only one. Look at the ratings of all sports, way down, look at ESPN that is rolling over, and Hard Nocks with a "sports starved" populace is down, what 70% from last year. -

No but we are going to stencil 'End Racism" on football fields, that will help. Is there anyone so freaking gullible that thinks if a racist reads "END RACISM" they will say to themselves, gee i never thought about that, I am going to change my hateful heart. -

dead horse 2X "Until there is a MASSIVE migration from football" As i have implied/said multiple times, there was massive migration away from Boxing and Horse Racing and it happened in a matter of a few decades...and it happens to all sports. And CTE and Football are real issues, football was almost banned for being too violent, with liability issues could happen. Football was almost banned 115 years ago. Start paying college players and guess what, they are de-facto employees and think of the Billions in CTE related lawsuits. Oh yeah, there could easily be a massive migration ways from football. Want to see what football could look like, watch the pro bowl. -

OH OF COURSE, NOW IT WAS "SARCASM", lol. Ace, you are the one that brought that up, not me. nice try to put your idiotic comment on me. If you simply cant see how the future of sports popularity has, and can evolve, that is your lack of foresight and intellectual curiously, not mine. -

Talk about comparing apples to oranges!!!!! So you want to compare sports media revenue in the 30s to what is it today in 2020? You do realize there was no TV in the thirties? You do realize that $5 billion today isnt worth anything close to what the inflation adjusted equivalent would be in the 30s. But i am the one comparing apples to oranges, LOL. If you cant understand the simple concept the sports popularity evolves over time that is your problem. -

yeah right, the NFL is bulletproof. That is what my great grandfather said about horse racing and Boxing. -

This mindset that football popularity will never wane and only grow is hopelessly naive. In the 30s the three big sports were horse racing, boxing and baseball. When was the last time you spent money to watch a horse race or a boxing match. Football players are celebrities and football is entertainment and sure as hell is no "necessity". And i agree, most celebrities are full of themselves...as are politicians -

No political agenda here, and not interested in some useless debate about it. LOL, it would be really really sad if in fact, a few fans "need" football players. No sorry, the players earn a living with football, the reality is if anyone 'NEEDS' anyone, it is the players that need the fans.- 181 replies
