Where is great big Tidal wave when you need one?
UConn James replied to philburger1's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
And this is exactly what's starting to happen in Afghanistan with Karzi getting uppity and saying that he wants control over all American operations there. And in however many years we're in Iraq, that will be the spouting 30 seconds after the wheels of the last B-52 lift off their sh**-scented ground. Freedom's on the March tho. -
Doesn't this mean that wine producers can just start shipping? The law was ruled unconstitutional/illegal in terms of interstate commerce. I would think it's immediately stricken from the books. How can a company verify age by Internet or mail tho? Are there services that do that? I'm a little miffed by that. They need to tread carefully b/c shipping to a minor can shut them down...

Newsweek F*cks America...
UConn James replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Actually, it was the bullets and beatings delivered by fellow Afghanis/Uzbeks that is responsible for killing those people. The photos of Saddam in his underwear published yesterday.... Pres. Bush said, "I don't think it's a photo that will cause people to murder." Now, replace the word 'photo' in that sentence with 'word.' If that's the sense he was trying to get at, I wholly agree with him. But, either he's going counter to what Scott McClellan and the rest of the media/PR circus is spouting about, or it's another case of "Do as I say, not as I do." Yet another example of the foot-in-mouth disease that's spreading so rapidly. -
Military recruiters now banned from High School
UConn James replied to jimshiz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
And then, the soldiers can starve to death when farmers refuse to provide them food; WE grew it; YOU can't eat it. Same for every other product and service necessary for survival. You think you're the end-all be-all, you'll quickly find out you aren't. This is the stupidest argument I've heard since.... Well, maybe this is the stupidest argument I've heard. Unfugginbelievable! ----- And back to the original subject, recruiters should be allowed just like X Tree Company should be allowed. But it's a pretty sh--ty deal when recruiters are so unethical that today, they had a "values stand-down" so they could all undergo training in proper procedure. -
Pathetic Display by Dems in Senate
UConn James replied to AKC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Something they really does need to change is all of the "He"s that describe the President. Does that mean only a man can be POTUS (but hey, it'd be a nice thing for if Hillary tried to run. Uhp! Sorry Mrs. Clinton! )? How that's managed to stay the same.... -

And I think that suspiciousness is mutual. She has experience w/ people who are doing the island's bidding. And to this point, I would mention Locke smiling while rocking the bloody cradle in Claire's dream. I would wager Rousseau will be protecting the baby. -
Pathetic Display by Dems in Senate

<handclap for someone who gets it>. Name a president who hasn't had a judicial appointment blocked or seriously rangled by the other party(ies). The vast majority are approved, some are not. That's the nature of the beast. Not everything is meant to have complete compromise. The filibuster was created for a reason. If it's improper usage, there are consequences in elections. This is all about a looming battle over a SC nominee in the short term. Stupid reason to change the rules and compromise the checks-and-balances system. Funny how none of the justices, a few of them getting up there in age and in declining health (esp. Renquist), have shown an inkling of hanging up their robe. Maybe for their own reasons of wanting to stay on for a true lifetime appointment, maybe b/c they don't like the idea of who a likely successor will be.... -
I'd venture the middling time b/w when he lost Ben Coates and several weeks after the injury when it was becoming clear Brady would be the Pats' QB of the future and the questions of how could he do it and Bledsoe utterly couldn't. It was a transition of losing confidence/skill he never got used to and didn't want to accept. The first half-season in Buffalo was like a sugar-high. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he did well in Big D right out of the gate and then similarly peters out.

Right. They were chased away from the Black Rock. So they need to go back to get the dynamite. Excuse me. I haven't had my caffeine yet. That's what I was thinking about the radar; the back of the plane. With Sawyer doing a swan dive off of the raft to go mack it with M-Rod. -

Hmm. Yeah, what were the drugs that she gave Sayid? He said he didn't remember much about that, didn't he? Also, saw the full preview again last night and there was a skeleton hanging by shackles (is that what's in the hatch?). And a radar monitor with a blip. Was that salvaged from the plane and brought on the raft? By the by, there's a write-up/interviews by E!'s Kristin here. The guy who plays Charlie is really a hoot, especially when you read it with his voice and personality in mind. -

Point taken about her remembering/longing but it seemed more than that, even. She and Ethan know something about the Others and the baby (and I don't specifically mean Claire's child (does he have a name yet?), just a baby. I don't get the sense that it's a trap. All the scenes with her have shown real fear and the justifiable craziness of living with that fear for 16 years. More a combination that she's warmed to the idea of human contact in the past month and the bond that was formed b/w her and Sayid, that now she maybe feels she owes the Lostaways a heads-up at least. CTM, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. They don't have this ep quite yet. -

The Big East needs good people to make good things happen in the midst of this change. Sucks how losing three programs almost destroyed the conference, and may yet (I like the addition of Louisville and S. Florida tho, and give us a couple of years to groom our QB....). I will hate VT, Miami and BC for the rest of time. -
And they don't call them 'hash marks' for nothing, you know!

Did anyone mention how Sawyer's given name is 'James Ford.' This is probably the most notable entry in a google search of the name.... Probably not a connection. And, did anyone notice how Rousseau was watching Claire and the baby for a looooong frame just as she came into the beach camp? The Others want a baby; that's why Ethan was so hell-bent on having Claire. And what did Rousseau say about her own baby? I missed it. And while I'm asking, does anyone know where to get the text of what Sawyer tells Jack about his father? -
Compassionate Conservatism...Gotta love it
UConn James replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, you know those pregnant women. They don't account for their added girth and soon enough, the dais is crashing down and then everybody's dead. Sounds like the church wants to shake off the dust from the archaic meaning of 'confinement.' See no evil.... I guess she should've been like all the other Catholic girls and just had an abortion and then said ten Our Fathers. -

See? I thought he was just looking at the tarp huts and realizing he was in for some serious sh--, maybe not safer than the island but still with its own dangers. I missed that completely. It was kind of a peeing war he and Kate have had in how one didn't like the other. E.g. last week, Sawyer told Kate he was leaving because there was "Nothing worth staying for" and he let those words sink in. In reality, he was baiting for some kind of response, from a woman who has "Shameless" as her personal torch song. I don't know about misunderstood so much as he's keeping a guarded distance; so many people have hurt him in the past that he has a very defensive front (Kate is the other way around --- she does the hurting). -

That doesn't make her one of the Others. Maybe she's going offer the baby to them to save everyone else? And Ethan's utter fixation on Claire and the baby becomes more clear in this light too.... The Jack-Sawyer scene was what makes this show so great. Very heartfelt, well written and well performed. And it showed a side of Sawyer that even tho he's a selfish bastard most of the time, when the chips are down, he does the honorable thing. He didn't have to tell Jack that. Walt saying goodbye to Vincent was probably not very important to many people, unless they've had to leave man's best friend. There is something very special in growing up with a dog, and Vincent trying to swim out to the raft showed that love is reciprical. Very touching for me. "It's Arzt!! A whole class of ninth graders don't have a problem with this!" Aliens? That would be such a cop-out. -
Not if he meant that if you attempt to do such, "you ought to be [Dirk Diggler]."

Those are the tip of the iceberg. If you just go by what's documented from court records, it's enough to make you go take a hot shower.

I don't know about the molestation theory. Victims, esp. younger girls, tend to implode and be self-destructive. She did have daddy issues (like most of the other Lostaways) as shown w/ her friendly rapport w/ the substitute father figure in Australia, but there's not much to base it on other than speculation. My sense is that killing her father for that... meh.... You do a sob interview on Oprah and get a sympathetic jury and you're out w/in 5 years. Kate's been in more serious stuff than that; she's desperate to escape it. Sawyer has done a transformation from what I first thought of him. Spoiler: I read something about the preview that showed him in the background and Jack crying; supposedly, before the raft sets sail, he tells Jack about what his father said in the bar. If that's accurate, that's probably going to be one of the better scenes. So the Others are coming. "Run. Hide. Or die." -
I don't disagree w/ what the Minutemen were doing. But if you're looking for a more sane solution from either party, you're kidding yourself b/c they're equally stupid.

My uncle has a neighbor who is obsessive-complusive about his lawn --- manicured rows and column, like a baseball field. The neighbor crossed into his yard one time. Three days later so it would really show, he nonchalantly took out his push mower and started mowing his lawn, then went halfway into the neighbor's lawn, did a loop-de-loop and a zig-zag and went back to mowing his own. The neighbor was on the front step watching the whole time with a look on his face. Didn't do or say a thing b/c he knows my uncle is a certifiably crazy ex-Marine. (The neighbor's son actually plays for the Calgary Flames. Or, rather, this year he is not playing for the Calgary Flames.)

Let's take a look at the transcript:  At the very least, I don't think he should be telling the one about bin Laden as "proof their ancestors had sex with camels"... "Moral outrage is jealousy with a halo" -- HG Wells
