Actually, your point was my point. You're assuming there's a dispute where there isn't one. Whatever. Let me just point out this happened in a state where the gov. comes from a family that is more or less gunowner-friendly. And he fails to enforce the laws. It boggles the mind.

I opened the first, which showed an ancient Iraqi woman grinning while getting frisked by a female soldier. Maybe it was the best time she's had in years. It may be different for you, but most people don't enjoy when their home is searched by ten Marines who rifle through your underwear drawer and piss on the toiletseat. If you believe 1/4 of the military's PR machine you're kidding yourself. Since read through the others. And if you're trying to say none of these types of things are out there, like the guy doing rehab, you must not read very widely. There are "positive" stories out there in the real media, I remember many, but they tend to get lost in the shuffle that goes on in all our heads and are second fiddle to 'if it bleeds, it leads.'

Took the words out of my mouth. They can also leave the milk right out on the counter.

With the Alar pesticide, that didn't even do any good. Organic? Maybe it's better for some qualities, but it's worse in others. I don't know, I've had nutrition and botany courses and my philosophy is just Well, what're you gonna do? Not eat?

I'm seriously skeptical as to "this thing"'s (if that = Iraq) ultimate success in removing more terrorists from the face of the earth than it creates. So, I guess in your world it logically follows that I want both of my brothers to die to prove that this skepticism is right, yeah? I consider it a point of honor that I've never used the red emoticon, but I really wanted to right here. Think before you post your crappy stereotypes, man. I'm not saying this to brag or belittle but I've forgotten more about the subject of this thread than you guys will ever know.

That's nothing to brag about, either. -
Apples are designed to provide sugars and nutrients to the ground where the seeds will grow. There's also pesticides on them that no amount of washing will get off (See: Alar in the early 90s, which was the same molecular structure as rocket fuel (Note that it's since been banned)). Does that mean we shouldn't eat them?

Let's sign Orlando Pace. And Peyton Manning. And Tom Brady. And Dante Culpepper. And Tiki Barber. And Edgerrin James. And Jerome Bettis. And Corey Dillon. And any other expensive Name Player anyone can think of. That way, we'll be awesome.

I highly recommend "Dispatches" by Michael Herr to reveal a bit about the other side. Excerpted: Different war, same kind of Thumbs-up from the Mission.

31 Marines Just Perished in a Chopper Crash
UConn James replied to Mark VI's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's a close corollary when you compare them with a thousand-yard stare, I admit, but when the details are focused, it's a lot different. And we didn't attack Greenland b/c there was a rumor that a man named Adolf may or may not have vacationed there in the 1890s. How's Vietnam doing? B/c it was the same rationale for getting involved there. If I'm selfish b/c I don't want our soldiers to die and hundreds of billions spent for a country that should sweep its own doorstep then so be it. My dad, who's a hardcore Repub, says that the first person who suggests war as an answer to a problem ought to be executed. And the second... and the tenth. There would be less of an inclination for it, and for sure it would only happen when absolutely necessary for our own immediate security. Trying to base your present action for a scenario 20 steps ahead will backfire on you. Trying to impose democracy in Iraq in the long run will be like shoveling sh-- against the tide. So, respectfully, the wishes of the admin are more or less in the right place, but you can wish in one hand.... The whole thing is like GFs and their pillows or teddybears on the bed. You can take them off and put them in the closet. The next day they're back, and you'll do this every day into eternity. -

That's funny. There's a lot of people who charge that the media props this administration up by not asking tougher questions. It would really surprise me if that, as you put it, "fact", wasn't out there somewhere, or printed/mentioned if they had space in the paper or time on the air. I can tell you that a headline like "Norm Johnson's house burns down" will always run over one that reads "Stan O'Toole's house not on fire." The squeaky wheel gets the grease. It's not like the media wants guys die to have a headline, or telekinetically caused the crash. They simply report after the fact that it happened and when, where, why.... If you have a problem with a collection of facts, I really don't know what to tell you other than that you may want to rethink your opinion/conclusions you draw. -

My brother's entire Ranger class went down with injuries (one of them was paralyzed) when some asshat decided to send them out in parachutes at less than the required jump altitude. That didn't get reported in the media either. I wonder why. Couldn't be the hush-hush mentality, I'm sure. The military isn't required to jump up and down and yell 'Hey, we !@#$ed up! Come check it out!' and oftentimes they don't. You're complaining about lack of coverage yet when things like it are reported, you complain that even tho it's fact, they're wildly blowing it out of proportion. Pick a side. -
They work better when they're actually used. If you remember there was a guy who kidnapped, raped and murdered a girl in Florida a couple of years ago. The one with the videotape clear as day that he dragged her off. That guy was convicted for a mandatory five-year prison sentence in addition to the other charges. Somehow, he was on that security camera three years later (and he wasn't a fugitive escapee) with his hand around the girl's neck.

Yes, what a shock. And when you look at which presidents have done that the most since WWII got us to about the current political spectrum, people might be careful in how they vote. As ever, the pols doing the most bitching about it are the ones guilty of it in a 3-1 ratio, only when the Dems did it, they actually paid for it rather than getting us into massive interest payments that would even make a college kid shake their head. I've been slowly pulled over to what was formerly the Dark Side. Went to the air show up at Westover this past autumn, he and his GF are in security. That was truly awesome! Get frequent flyovers here in the NE corner of the state b/c it gives them nice beneath-radar contour training b/c we've got trees and not much else here in the Last Green Valley.

Oh dear. Think of about 30 families when you go to bed tonight.... and then hope that their loss somehow, someday, is worth it in the grand scheme of things. -
KD, I'm sad to report I was being entirely rational. (And I don't drink coffee. ) The relevant passage: I'd say C-130s and C-5s are roughly comparable to huge, lumbering airliners (When I first saw each of these in person I was like, Yeah right, this thing's never going to get off the ground!). My brother's plane took fire during takeoff out of Iraq last year and that red glow of the flares and other countermeasures, combined with an excellent pilot (who actually was flying Air Force One in Oct-Nov), were the only things that saved their butts. It can work in commercial airliners, it's a question of cost.

Why don't you let him out? -
PPP. Who needs anti-missile technology on commercial planes? Dept of Homeland Security, Texas branch, would rather spend the money on RVs exclusively used to transport demolition-derby lawn mowers. Could you imagine the horror if the terra-rists' lawn-mower-destructing technology surpassed ours? Who will the GOP blame for big government now?

Maybe that there's a whole world beyond "Death to all infidels," to stop blaming other people for their own problems, and that they shouldn't rely on us to clean up their mess for them?

No, really. J.P. had to pee during it. (sift through the Bills-bashing). It's a fuggin' standardized test. Has as much bearing as SAT on how you're going to do in college. Read: not much. -
