  1. Honestly, if the sh-- hits the fan in any area of the country, be it a natural catastrophe or man-made, beyond watching a TV which probably will not work, people have no idea what to do beyond jump in our cars and drive, drive, drive. And hope that we drive in the right direction. Waiting until the disaster strikes isn't the time to be telling everyone, "So here's what we're thinking...." You're exactly right, it would be a great thing to get this info out en masse to localities. Wanna spearhead it, Paul? The reason why those don't exist anymore? The Cold War ended (so the threat was entirely over, don't you know??) and it requires tax money. Lots of people just aren't down with that.
  2. Notice how you didn't respond to the second part of my post? Yeah. I figured that. I think AA is wrong, too. I don't go around boasting that I'm a racist. Read your sig in the eyes of someone coming here for the first time. The sarcasm is hard to distinguish there, man.
  3. I didn't miss the point. He probably used needed resources to piddle around. And anything short of collecting his only copy of something similar in world-changing scope to the Marshall Plan, I'd say it was wrong. But am I surprised it happened? No (I'm not surprised by much anymore). And am I surprised that here, he's being lambasted while every ®, including Tom Delay, is given the complete benefit of the doubt? The most repeated argument that came out of those threads was "Hey, everyone else does it, so why can't he?" B/c that makes it OK.
  4. So it goes at the University of College Basketball....
  5. Link Well, I guess it's only fair. They have to apply the rules equally.
  6. Remind you of a story I related about Laura Bush and two shoeboxes? Perish the thought when politicians and their wives are used to getting their butts wiped, and expect it every time. Then again, maybe he had important legislative materials in there. Maybe he was drafting a bill. Who knows. But b/c he's got a D next to his name, now a story like this gets posted, on this board. Whatever.
  7. You're trying to reason with a guy who proudly boasts in his sig line that he's a racist? And if that is somehow his attempt at sarcasm, one, it's not funny and two, how in the world can you tell? I wouldn't put it that "abortion is legal" b/c it's a misnomer. I would say that most people see it in terms of "It's none of your damn business." With an issue that is so rancorous and split as abortion (defining "when life is life" which for many includes various religious beliefs), that is exactly where failing federal or state law (and it would be a failure when every time the other party is elected, the law changes, back and forth, back and forth) the "reserved to the people [to make their own decisions]' part of the Constitution kicks in. Odd that the SC filed it under right to privacy, but I guess that's just another way of saying the same thing. When emotions get high on the anti-choice side, they forget that little clause.
  8. In the most recent preview I saw, last night, the opened hatch is shown and a light comes on. Kate's(?) voice saying something's down there, a scream.... There was also a flash on a warning sign that I believe read, "Quarantine." , duey. Outnumbered three to one? Ouch.
  9. This is why everyone should immediately stop hiring English majors. I hate people who spend 3 pages blathering about something that should have taken 2 sentences. Note: I'm not referencing your post. I heard today on one of the talking head shows that the posse comitatus act needs some refining, but that if the feds had wanted to, they could have declared an insurrection --- and seeing some of what was happening, I don't think anyone would have argued that. The NG and military in general suffer a lot from the legacy of how their counterparts are used in other parts of the world and mental flashes of Kent State, etc. Going forward, there needs to be some wiggle room for a quick, minimal red-tape response in situations of catastrophic natural disaster, etc.
  10. The red zone offense needs to produce, b/c going forward it's going to get harder. I suspect MM & TC still have a few surprise plays in their Bag o' Tricks.
  11. With his health situation, I'm not sure he's looking for that. He seems pretty happy here working under MM and bringing along JP.
  12. I like the all white. Imagine a blue-on-blue with these unis. I've done some similar mock-ups and it would actually look pretty sweet!
  13. Yes. But I was really floored when MM went for it on 4th and 2 when it was in FG range. His way of pushing the O to be better; challenging them. I thought it was the right call, even if it hadn't worked. There comes a point where you have to stop relying on the gimmes and settling for/being satisfied with a FG. I'm sure it's something that's going to be stressed in practice.
  14. Kneel. Kneel. Kneel. Game over! +5 on turnovers. Stout D, as expected. JP haters can shove it.
  15. Yup. The dark navy was Drew's, and for all the talk about it incorporating tradition, it only got further away from it. These unis are awesome.
  16. "Fumble. Fumbl-i-a. Fumbleruski." Our D is scary-good. And yeah, I've been calling for Duke Preston to start since we drafted him. Let him and JP progress together. Why can everyone else start rookies and not skip a beat, yet we have to pick from the veteran has-beens/never-weres? Awesome to see him come in at G and do well.
  17. Wow. Ballsy call from MM&TC to go for it on 4th. I think they figured they needed to challenge the team and get the O to not "settle" for a FG and play it safe. If you want anything in this league, you need to TAKE it.
  18. Chadwick Pennington's fumbled four (count 'em FOUR) snaps so far.
  19. Ignominy of ignominies, according to all of the unemployed Special Teams coaches we have here at TBD. Maybe Lindell isn't the best, but he ain't the worst.
  20. We essentially agree. The "good samaritan" comparison came out of the fact that the local officials were so hamstrung by changing roles (law enforcement, no, S&R, no, law enforcement, no....) and lack of resources. Add in the inability to communicate effectively and that a number of police officers were quitting, and it's remarkable they got done what they did. Even the best "plan" in the world, as CTM has been bemoaning, would have crumbled. The feds passing blame comes off as inaccurate and a slap in the face. The fact that many NG units were in Iraq did hurt the response. Feel however you want about that and people are entitled to say that Iraq is more important than our own citizens and having relief resources at the ready. Doesn't necessarily make them right. Absent an adequate/full local response, the fed agencies have to pick up the slack and sort out culpability later. They didn't do that. Was glad to see Gen. Honure at the helm. I'm sure a Congressional commission will sort out all of the issues and what went wrong. I would think a lot of it will come down on Mike Brown and FEMA's brain drain, and the situational problems that all compounded. An old office wall joke I've got: NOTICE The objective of all dedicated company employees should be to thoroughly analyze all situations, anticipate all problems prior to their occurance, have answers for these problems, and move swiftly to solve these problems when called upon. HOWEVER... When you are up to your ass in alligators, it is sometimes difficult to remind yourself that your primary objective was to drain the swamp.
  21. Seeing as this is a football board, I'm not sure it's appropriate to have 24 threads. Think of it in terms of staying in someone else's house; take up the least amount of room as you can and don't make too much noise. The mods consolidated it to this for a good reason. There's other places on the Net that do exactly what you're looking for, better than we could here (I'd suggest the "Television Without Pity" forums). I see this more as an informal place to ask questions, discuss observations, etc. Making it hardcore....? Nah.
  22. NFL Offers New Wrinkles On DirectTV.
  23. Wow. Lots of mothers and fathers were busy on Jan. 11.
  24. Thought they'd be in a pickle w/o Nugent? This kid Josh Huston made a 45-yarder that was right down the middle and would've made it from 55 and has been putting the KOs deep into the end zone all game.
  25. Three-day old piss is actually more hydrating than soda. A program I saw said to pinch your nose as you drink. Caffiene robs your body of water. Whenever I'm working at someone's house and they offer me a Coke, I just ask for an iced tea instead. But the worst commercial ever is for that back pain medicine with the fat guy who looks like Charlie Weis dancing and singing badly. It's always on as one of the sponsors of Jeopardy. And I always plug my ears and hum 'O Canada!' in tribute to Alex Trebek.
