  1. Mazel Tov! Garrison Keillor's ode to premies (and bear in mind, esp. for the meaning of "crappie," he's Minnesotan ).... I believe it's called "Jeffrey's Poem." When I first saw you, kid, you were tiny and thin And slimy and red and your head was mooshed in. I said to your mother, "He looks kind of sloppy, And a pound fifteen ounces ain't that big for a crappie." But something about you, the look in your eyes, Said you fully intended to grow to full size. They slapped your backside and you let out a cry, And I said, "We will keep him, at least we shall try." Some babies are born in nine months, by the clock, Some babies are born, and they sit up and talk. Some babies are born and no doctor is there, But some babies come in on a wing and a prayer. Poor little fetus as big as my hand. Poor little fish thrown up on dry land. Who came in late March though you had till July, Too small to live and too precious to die. They shipped you across to the big Neonatal Intensive Care Unit's computerized cradle. And attached you to wires and stuck you with tubes Monitored closely by digital cubes. And thanks to the latest neonatal therapeusis And regular basting with greases from gooses And your Mama's milk intravenously fed You did not fade away, you grew up instead. We'll always remember the months that you spent With tubes everywhere and hooked up to the vent And the trach in your neck, the wires attached, Sweet little baby only half hatched. I'll always remember each doctor and nurse in The NICU who helped make you a person. The kid who crash-landed, was carried away, Survived, and turns two years old today.
  2. Go to the tent aisle, and ask the gentleman for one that reads, Sleeps 8. Happy B-day.
  3. Then, there's the times when I've witnessed BBall and FBall players go into the library to pretend they're reading articles on Shakespeare only to really be furtively look at porn. The NCAA should really come up w/ an option to compensate players the equivalent of tuition for athletes who just aren't interested in anything to do with scholarship. The classroom really suffers from people who don't want to be there and the sh-- they pull; and yes, I was in some "Jock-heavy" classes. That, or require much higher academic standards than being able to write and fill in the bubbles for your name on the SAT. What goes on now to keep players in when any other student would be thrown out is an effin' joke.
  4. I was thinking the same thing, only w/ a added. The Giants from the first believed that Dayne was a big, power RB. But w/ Dayne, it's like they bought a bottle of shampoo, and when they opened it, toothpaste came out. Dayne has the size to be a power rusher, but that's not how he does or can play. Fassel and Coughlin were both exasperated that he wasn't the type of player his size dictated he should be. That and Dayne has been something of a head case, thinking he's all that and a bag o' chips and what everyone else is saying is wrong. Maybe Shanahan will get something out of him.... Probably not.
  5. Hey! I resemble that!!.... No, actually, my stickwork's good. Right top-shelf is my only weakness, like everyone else in the world who's right-handed. All this aside, a bigger net, smaller pads (or rather, enforcing the rules re: this), and either a bigger ice surface or getting rid of the two-line offsides would make the game great. If the players can pull their heads outta their butts.
  6. A relative has an '02 Shadow Spirit 750. Says it rides nice, handles nice. Good cruiser. He's itching to ride, but just waiting for them to sweep the roads up here.... "I don't want a pickle / I just wanna ride on my motor-sickle."
  7. I hate it. But then again, I play goal.
  8. God protects drunks and fools. He qualifies on both counts. We don't convict celebrities in this country, don't you know.
  9. Yeah, I have flashbacks to Jeff Burris when I watch punt returns, but that's like always using the bad china while the new set is in the attic. What's the point of having a guy like that if you're not going to use him where he can make a big impact? He can't get hurt on any given play at CB? Can't keep him preserved in amber, yaknow, and if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen.
  10. Just shows how much of an impact can be made when you devote some resources to the ST rather than leaving the backups to learn and fend for themselves. I mean this especially for London Fletcher's blocking and having Clements returning punts, which he did awesomely in college, iirc. DeHaven always seemed to rely heavily on Tasker and Pike to take care of things and it all fell apart when they were declining and retired. Wouldn't mind seeing a 2nd devoted to one particular further upgrade....
  11. Other than possible exchanging the salary of Henry and Shelton, and restructurings to make that do-able, I'd say the Bills are done w/ signings until the draft, which w/o a 1st, most of which won't break the bank and won't count toward the cap. I think it was a very productive and rationally-approached signing period. For all the guff TD gets in the media and on this and other boards, he did a very good job.
  12. At least it's salad dressing and pies instead of bullets. Part of the left's problem is that some of their better leaders have a propensity of getting shot by the right. If you can't win the war of ideas.... My Nostradamus prediction is this gets sent to PPP inside the half-hour.
  13. Went to a match shoot last night for the first time in about 5 years and scored a 205/300. My slow fire was nice but rapid fire was almost laughable.... Any advice to get a steadier hand w/ the High Standard or is your main expertise in shooting cats instead of targets?
  14. Sweet. Take her out for some ice cream!
  15. There are many ways it could be explained. People cross the borders every day and every way. Also bear in mind that drug trafficers don't always follow how everyone else does things. Just like there's many countries where the importer will only accept their home country's money. Not out of the question, esp. w/ the reach of this show. All of the nature maps say there's no way that water mocassin snakes come into this area of CT, but I've g'dam well seen them. Like nature, commerce finds a way to cross borders that some say it can't. But for the plane to go all the way from Africa to the middle of the Pacific!?? That's kind of odd and there's definitely something weird going on there. Funny, I thought the ep would answer some questions when all it did was raise more. Have the feeling that it'll do this up until the series finale. But I'm game as long as Kate keeps dropping trou to go swimming or bathe.
  16. Locke just said the money was Nigerian. Not necessarily that the plane's point of origin was Nigeria. Kind of how the US Dollar is used in Mexico and a lot of other countries.
  17. That's the concept of centralized power. He's the King of Pyongyang, but as you get out into the rural parts of the country where people are starving and the state isn't as omnipresent, there is less control. Until control is moved there in the form of ThoughtPolice, etc. KJI is very good at doing this, but the govt is going to implode sooner rather than later. Things Fall Apart. I concede that it's not exactly the same as Saddam's control of Baghdad and vicinity and tribal outside of that, but it's correlative.
  18. Nevermind that if Iraq indeed had the WMD that the admin said they had, it certainly would not have been "bloodless." That they counted on Saddam using chemical/biological weapons but it didn't happen isn't reason to jump up and down clapping about the decision after the fact.
  19. I looked at Saddam the same way as Kim Jong Il. A guy who has a strong amount of control over a small region of the country and less to none the further you got from the main city. The good thing about it was he was basically isolated, until the invasion which drew together the nation (much as it did ours after 9/11). The inspections were thorough and were working. The idea that we had to attack NOW never sat right with me b/c that's the argument someone uses when they want you to make a decision based on less than the facts. I didn't advocate involvement w/ Iraq much as I didn't advocate being World Cop in Somalia and Bosnia. And how I don't advocate attacking NK and causing a tide of nationalism that would make the daily parades seem like standard maneuvers. It's actually sad to see the Repubs who once said Live and Let Die (But If You So Much As Come Near Us, You're Effin' Toast) change places with the bleeding heart Liberals. Saddam killed his own people. Wah. Finland doesn't attack us b/c the BTK serial killer was a Town Dog Catcher. The humanitarian reasons were the only ones I ever actually bought as being the truth, and they stunk.
  20. Ken, that's a great analysis of what needs to happen, especially removing politicization and preconceived notions. Operate on facts and rational responses to them rather than feelings and the Risk board mentality of "Iraq info was wrong, but hey, it's all good...."
  21. When we don't have all of the information, or we can't KNOW for SURE, then the best thing to do is be conservative and let Terri live. When we don't have all of the information, can't KNOW for SURE, but can overfund what has become a bleeding heart mission b/c of the lack of other purpose, then the best thing is to be conservative. And KILL, KILL, KILL some schmoes b/c they wear an Iraqi uniform and want their country to be sovereign no matter who wears the funny hats.
