BTW, when did "because" *ahem* become *ahem* a verb and what does it mean? I would say that's accurate, only add in that it is conducted via a partisan half-truth smear campaign. Who's going to protect it as a certified Trademark, and therefore a noun in all cases? The Navy? -
ILLEGAL aliens awarded man's ranch
UConn James replied to philburger1's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
What about all of those Japanese businessmen that own a lot of U.S. commercial property, those damned capitalists! They aren't citizens, yet they own land here. And philburger, this was a civil court case. The judge set the damages to be paid as the guy's ranch. Last I looked they don't handle monetary, possession, etc. restitution in criminal court.... I guess we now know who's going to be the next right-wing whipping boy in the next election. Too bad you're gonna lose a lot of those western states! -

And there are people here who think Golisano will be the Bills' savior once Ralph goes to the big football game in the sky.... More like, he'll run the team into the ground by just maintaining the status quo like he's doing now with the Sabres.

New commercial last night during MNF with Sawyer leaning against a rock and reading from something. Like, "We were brought here for a reason!? 'Cha!!!" The creators before said he had just been winged, and this furthers that he came out okay. -
Pat Robertson, "Christian"
UConn James replied to RuntheDamnBall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The most I've heard is for a wave of both-ends flu to go through the WH. Believe it or not, most people who call themselves Dems actually respect the office enough not to call for an execution. For all the talk of the lunatic left, too bad the lunatic right has carried them out with frequency over the last 40 years. That, or the thought of "President Dick Cheney" would cause a body-wide version of brain freeze. -

Well, it's the cost of keeping the inmates safe at the American prison system's crown jewel, as one president called it. -

What would it take to elect a 3rd party president?
UConn James replied to TheMadCap's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Wes Clark. People were scared away from his lack of governing experience and his newness on the scene after a pretty secular military career. He'll run for the nod again and do better simply by being around, but following from Mickey's post tho, there's a scant chance he would get it. It'll probably only get him more of a shot at the VP slot. Vilsak or Richardson/Clark are two tickets I could live with as a former Rep-turned-Dem-mulling-Ind. Edwards hurt the campaign more than most people admit when he got fairly schooled by Cheney in the debate. Imagine if Clark didn't feel a sense of duty to the party (such as it is) last year and ran independently. Money would have been a big issue, but ideas are what count most. I think he would have gotten a lot of votes. -

Lovely. But he's better than al Sadr. Ask him, he'll tell you. I'm just waiting for the part when he joins the Jimmy Swaggert club and he, too, is bursted in on while pearl-necklacing a prostitute's chest in a sleazy hotel room. "Oh, yeah, baby. Mmmm. Yeah...." -

Someone I know who's in the Air Force SF & Ravens escorted the white pick-up and other stuff in a C-5 down to Crawford a couple of years ago. They had to wait for two hours while Laura, at the last minute, decided to send over another shoebox. Maybe she really, really, really, really, really, really needed those green pumps to go with one of her summer dresses. Oh well. That's the job. -

Hey, don't forget that Joe Burns reportedly still has those naked pictures of TD. If he makes the 53-man roster this year, we'll know for sure. -
Another Idiotic Remark By A Politician
UConn James replied to Bill from NYC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Thankfully, it just made her look like a stupid igmo. The only way you score points with conservatives are to say out of one side of your mouth, "Lower taxes!" then out of the other, "What I really mean is, spending all of the current tax dollars and much more, just on different things.... Or not on different things." Memo to politicians: Stop trying to be a colorful personality and make witty jokes that are funny only to you. Try governing. -

Deep dish or thin crust? Extra cheese or double toppings? Lots of disagreement, even in pizza. Maybe he should go the route of LabattBlue's(?) sig line and sign an executive order for Free Blow Job Day. -

At a family party yesterday, my brother in the Guard asked me if I was getting calls from recruiters in the past few months and laughing about it like a practical joke. The soldiers are being required (and they are chewed out big time if they don't) to give recruiters a certain quota of people they can then call and deliver their pitch to. I got a few calls on my answering machine along the lines of "Hey, we talked to you and we've got your information all set to go. Come down and sign the papers." And I'm like, " Do I know you?" This was shortly after their "stand down" day that didn't change anything. The things they're doing just to be able to call it an all volunteer military (as if 'Hey, they signed up for it' is an excuse for when ordering them into the depths of Hell) get pretty skeevy. -

Has anyone seen the minute-long commercial rehashing season 1 and announcing the start of the season as 21 September. Really well-done to compact the essentials into that small bit. Seeing the abduction of Walt scene again... it's a case of the boy who wasn't fully wanted (which the finale ep showed w/ Michael yelling at his mother on the phone asking her to take Walt), until he was taken. Michael yelling out "Waaaalltttttt!" was gut-wrenching and you know he'll go to hell and back to find him or go crazy trying. And then I got to thinking, this is what Rousseau went through w/ Alex. I came down on her hard for taking Claire's baby; basically wanted her dead/didn't care if she dies. But in light of this, maybe too hard? To a point, you would grant Michael a lot of leeway, probably more than we're willing to give Danielle b/c we actually saw Walt's kidnapping. -

I'm just happy that when a DL/LB gets into the backfield, even if there's a blocker in front of him, that JP doesn't fold at the waist. -

Our Special Teams are ridiculously good.
UConn James replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was including last year's performances in that assessment. The fact that they've picked up right where they left off and RL looks better than when we had the top STs unit, that's enough for me to be giddy. Not giddy as a schoolboy, just generally giddy. Unless The Gospel According To Rick Reilly says we played 16 games of nobodies, and he saw MM and BA eating paste in the supply room.... -

Until everyone else gets wise that STs are that important (and surprisingly, the rest of the league is pretty laissez-faire), we will have this edge. And w/ Lindell apparently kicking with more power, don't take your pee breaks during STs plays this season. Great job by Mularky to see the need for/advantage to it and for April to implement it. Under GW, there was never a properly executed wedge. -
What is a" Modified Pat Down" and does security
UConn James replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, maybe just put it in a Ziploc bag; I don't think they'd make a stink about that. They are obviously concerned about any kind of bag or pouch that explosives, etc. could be put in and left somewhere. Just that much C4 will do serious damage.
