The more times I hear what a bargain Travis Henry is, the more I have visions of him as a 40-year-old with a bad limp in both legs, homeless, and wearing the same pair of Buffalo Bills practice sweats every day.... His one-year extention on the cheap (the preseason after his Pro Bowl appearance?) was brought about by a situation where he was apparently broke. Travis, let's put it kindly, has never been the stickiest stamp in the book. And I hate to say, but if the Bills had given him a $4 million contract, he would've been sitting next to a pile of Pet Rocks the next day. He really needs someone to help him manage his finances, and perhaps to check IDs of the girls he brings home. BTW -- sulking on the end of the bench with arms folded across your chest is "professional"?

Looking for a Bills Bar in CT -- Any Help?
UConn James replied to AdkJim's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I didn't know they had that on the BB site. For reference, Cheshire is about 25 miles from New England's Rising Star and Danbury.... you prol'ly don't want to go that far unless you're on your way to see old friends in NYC. -
is anyone else sick to their stomach?

If getting sick to your stomach before a big game worked for Jim Kelly, it works for me! RALPH! -
Looking for a Bills Bar in CT -- Any Help?

I'm not in the loop on where all the fans here in the state congregate, but "Coach's" which is owned by Jim Calhoun, has Sunday Ticket.... Link. -
Donahoe quote on "Ask Him Yourself"
UConn James replied to ajzepp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, over the last 10 years, the NFL essentially added the Ravens, Texans, Panthers and Jaguars while not amending the playoff structure. Why not add another wildcard playoff spot for each conference that will play the #2 seed on wildcard weekend? That would give the #1 seed a true reward over the other teams. -
That 1st rounder doesn't seem so bad...

He just has to sign that 50-feet-restraining order against Troy Vincent.... -
Hey, hey, hey! Some redneck getting off on the dress is for AFTER the prom.

In ten years, add in 'the death of 5,000 soldiers' and this will be an apt description of Iraq. We don't have flooding and droughts in Texas, energy crisis in California, wildfires in the West, hurricanes in the East that should take precedence over sending billions overseas to feed people who will be killing us tomorrow for our generosity?

Bettis is questionable for this weekends
UConn James replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bettis has been a Buffalo-killer in the past few games vs. Pitt. No matter if everyone thinks he's in decline, or he's a back-up. Whatever. He always put up big numbers. It's just something about a back that has that particular combination of speed, size and a low center of gravity that is hard to tackle. An injury to him, not to wish for anything serious tho, would be good news for the playoff chances. A seven-game win streak is great but it should worry some people that this situation is ripe for a let-down. Streaks come to an end. -
Dems Rethinking Abortion Stand
UConn James replied to Chef Jim's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Uhm, with numbers like three-quarters of Americans in favor of a woman's right to choose, this isn't an issue that needs revision for them. The election was won on security, with the "don't change horses in midstream" argument (tho, people maybe should have considered that this president will be looking to ford deeper and rougher bodies of water in the next term). The solution for the Dems isn't by becoming Republican-lite. -
I can't wait to see the NY tabs Monday am
UConn James replied to Greg de'Ville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If they lose against the Seagulls, Chadwick will have some time to deliver journalism lectures on what a privilege it is for the NY sports media to be covering every word that comes out of his mouth. When he takes the silver spoon out, that is. Last time I looked, the NFL and the media have a symbiotic relationship, aka mutual parasitism. -
She reported a couple-few days ago that she did. Even used some less-than-lady-like words on the phone.

Some great questions that no one here is bothering to answer. In certain similar cases, the high court has ruled that some such acts are immediate threats to the person and go beyond the parameters of free speech. Does this apply to the Confederate flag? A case could be made that it represents a body politic that supported slavery and all the trappings that went along with it including whippings, lynchings, etc. Another case could point to the fact that it was on top of the General Lee and has lost the old connotation. Then again, I think that second argument is full of stevestojan.... Yet another skank looking for a way to shock people and get her name in the paper. Congratulations, honey, you got it. Now try getting any kind of management job and see how many employers want to be behind the 8 ball in a discrimination lawsuit. "Freedom of speech is like the freedom to jump off your roof and fly. You can try it, but there's going to be consequences." - ?

WA Supreme Court Says "Count 'Em"
UConn James replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Great quote in the red. By the Rep. lawyers take on the issue, someone could walk into the voting station, steal the box of paper ballots, drive off with them, and if not caught that day they won't count. There's no difference b/w this scenario and some jackoff WA polling place worker either being irretrievably stupid or illegally tampering with/"misplacing" the ballots. Count every vote that was cast by a legitimate voter. Whoever gets the most votes wins. That's how this works. But it's kind of sad when you have to realize that this kind of stupid crap happens everywhere and we never hear about it. -
The only point I want to make among the detritus.... Repubs spoon out a lie and people too lazy to pay attention or research things gobble it up. It's amazing how many times I need to point this out. This was one of the issues where Clinton broke from the Dems; yeah, some voted for it to go along w/ the Pres, or for their own reasons. Many didn't. NAFTA was essentially the reason Perot ran, to give conservatives who didn't want to sell out their country another choice. Washington Watch Archives

Stop-loss is a big reason why my brother got out of active duty right after they took him out of it. (An a-hole, dumbschitt commander was another.) Still does Reserves, tho. Opposite effect is right. A lot of people will leave just for spite. This is being shown in the current recruiting and retention rates.

I think everyone should switch their avatar....

So, y'all are saying they should change the name to the International Guard? I liked the conservatives better (and considered myself one) before they flip-flopped on this....

This is an honest question, where are the unnecessary layers? What are the job titles that get eliminated? And how do you fill the holes they leave? I'm sure there are in the higher reaches of state govts of boards, etc. But this doesn't break the bank or provide much relief in a budget. Who takes the place of whatever work they do? It's kind of hard to get qualified people to just volunteer for a full-time job. On the town/city level, most boards of ed are comprised of volunteers or they get a nominal sum, to give a broad direction and oversight of expenses. Are there too many principals? Secretaries? Nurses? PhysEd teachers....?

Wasn't trying to put words in your mouth. That was a general comment. Then again, what's the alternative to public education? Private education, where the results will be the same. But it'll be private industry, so that'll make it great. The point is not about "throwing money at" a problem. That's not the solution. The point being made was that the system in place takes money away b/c of a situation that is out of the control of teachers. In the face of that, the incentive is high to cheat and tweak numbers. Do you actually know what the "bureaucracy" does? Or are you just railing b/c they earn a salary for doing the foundation work that no one sees? It's like people who complain about CEOs and VPs. Only you don't usually go into education to get rich.... Maybe we should just give the $4K each directly to the students so they can conduct their own education. No administrative waste then. I'm sure it won't be spent on video games and Bugles.

It's amazing how people think that every govt program is a waste of money while industry runs such a tight ship. It's funny when you're looking for help in the store or going to fill an order how the person behind the desk looks to be busy. Then s/he stands up, and the mirror behind them reveals that they play solitare very stupidly too. Gov't, military, industry, consumer spending, whatever. When human beings are involved, there will be a roughly equal level of (in)efficiency. Govt is a convenient whipping boy tho.

Donovan Darius better get suspended
UConn James replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is initially what I thought. Until I saw Darius' follow-through from the opposite angle. Not only was there no attempt to pull back, he followed through on the clothesline as the guy was almost to the ground. He didn't even kneel/hover over Fergeson to see if he was OK. It was deliberate. -
Muhsin Muhammad a FA after this season
UConn James replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trust your scouting dept. Develop the talent we have rather than sign an expensive FA at a spot that doesn't need it. -
Or the Christie of today. He hit a 53-yarder for the Gints several weeks ago.... The fact that there aren't many really good, consistent kickers left anymore makes a Mike Nugent that much more valuable.

That's going to be the day I shoot my TV.
