No one on TBD has more admirers than CGF. (Well... maybe Lana.) Which is surprising when you think about it. Or creepy, once you think about it a little more. Nevertheless, admirers are admirers! -
They're looking to offset a $109M loss by a mix of cutting service/personnel and increasing prices to save $900M? Filthy stinking capitalists!!! Eh, comrades? Eh? [eyeroll] (It may have to do with making up for multi-year losses.) Not that drastic changes aren't on the horizon for the USPS. The trial balloon of ending Saturday delivery was just a start. As my father said, they should end Wednesday delivery. Mondays are ALWAYS the heaviest flow, as it backlogs from the Saturday mail . Actually ADDING a day for weekend accumulation for even heavier Mondays is beyond stupid. Add in that cutting Saturdays would be getting rid of the time when most people are free and finally have a day to run to the PO and send that package, buy stamps, sign for certifieds, etc. Again, BEYOND stupid to cut Saturdays. Cut Wednesdays! At least there's delivery both days around that so there isn't as much backlog. Because... well... they have to do something. Carrier salaries, gasoline use and vehicle fleet to maintain, reduction in use of standard first-class mail. An uneven flow (they get absolutely hammered this time of year, and it starts in October). It's a crazy system of how your mail gets delivered --- it's like a daily miracle. Despite it all, as much as people might pooh-pooh a stamp raise, we have the best post and, IIRC, the lowest cost post in the world. On edit: Oops, I meant to qualify that my father is a rural carrier substitute for ~15 years, most of that falling under post-retirement. He did industrial warehouse shipping for 30 years before this. He does all routes in multiple towns (try learning and sorting ONE case, people!), and often does them in less time than the full-time carrier. It's good for him. Keeps him engaged. It's a good supplement income. And it's good for the PO. He does the unofficial training for new people. He knows every road. Literally. We have always called him "Rand McNally" and so the PO was a good fit, I guess.

Mrags put the bop in the bop-shoo-bop-shoo-bop, and the ram in the ram-a-lam-a-ding-dong. (But he didn't put the dip in the dip-de-dip-de-dip. That was Henry Kissinger, of all people!) So, let's all shake his hand! -

When Jboyst says "grass-fed beef" that leaves botanical wiggle room for his helping out those of his gals with... ahem... severe glaucoma. Yeah, that's it. Glaucoma! -

You know, for as much guff as crayonz/whatever-his-name-is-now writes, Canadians aren't all THAT bad...! -
I forget if it was college or NFL, but awhile back, there was a ref who called a personal foul for similar. In the announcement over the PA, the ref said, "Personal Foul. Number __. Giving him the business. 15 yards, first down." Found it on YouTube:

pre-lit Christmas tree disaster and solution

A few years ago, a string on ours went out and I filled it in with a small string of the same style bulb. Two years ago, three strings were out, so I filled them in again, but when it came time to take it apart, I decided to cut off all the lights and wiring so I could just independently string light cords around it... and not have to throw away a $250 tree. It took ~ 3-4 hours as I recall. Those suckers really put that together so it wouldn't fall apart. The lights were looped, woven and clipped every which way. But it's done and now I can change the light color if I want, too. (I don't. This house is a warm-white-light/traditional bulb place!) -

November 23, 2013 can't come soon enough....

Should be good. A lot of people are crazy for Tennant's 10th Doctor.... I dunno; there are episodes with him that were perfect ("Don't Blink") but many that were meh.... The writing upgrade with Moffat and longer arcs has been a big upgrade over the episodic stuff. I'm really sorry to see Matt Smith leaving the series in/after(?) the Christmas special. I think his time and his iteration has been really great with the boyish zeal he put into it. -

I watch a LOT of British stuff, and I've heard it on multiple occasions. Again the other night in "The Paradise" was an "sh" in place of a usual "s." Is it also a deal of the Brits saying "shed-ule" instead of the American "schedule" with a hard "c." I heard people say "shhweet!" during college, so it's not like it's a VERY recent thing. -

I know I've heard that pronunciation used in some British movies I've seen, where the S becomes an Sh. i.e. Shh-tupid in one of a remake of "A Room With A View" several years ago on PBS Masterpiece. So, is it a British import? -
Shrader, I bit for that special offer from Gil last time. I had gotten some iTunes cards as gifts and I don't use it for much anything else (well, besides this REALLY cool app called Sky Guide I got the other day), so what the heck. I did get Arnie Pye. I just have a soft spot for the media people, I guess.... The helicopter stuff had been kind of cool, until this update when it just gets in the way when trying to tap things. They're also doing the aliens Konos and ___ in this event, probably as a donut item? I haven't gone overboard on using donuts, just getting things/characters I want. And I don't think there's any real need to use donuts for goo.
-
You get that those high-cash items are for people who don't have anything else to spend $ on, right? I would just say to sit on it so you don't have to scrounge to be able to do a building/task ever again. And once you sell back the houses, you'll have even more $. When your town is crashing people, that's a sign from Jebus that it's time to scale back. :
-
Mrags, your town is making the app crash for me (and, it's only your town doing it). On another note, damn man, I don't see how the game can be any kind of enjoyable with that much house-farming. I'm sorry, bro, but I don't quite get it.... It doesn't take donuts to get goo. I've actually gotten three donuts during this update, twice by popping ghosts and once from the graveyard (from last year's Halloween). I also have a bunch of neighbors; I cleaned out a bunch of inactive neighbors yesterday and added some more from the TSTO EA forum add-me lists: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/forums/show/4127.page;jsessionid=1DA4C7455C1F06437B16566567BAA64A

I just started and finished watching Breaking Bad
UConn James replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I've been mulling it over for these couple of days and sporadically reading this thread. I'm just going to say that the ending scene was SO reminiscent to the final scene of LOST, with Jack walking through the banyan trees with a wound to his lower left abdomen, toward a spot of importance for him. And a last little bit of ultimate happiness(?) that someone who was important in all of that journey was able to get away. Anyone else get that? But, unlike LOST, I did not cry my eyes out here (it was the golden retriever lying down next to Jack as he was dying that did it for me, mainly. I had had to put my own dog down about a year previous and I just lost it seeing that). I don't know, maybe it was just me but like the rest of this series, it wasn't very emotional for me. Even with saying goodbye to Holly, I was stone-faced... much like Walt was in that scene. From the start, it's just been a rote, This is What Happens story... with some top-notch acting. Therein may be the difference b/w a hero and an anti-hero, surely. Walt got his, and I was not sad about it in the least. -
I have 666 donuts. Freaky!
