  1. Mr. Carpio was in the news again this morning. He beat a correctional guard that was in his cell for a transfer, and broke a bone near his eye, broke his jaw, and cracked a vertabrae. Two other guards were treated for minor injuries. I'm sure the mother will say it's police brutality.
  2. Hate to agree, after having read all the stuff about Flutie, but yeah. If not for the refs giving one last Dan Marino Sympathy F--- in Habana Norte, they might have gone to the Show.
  3. How about if we did away with Congressional pensions and their own cushy private social security system and put them on the same Social Security plan as the rest of us? Might light a fire under their butts. And while we're at it, make those things as well as Congr. pay raises a national ballot issue rather than letting the foxes in the henhouse to do as they please? At the end of the day, Bush's Social Security initiative and failure will be his very own National Health Care. I'm not taking glee in this. SS is the biggest Ponzi scheme in the history of the world. He saw a problem and tried to fix it. The problem is, no answer exists that a majority of the country will accept. It's just something he must've slept through in POLS: You don't touch the third rail.
  4. Mmm, gotta love a lenient judge who's in the pockets of the Make-A-Wish people. There was a story on last night on a RI station where a girl with cancer wanted a swimming pool in her back yard. And the fight was that the neighborhood only allowed in-ground pools. And then they showed the houses --- $500,000 McMansions. I'm not against raising money to fly a kid out to practice w/ their favorite sports team or go to a ballgame, as those costs are nominal. This one drew my ire tho. There are kids w/ cancer who don't have FOOD and they have to give the girl a swimming pool that her parents will then be able to collect on when they sell the house? Uhh, I don't think I'm going to be making a donation to this charity from now on.
  5. Except that this bill is under the auspices, and in the public mind, of being expressly to fund the wars. Probably b/c it doesn't exist yet. The funding is to create it, which of course, will later need more funding to operate it. Funny how the Southern Repubs always piss and moan about federal spending, but they're not shy about feeding at the trough or putting these rats on appropriation bills.
  6. I don't think it'd take much to be as good as the Fuggin' SOLJA himself. All Everett will need to do is run his mouth off about how great he is and fracture his fibula in the second game.
  7. Yeah, there's a lot of money in there for Iraq and Afghanistan, however you feel about them and the funding for such.... But: - $10M to repair a flooded library at the University of Hawaii, - $2 million to fund something called the Southeast Regional Cooling, Heating and Power and Bio-Fuel Application Center - $25 million for a fish hatchery in Montana. - $500,000 for the Oral History of the Negotiated Settlement project at the University of Nevada, Reno. - $4 million for capital debt service for the Fire Sciences Academy in Elko These are the "emergencies" that just need to be funded, now-now-now and don't ask any questions? And that even if you have the stones to vote against it, you're 'Soft on terror'? Whatever.
  8. He already has. See the 2 figgies he missed against the Jests in a 3-point loss. Just that no one remembers missed kicks in the second or third quarter, and there are those Lindell apologists who at the time said it didn't matter b/c the Bills lost the game. An argument that leaves me going . Sorry, but if he makes the kicks, they win. One of the very few things that peeves me about TD is his early kickers comment. Just b/c he hit the Powerball sweepstakes with Moorman, he's banking that it'll happen again?
  9. I'd rather have a pick, even if it's a 4th or 5th. Simon's numbers have dropped off but that would probably make for a fair trade, and fill a need for both teams. I'd still give Edwards and Anderson the first look and have Simon for backup. I've been meaning to ask, who's that in your avatar? CZ-J?
  10. His situation is similar to Rodney Thomas w/ the Oilers/Titans. Rushed for 1,000 yards in '95, then they drafted Eddie George the next spring. After that it was, 'Rodney who?' I think it's time to realize that w/ his contract as it is, being relegated to 3rd string last year, and that he's at his fourth year in a position where the average career lasts three years b/c of the hits RBs take, Henry just isn't worth that much on the market. TD can try to hold onto him until someone blows out their knee in camp and get a 4th or 5th, but it's probably best for all parties to release him.
  11. Straight from the NFL.com bio: 4.44 in the 40-yard dash … 340-pound bench press … 33-inch vertical jump. That vertical is pretty nice. I saw a few Michigan games. He had some good stops in the backfield and can cover sideline to sideline. The thing is his size doesn't exactly fit the traditional spots. I was expecting him to go today. I'd give him a chance, especially w/ Milloy's and Vincent's ages and injury issues last year. I think these would be some selling points for him to sign in Buffalo, too. And I reiterate, I think his size might be a good fit in the Grey's version of the 46.
  12. Especially those red plastic cups! The only "law" I'd maybe like to see is to have gun owners, especially ones w/ children around, have a safe or keep gunlocks on when not in use. The electronic fingerprint technology is great but it's been slow to market. In the meantime, I'm an ardent proponent of the Eddie Eagle program. Those stories are the worst enemy for the NRA and people who own guns responsibly.
  13. 4.44 isn't fast enough? His knock is that his size is a tweener for S and LB. I think he might be a good pickup to fit Grey's 46 hybrid.
  14. Nice to go to this board where it's a little quieter.... ;-) -- Agreed about Detroit's picks. Millen has just ignored his defense even tho it's probably the area that has the biggest holes -- Cody doesn't solve their lack of good LBs. I liken it to TD upgrading the defense in his first two years w/ Clements, Spikes, Milloy, Posey, Fletcher, etc. and not being as committed to balancing it out w/ offensive additions other than stopgaps like how he ultimately rented Bledsoe. Anywho, The pick-up of Orlovsky is interesting too. I think he will surprise a lot of people there, and he landed in probably the best situation he could get. Harrington is on the outs and Garcia isn't long for the league. I'll be rooting for Dan-O. -- Dallas' selecting Ware... I think the trade for JP last year will prove to be very wise. -- I was apprehensive about no OL picks on Day One, but reading about Preston has me going . He could be a good insertion into the line if Teague is moved to LT. Good combo of smarts (pro'ly the most important thing for a center as Hull showed) and size. Some time w/ McNally will do him good. Gates will likely be a good ST contributor similar to Sammy Morris's role. -- Shazor went undrafted. At SS, I like him as a backup to Milloy, who's getting up there. He's got size that can be an asset in the 46-hybrid. Do you think, despite his size, he could play/backup FS if Vincent had to move back to CB? What I saw of him on Saturdays impressed me at times. I'd like to see him as an UDFA, but he may go somewhere where he has a better chance of breaking into the lineup.
  15. And the Bengals. They don't have anything that could remotely be labeled a "scouting department." Mike Brown is a cheapskate idiot. But what the hey, as long as they remain bottom-dwellers, that's all right. They were sold on such talents as Kijana Carter, David Klingler, Dan Wilkinson, Akili Smith.... And since I don't have the next hour free, I'll stop there.
  16. Another thing that I've learned watching 10 years of this stuff: Don't expect anything, b/c you're going to be disappointed. Have hopes, have dreams. But when the pick doesn't fall or the team just before us picks the guy you want, be peeved if you want for an hour or a day, but accept reality and move forward. B/c you can't do much about it. Same goes for the season....
  17. Which means it attracts the riff-raff who, once they see a nice meadow to park their rusty cars in, decide to pitch a tent.
  18. Um, he isn't. I beat the other WR available named Henry at pick-up BBall two years ago.

  20. In the last week or so, I've noticed a lot of posters showing up and having 10, 20, 30 posts and they reason and spell like 3rd graders.... Could it be that the igmos over at the BB.com board are coming here to bog down the content? I wouldn't be surprised, if you've ever spent any time there. Anywho, having them go through registration just encourages these asshats to come back and cause trouble b/c they have that golden ticket that is a registration. Question: To offset this, might it be prudent to open it up to unregistered posting (only as responders) just for the weekend? or until Monday night? Encourage the hipsters to just do their schpiel and then move along.
  21. “You don't tug on Superman's cape / You don't spit into the wind / You don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger / And you don't mess around with Jim.” – Jim Croce
  22. "I can't make bricks without clay." -- Sherlock Holmes in "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches" TD needs to get something in rounds 4-7. Because the starting LT (or C if they switch Teague) doesn't appear to be on the roster. And the Shelton trade which looked like crapola before is dead (This is for the best, I'd say). Not saying he needs a blue chipper, but he does need to pick up a warm body, at least.
  23. And the spike in registered users who will forever remain at "Posts: 1" just so they could chime in with "Yeah! What he said."
  24. Hochstein at C and another rookie at T were starting in the Pats' second SB win.... I give TD a lot of latitude b/c he's the man w/ the plan. To me, these two picks don't sit right, as there are more important areas to plug w/ backups. Who knows, but he'd be wise to sift through the detritus and pick up a C and DT tomorrow.
  25. One part of me agrees, and then the other part has me thinking of when Sherlock Holmes said, "You can't make bricks without clay."
