If you read it, no one was really disputing or bemoaning that things sometime go wrong in war. The fact that he was killed by 'friendly fire' does not diminish his sacrifice. The issue was the baldfaced lying, weeks and months after, when they knew the truth. Same thing they did with Jessica Lynch. Why do they have to manufacture stories like this, for however long they last before the truth comes out? Do they not think the American people can accept the truth?

That is, for parents who don't have to work two or three jobs to pay for rent, food, clothes, etc. They get blamed for not making enough money to provide the basics, then get blamed when they're not there 24/7 to guide their children through life. Something's gotta give. The issue isn't even about giving kids condoms in school. It's that they're not being taught that using condoms, wherever they might get them, is an effective way to prevent STDs and pregnancy. The outright lies that 'Abstinance Only' programs spread are so stupid it would be laughable if it weren't what kids are learning as fact. That oral sex or simply touching someone's genitals can result in pregnancy, among others. Kids aren't stupid. And there's this little thing called the Internet where this info will be checked. Finding out you've been lied to straightfaced isn't the greatest thing in the world, don't you know. It tends to produce more of the reactions given above. I seriously don't care who gives kids the information, as long as they get the truth.

Let me first state that Pat Tillman is a true American hero. He rejoined and went to Afghanistan at the same time my brother was there. For all my misgivings about Iraq, Afghanistan was the right war, one that we and now the Pakistanis have largely abandoned. Individual soldiers deserve our praise but the machination of the military is what people dislike. Link. Why is there a need to outright lie and cover up everything that might shed a bad light on leadership? Why does this smack of a PR move by the Army? I think most Americans can accept the truth and that 'friendly fire' happens. Why lie? Which included lying to a U.S. senator. Another question I've been walking around with for awhile, why was Pat Tillman let back into the military given his financial status? My other brother who is in Air Force SF and Ravens has said a few times over the years they do not let in millionaires b/c "they're too much of a security risk." Had Mr. Tillman not signed a huge contract at the time?

I get the distinction you're trying to draw. I guess it all depends on what your definition of a "terrorist" is. Is it to simply strike fear in the hearts of the general populace? To kill a set number of people (like a serial killer must kill three people with a prolonged rest period b/w)? An attempt to kill gov't agents or advocacy to overthrow said gov't? We'll probably never know exactly what the BDs were going to do. I fervantly support logical gun rights. But those people weren't just interested in protecting themselves from intruders; they were seriously up to no good and acted at the behest of one crazy MFer. I truly think at the very least it would have been a bank robbery to suuport their activities and at the worst, a Columbine-style takeover of an entire town to prove some kind of 'point'. They weren't ever terrorists, as such, but it's 99.9999 percent they would have been.

That's the very same thing that has me befuddled and nervous at the Bush Doctrine. What happens when other countries get together and decide to preemptively attack us on a large scale because they think that we're going to premptively attack them because we think they're going to preemptively attack us....? This is true in every country, the percentages are basically the same no matter the parenting styles, the government programs, etc. The area where there is a difference is in teen pregnancy rates; those that give information about the use of condoms have lower rates and fewer abortions. As for those griping about paying for them to be handed out (in my school, they actually weren't foisted upon us in "here's one for you, and you..." fashion) in schools, a large portion in the schools that even do this are provided free by the companies. And in spite of all of this sex-pushing education, a slightly-left of center upbringing, and graduating from one of those big liberal brainwasher universities, I'm still the big V (OK, I'm ready for the jokes ). Imagine that! But when I do, at least I'll be informed. Do AO advocates also support not teaching the Food Pyramid? Kids are going to be eating for the rest of their lives, but I guess it's not the schools' place to show them the information about healthy diets....

So obviously he's a great eluder of the rush. Watch the games and see what he brings to his team when he's out there. Wins. From everything I've seen, J.P. is a gamer, pure and simple. If I'm a captain at recess, a guy like him is my first pick.

1 - He was woefully unprepared b/c this was a truly last-minute substitution (then again, it takes some prep time to actually fly the family to the studio). 2 - He'd been hitting the sauce, or his latest 20-something wife, prior to putting his suspenders on. 3 - He was fishing for the reaction that he wanted. And bear in mind, readers, that as stated he is a talk show host, not a journalist (membership to the fourth estate is claimed by a lot of people). 4 - He was really trying, but he's that washed up. 5 - Half of the battle is having an interesting guest. It sure doesn't sound like this was the problem. My bet's on 3. The best bona fide interviewer I've seen lately is Charlie Rose on PBS & 60 Minutes. He does a good job of fleshing out facts and interesting details, and letting the subject speak and direct where it goes rather than it being pre-fab to some kind of destination the interviewer wants.

Agree with this. No matter how hard I try, I just don't see him as the Robert Langdon bookish-AHA! type. But he's surprised a lot of people by doing other roles no one thought he'd pull off. It boggled my mind why Kerry never mentioned that buzzword from the 2000 campaign (that is probably the biggest reason Bush got in the White House) and say 'Told ya so.' He let Bush define him. Run a better candidate in '08 (FYI, it will not be Hillary) and I'll see if I vote for them after balancing all their schtick. I don't like us playing World Cop either. So, is it a crime in March Madness when teams from weak conferences or pull an upset in the conference championship are one of the 64 (65, actually) while another deserving team can get bumped out b/c of it? The Big East is weaker than usual this year, thanks to depatures. Next year, several teams from Conference-USA are going to be joining, including Louisville which is in the middle of the Top 25.... UConn is up-and-coming.... Do they currently compete on the same level as the SEC or ACC? Probably not. But I also don't think it's fair to put them out of it b/c they don't play all of the powerhouses so they can get points in the BCS. That said, I don't think it's fair for Texas to be relegated to no chance of a national championship with their record. And it all comes back to the BCS and a college football sponsorship relationship that they're addicted to like a crack ho. What's the solution? I'd actually like something similar to the basketball bracket with 32 teams, where each team just needs to do one thing -- win -- and they can't blame anyone if they don't. That system has its critics but a lot less than B©S. This, of course, will never happen b/c I don't think the Continental Tires of the world are going to want to sponsor a first round game. Or will they? And the feasibility is questionable. They can only play one game a week and there are only so many weeks, unless you favor extending the season to 16-17 weeks.
