Evildoer General MUST HATE FREEDOM
UConn James replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This is why everyone should immediately stop hiring English majors. I hate people who spend 3 pages blathering about something that should have taken 2 sentences. Note: I'm not referencing your post. I heard today on one of the talking head shows that the posse comitatus act needs some refining, but that if the feds had wanted to, they could have declared an insurrection --- and seeing some of what was happening, I don't think anyone would have argued that. The NG and military in general suffer a lot from the legacy of how their counterparts are used in other parts of the world and mental flashes of Kent State, etc. Going forward, there needs to be some wiggle room for a quick, minimal red-tape response in situations of catastrophic natural disaster, etc. -
Anybody else concerned about inability to

The red zone offense needs to produce, b/c going forward it's going to get harder. I suspect MM & TC still have a few surprise plays in their Bag o' Tricks. -
With his health situation, I'm not sure he's looking for that. He seems pretty happy here working under MM and bringing along JP.

there ANY way those can become our permanent unis?

I like the all white. Imagine a blue-on-blue with these unis. I've done some similar mock-ups and it would actually look pretty sweet! -

Yes. But I was really floored when MM went for it on 4th and 2 when it was in FG range. His way of pushing the O to be better; challenging them. I thought it was the right call, even if it hadn't worked. There comes a point where you have to stop relying on the gimmes and settling for/being satisfied with a FG. I'm sure it's something that's going to be stressed in practice. -
Kneel. Kneel. Kneel. Game over! +5 on turnovers. Stout D, as expected. JP haters can shove it.
-
Yup. The dark navy was Drew's, and for all the talk about it incorporating tradition, it only got further away from it. These unis are awesome.

"Fumble. Fumbl-i-a. Fumbleruski." Our D is scary-good. And yeah, I've been calling for Duke Preston to start since we drafted him. Let him and JP progress together. Why can everyone else start rookies and not skip a beat, yet we have to pick from the veteran has-beens/never-weres? Awesome to see him come in at G and do well.
-
Wow. Ballsy call from MM&TC to go for it on 4th. I think they figured they needed to challenge the team and get the O to not "settle" for a FG and play it safe. If you want anything in this league, you need to TAKE it.

Chadwick Pennington's fumbled four (count 'em FOUR) snaps so far.

Ignominy of ignominies, according to all of the unemployed Special Teams coaches we have here at TBD. Maybe Lindell isn't the best, but he ain't the worst.

We essentially agree. The "good samaritan" comparison came out of the fact that the local officials were so hamstrung by changing roles (law enforcement, no, S&R, no, law enforcement, no....) and lack of resources. Add in the inability to communicate effectively and that a number of police officers were quitting, and it's remarkable they got done what they did. Even the best "plan" in the world, as CTM has been bemoaning, would have crumbled. The feds passing blame comes off as inaccurate and a slap in the face. The fact that many NG units were in Iraq did hurt the response. Feel however you want about that and people are entitled to say that Iraq is more important than our own citizens and having relief resources at the ready. Doesn't necessarily make them right. Absent an adequate/full local response, the fed agencies have to pick up the slack and sort out culpability later. They didn't do that. Was glad to see Gen. Honure at the helm. I'm sure a Congressional commission will sort out all of the issues and what went wrong. I would think a lot of it will come down on Mike Brown and FEMA's brain drain, and the situational problems that all compounded. An old office wall joke I've got: NOTICE The objective of all dedicated company employees should be to thoroughly analyze all situations, anticipate all problems prior to their occurance, have answers for these problems, and move swiftly to solve these problems when called upon. HOWEVER... When you are up to your ass in alligators, it is sometimes difficult to remind yourself that your primary objective was to drain the swamp. -
[Entertainment] LOST discussion thread
UConn James replied to duey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seeing as this is a football board, I'm not sure it's appropriate to have 24 threads. Think of it in terms of staying in someone else's house; take up the least amount of room as you can and don't make too much noise. The mods consolidated it to this for a good reason. There's other places on the Net that do exactly what you're looking for, better than we could here (I'd suggest the "Television Without Pity" forums). I see this more as an informal place to ask questions, discuss observations, etc. Making it hardcore....? Nah. -

Wow. Lots of mothers and fathers were busy on Jan. 11.

Thought they'd be in a pickle w/o Nugent? This kid Josh Huston made a 45-yarder that was right down the middle and would've made it from 55 and has been putting the KOs deep into the end zone all game.

Three-day old piss is actually more hydrating than soda. A program I saw said to pinch your nose as you drink. Caffiene robs your body of water. Whenever I'm working at someone's house and they offer me a Coke, I just ask for an iced tea instead. But the worst commercial ever is for that back pain medicine with the fat guy who looks like Charlie Weis dancing and singing badly. It's always on as one of the sponsors of Jeopardy. And I always plug my ears and hum 'O Canada!' in tribute to Alex Trebek.

But Big Mike and Moulds are worth $9M a year (both likely to be restructured)? Next year, out of an $80+M cap, I don't think that's too much to pay for one of, if not the, best CBs in the league where these kinds of actual shutdown CBs are rare, to put it mildly. We don't have a QB making $15M at the moment. That money is therefore spent elsewhere. Elsewhere = Nate, probably under the franchise tag.

Cajun! You're back! And safe!
-
Yup. I don't know about greedy, it's just taking a bigtime gamble and being confident about writing checks that you're sure your ass can cash. That signing bonus is the only guaranteed money a player gets. If (heaven forbid) Nate were injured ala Jeff Burris, he's never going to see another dime from the NFL. He would be wise to sign a deal when he can. You would think that shoulder injury might've made him see the light....
-
Bear in mind, tho, that the salary cap is going to be going up next year b/c that's when the new TV deals kick in (you know how NBC is going to have Sunday night games?). I've read some guys predicting it'll go up by $10M or more. That provides a lot of wiggle room. But yes, the wisest thing to do would be to lock him up now. Or, if you want to delve into TD's mind for a minute, what would be the downside to waiting until the end of the season, and getting that extra-oompf performance from someone in their contract year? If Nate wants to be the top-paid CB or else anyway, then why not just wait and put the Franchise tag on him? I'd say TD's got a plan.

Michigan fans are thinking they're getting all kinds of screwed by the replay officials (to the point where they're throwing sh-- on the field) but they have been the proper calls.

Evildoer General MUST HATE FREEDOM

Wow, the great, all-knowing SnR says with confidence that everybody drowned. No one was at the other end of water consumption and died of dehydration from three days of being in 90*-plus, humid weather. Officials don't even know how many people died yet, much less what they died of, but I'd say a lot of them came after the flooding. Back in the real world, and from a man who actually knows a little more than you about the situation, a day or more of response time by the NG would have made a difference. Keep spewing that the local officials are the ones to be blaming, as if culpability is a worthwhile thing to be doing right now, nevermind its accuracy w/o all the facts. People here always spout about local entities being the best people to determine what needs to be done, and in this case it showed how limited any one place's resources are. The local people officials are comparable to a good samaritan motorist stopping at an accident scene and there's people with their backs broken. They could only do so much. -
Any Interest in Car Pool on Sunday?

In this day, a rideshare section might be really good. Saves gas and gives you an opportunity to meet other fans.
