When a flag is fully flying, that means at least 30 mph winds. Hope you've got the wood stove going.

A great idea that will never see fruition. They need to push the NFL brand and player's names and faces. $ $ $.

Peerless continues to show his worth
UConn James replied to duey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love that sentence. Peerless is the ultimate Leon. Maybe his experience will influence the next #2 who thinks he's worth #1 money. He probably would have earned more money over the course of a career in Buffalo at a lesser contract, than his 1-June-salary-cap-cut arse will ever get elsewhere. -
(OT) TIME Person of the year
UConn James replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
PPP. FYI, Time doesn't select POTY by who they like the most or think is the greatest guy. It's whoever made the most impact on the world stage in the past year, regardless of the good or evil they might have done to earn that distinction. As testament, they selected Komehni(?) several years ago, and Zarqawi was in the running this year. -
How many cold weather games did bayou-boy Brett Favre play in before Green Bay? Willis carries the rock much better than Travis. No offense, but it's going from Top 10 to Top 3. I'll take that upgrade. Weather isn't an excuse. The other team isn't playing in a plastic cocoon, don't you know.

"Illegally Linked Site" is what I get.... Scott, you above anyone else should know the rules.

No, I didn't. Dobies are nice too, tho.

It's all in good fun when you've heard all the stories I have as a quasi-chronicler (maybe I should start a blog). If you don't laugh, you effin' cry.

If that's true, it explains a lot about the Marines' use of the bulldog as a mascot.... Back to the original question, tho. Realize that any dog has the potential to bite if they've been raised by people who just don't care. But also, don't assume the worst. I would recommend you go there with your kids and introduce them to the dog by putting out a clenched fist, in a nonthreatening manner, to let the dog sniff it and get acclimated to them. A lot of problems arise when dogs are just too overexcited to meet and sniff new things. If it jumps, raise your knee to block it out of the way or give it a chest thump and say Down! Don't let it get the idea that it can do that to you, b/c the first impression is big. Get it out of the way in a calm, confident and stern but friendly manner. Continue to watch them closely, tho.

Let's nip this in the bud. A. No matter what kind of pull you think the Clintons have in the party, no way does Hillary get the nod even if she does run. I'm thinking it will probably come down to Bill Richardson, the gov in Arizona and Wes Clark part Deux, after we've gotten a chance to get used to him, and if he stays in the political mix, which I hope he does. If he was the nominee, he would've won by about 50 in the e.c. B. Jeb Bush won't be running, unless he's aching to be a pinata. His five-time loser daughter's ongoing coke habit and the preferential treatment she's gotten in Florida will crush him in a national election. Nevermind what other skeletons he's got in the closet that will be dragged out. On second thought, go ahead and run Jeb in '08!

I think you should send this to TMQ on the NFL.com site. He loves to make comment on this kind of inane crap that shows the NFL's minute bungles. Possible haiku: Browns amass seventeen 'Aborted play' describes effort Take the nine yards Or maybe someone can come up with something like 'Nine yards into the ether'....

No way Nigent lasts until round 3. Maybe not even to round 2. I'd be willing to spend a #1 on him, if needed, if we had it.... You can't pass up the opportunity to get a Vinatieri-type accuracy AND power kicker. Maybe we could then put away the rosary beads when trying a figgie.

OK, Im watching "LOST" - 1st Episode
UConn James replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On the beach, Hurley was bloodied.... But I did notice that Locke was sitting right behind the black lady in the scene where Jack was taking drink. He looked pretty active going after the O2 mask for a guy supposed to be in a wheelchair.... and don't they have special seating for disabled persons? Something doesn't jive with his story. And notice how everyone gets a weird feeling around him? -
What I haven't been seeing much lately
UConn James replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's amend that to a cold, rainy day. "Oh dear. We'll have to get you out of those clothes and over by the fire...." -
Save Us From Beavers & Oil Paint
UConn James replied to Bob Lamb's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The first item is ridiculous. Next, it's going to take a permit and a visit by a botany inspector to tell you if you can plant hydrangeas in your front yard. These people with Napolean complexes who get appointed to boards think they're entitled to tell other people what nonsensical things they have to do in matters that go beyond their authority or knowledge. Not that it's any different than Reagan imposing a federal ban on lawn darts. How many people are so stupid as to stab themselves with pens and pencils? Those are banned.... But as far as the second goes, exotic animal trafficking is a big problem. If it's not a domesticated species, they should be left in the zoos or better yet, the wild. Most people have neither the money, time or will to properly care for them, and the animals suffer as a result. This probably comes on the heels of a number of incidents with crocidiles let free in the sewers and Central Park, and that guy with the tigers in his closet NYC apartment. This opinion held by the writer shows his sheer knowledge of animals.... -
The problem with that logic is the majority decides what is "right." If ID becomes the norm in elementary and high schools, it becomes what entire generations think and believe. Who's there to tell them they're wrong? The creationism movement is comparable to the borg collective. And someday, when you least expect it, your kid walks in the door and says, 'Hey you know what? Maybe blah blah blah....' We don't need Christian madrassas in this country. If people want their kids to learn it, that's what Sunday School is. Science class is about studying, hypothesizing and experimenting with observable fact.

Is Gregg Williams the O-Coord or D-Coord?
UConn James replied to bartshan-83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You mean, UCan't? Graduated last year. Those kinds of losses will happen over the course of a season to every team, esp. now that the talent pool is evening out more and more. Even for the women's game. It'll be a couple of years before another major push in the tourney. A few years back I caught a few ND games w/ McGarrity and you had to respect them b/c they played smart and could shoot and do the classic lay-up rather than slam and Look-at-me ball. I prefer the fundamentals that went the way of the dodo b/c they haven't raised the hoop. -
Is Gregg Williams the O-Coord or D-Coord?
UConn James replied to bartshan-83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ugghh. G'luck, laddy! If I never have to do that again it'll be too soon. Best advice I ever got, ignored and learned the hard way in a frosh history class, then used and flourished.... don't change your first answer on a multiple guess exam unless you are absolutely positively sure it's wrong. And eat fish for omega-3s. 3.925. -
Living in the land of All Patsies All The Time, I can vouch that McCown played like ass vs. the Pats last week. Underthrows, overthrows, off-to-the-side-throws, right-to-the-hands-of-the-opponent-throws.... He had one good pass that went for a TD b/c the Pats DBs either had a serious brainfart, or they were just pitying the guy. I don't call that "decent."

Why Cincinnati will still play hard
UConn James replied to Grant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lest we forget, these are relatively the same bunch that took us to OT last year. Say what you will about injuries to Moulds and Henry, etc. But they showed today against the Pats, too, that they're not going to roll over. If Palmer's knee injury is serious, Kitna has an element of surprise. Rudi Johnson, that WR with the long-arse name, Chad Johnson.... Better not take this team lightly. -
Exactly. Seven times out of 10, those balls get picked up at/roll down to the 1. It's a MUCH different drive b/w starting at the 10 and starting at the 1. Want to give a DL motivation (especially one as good as CLE)? That's the way. A sack or holding call in the end zone and the game turns.

Yeah, yeah. Where're the Hooters pics? -
I was thinking of voting for him. But then I saw the Lando Calrisian avatar and figured he'd be way too soft on terror.
