I have no problem with the plotlines developed tonight, so I’m not ragging on that, but the dialogue from these writers Kim and Sarnoff just wasn’t on par with Lindelof & Cuse or Fury. The Sun/Jin storyline sets up another ‘special’ child…. I was getting the reading that Sun only said she was happy that she couldn’t get preggers b/c of Jin’s thinking that “it was going to make everything better.” At the end, she smiles and puts her hand on her stomach. But it is getting kind of trite how Jin is presented at the start of a story to be all bad-ass and destructive only later to see things how we all want him to and be the doting husband. With Sun’s learning English, I was snookered at first thinking it was something more, but it was a genuine friendship with the guy she’d been dating before she met Jin. (I think he may have hinted at something being possible, but hey, he's a guy.) So, Jack says Sun should tell “The whole truth” and then tells Kate that nothing’s going on in the hatch. I’ve thought ‘Henry Gale’ is an Other from the start. It’s been set up to make you wonder whether he has been telling the truth, but that last scene when Jack let him out for breakfast… doesn’t leave a doubt for me. And even if it does show the balloon in the preview, that doesn’t mean that Henry hadn’t joined up with the Others. The Hurley/Sun scene was pretty good. " I just found this lying in the middle of the jungle...." But, as I wrote before, next week is big.

Finally, we get back on schedule! I don't think there'll be m/any more hiatuses from here on out. Eight episodes left for a whole season, and the finales are now tending to air in late May. One of these writers was responsible for a 'Meh!' episode early in the season... But from what I've read, next week promises to be good w/ Lindelof & Cuse. T minus 1:15.

Maybe you should call the GhostBusters, too?

Guard -- Neal Tackle -- Draft, probably in the 2nd or 3rd. RB -- ? S. Williams ain't that bad a backup! UDFA for camp fodder. WR -- Late in the draft, if not an UDFA or a June 1 cut. DT -- Draft. Ngata or Bunkley or ... ? DE -- Mid-late draft, if at all. LB -- Probably an UDFA SS -- Don't know if Baker is going to get a shot here, and we did sign someone, but I could certainly understand Marv taking Huff if he's at #8. You forgot (don't worry, everyone does b/c it's not sexy): FB -- Matt Bernstein with a 3rd, if he's still there. I'm liking Marv's approach. Don't have to blow up the whole thing. And I'm also hoping he continues the trend of bringing in UDFAs and giving them a shot.

And yes, like stuck says, take a good look at the place. Foundation is something you don't want any problems with b/c it's a bad living condition and expensive to fix anything. I worked the concrete gig for ~5 years. If you've got any buddies or family in the construction trade, bring them along to take a thorough look before you get serious.

My brother's browsing the market right now, and don't hold me to this, but I'd get your own real estate person (or you can do it yourself if you don't mind all the hassle), offer the 158K and see what their realtor's offer back. Back in the '60s my father got a listed $15K lake cottage for $7500 after his initial offer of $6K. Took a couple of months, but the people wanted to get rid of it quickly like your situation. Different times, I know.... But always offer less, b/c you can go up. This all changes depending on the house-buying competition in the area. If there's lots of buyers, that nudges it up close to the asking price.

Bait, fly, spear, lures, worms, rubber, stink bait, ice, pier, dynamite, electrolysis (for those stupid enough to try these last two)... you name it. To borrow from Twain, fishing is a good boat ride ruined. Nevermind that in most places, you can't actually eat the fish you catch nowadays. PCBs, mercury, and who knows what else in the water.

And so, they relegate themselves to a constant state of trades and UFA signings to fill their gaps. Because once you start it, it's hard to stop. So instead of paying the rookie minimums and finding talent, they sign others' monetary/performance ca$toffs to whopper contracts. The N.Y. hockey Rangers finally learned two years ago that this practice does not pan out even when there isn't a salary cap. I would say that one day it'll catch up to them, but I know better.

KFFL is reporting that he's in negotiations with the NYC subway system for their T position. T for turnstile, that is. I swear to all things holy... In the Atlanta game, Teague stood upright with the dumbest look on his face at the LOS as JP was being ransacked by three Falcons about 5 yards in the backfield. A Center with any balls would've been back there protecting his QB, even if it resulted in a penalty.

Could JP Losman be on his way out?

It's more nearly accurate to use the analogy of a circle-jerk, but yeah. -
As for Orlovsky, I'm a bit of a homer, don't you know. He's got decent arm strength, can move around in the pocket. In a preseason game I caught last year, the Lions QBs were doing nothing until he came in in the late 2nd after someone got hurt and he led two TD drives and was putting the ball where it needed to be. Doubtful that he's the one who gets the ax, as they were pleased with his progress. I think he'll develop into a quality backup and I hope he gets a chance to start somewhere. As it stands, it'll probably be a Kitna-McCown-DanO line-up for them. I wouldn't touch the other two with a 23 1/2 foot pole.

Tough game against an opponent who's playing a style, and with an intensity, Calhoun wasn't expecting. Combine that with an offense not hitting shots until late here.... And that's why they play the games.

Halliburton serving our soldiers well, again
UConn James replied to PastaJoe's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Can't speak for that specific business, but running my own (very small, albeit) business, I can say that the reality on the ground is often far removed from the theory of a book or the back of a can of sealant. Have to make do with what you've got, and be creative in solving problems. Halliburton, KBR, etc. are THE people who do this type of contracting in hot zones. Doing otherwise is like hiring one guy with a pickup and a 6'x6' trailer to haul all of the garbage in NYC. While I'm a little leery about what the ultimate worth of what we're doing over there will be (and the macro cost of it), I don't doubt that, by and large, the right people are on the job when they're given a task. And the guys who do that stuff are to be commended. -
On one hand, there's the numerous examples of guys in the NBA who were drafted by bad teams and played like sh-- b/c that was the culture, then went to another, better team and excelled. It's all a matter of environment. Millen is a grade-A moron who thought adding more first-round WRs and big$ name FAs would be the answer to his O's and team's problems. But, the NFL is not the NBA. Gunshy-ness in QBs doesn't go away. And Harrington did not show an ability to make good quick decisions or throw accurate passes; by year 3 that's a sure sign that he's not going to, ever. BTW --- it's pronounced Day-Twa-ah.

Here was a quote from a recent Sporting News

Buftex, believing the copy on the back of football cards is akin to believing a press release from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is all three kinds of truth. You really think they'll put "Hands of stone" on there? I had a pal on the track team whose website bio said he "could be an Olympic qualifier." Even he cracked up about that. Uhh... could be, but he's not going to be. -

They couldn't see if K-Mart was having a blue-light special? Poland Spring: what it means to be from Tikrit. Honest Al's Used Humvee Lot.... What? No sale!!? -
As long as there's no incentive for some players to play college ball b/c they don't care about getting a free education and they're not paid.... there's going to be some skeeve factors for the most popular sports where recruiting is concerned. Pulling strings for academic eligibilty, sex parties for football recruits (was that Texas Tech?).... I saw some softie examples; was in a gen-ed class loaded w/ jocks and the prof got free tickets to a few games from the coach. It's for that reason that I used to go to some of the less visible sports, where they are truly student-athletes b/c there is no real pro league. As for the flap with BC, it goes back to when Miami and VT left the Big East for the ACC. That year, BC made a promise that they were committed to the Big East, that they were definately staying in the Big East. So, UConn built a $90M football stadium for upgrading to D-I thinking that Big East football would have a solid future. The next year, BC runs to the ACC (leaving the Big East high and dry for football programs, hence the nickname Big Least), and it was found out that they had been making hay with the ACC before and while they were making said promises. And to add insult to injury, BC's administration is the Boston Archdiosesce(?). Nice!

Hasn't been caught... doing what? I think M. Williams should've been expelled for the laptop episode, and I really didn't follow the team during the season b/c of it. But Calhoun had nothing to do with that decision; it was the Dean of Students (I actually wrote him a letter expressing my disappointment, as an alum). What's the other name? I've heard most of them. Yukon, UCan't, University of College Basketball....
-
Do I really need to write who I think is going to win? Just look to the left. Would LOVE it if we got to knock off BC in the semis. To anyone who followed what happened in their leaving the Big East, it would be sweet revenge for those fecking backstabbing liars.

For someone just coming along and reading it, I think that's one of those sentences that Lewis Black says cause all of the aneurisms in the world.

Add 10. But, no sh--, I get carded all the time by cashiers who say, "You look like you're about 19." Which I suppose is better than looking middle-aged (35 ). And, I forgot to tell LanaK, that no, I will not be posing for Cosmo, even tho they keep asking.

Bills Re-Sign Mike Schneck
UConn James replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This goes down as a low-profile signing to the rest of the NFL, but holy ke-rist, you don't know how important it can be until you don't have a good LS.
