Jacksonville Jag's game question
UConn James replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah. I mean… there are cameras all over the place, at least for broadcast, and they use the angle that gives the best view of the play e.g. on a fumble. If that happens from the opposite side, he’s still going to be “driven crazy,” no? 🤨🤷🏻♂️ -
U.S. Sprinter Suspended from Olympic Team
UConn James replied to The Avenger's topic in Off the Wall
Michael Phelps got busted for it too. But his was after an Olympics, iirc. It’s the timing of this that is the especially sad / stupid part on her end. 🤷🏻♂️ I heard say that she might be eligible for a 4x relay race that happens just after the month suspension is over. -
The return of the red helmet in 2022?
UConn James replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
CBSSports article revealing that with the league’s delayed timing on ending the one-shell rule, most teams will NOT be able to use different helmets in 2022, and will have to wait until 2023. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-alternate-helmets-heres-why-eagles-and-others-reportedly-wont-be-wearing-throwbacks-in-2022/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=news_tab&utm_content=algorithm Here’s hoping that they issue a special dispensation for this situation so throwback sets can be used next year. Stupid legalese. -
💯. I was really surprised the player’s union didn’t push for a second bye week this season. Guaranteed they will once the effects of the 17 games are seen. The league seems to be scared to extend the season into Feb. I mean… WHY? Only reason is to give players those few weeks more of an offseason, which is a consideration seeing as they’re away from their families so much during the season. And perhaps a chance to have & recover from those off-season surgeries. But it’s all going this way for 18 games (+2 preseason) & 2 byes. Not including this in the planning for the new stadium, read: having at least a retractable roof, is stupid.

I seem to recall in recent years that the Pegs had bought up land surrounding the stadium. I don’t think it was all used for practice fields. Maybe it’s just me, but it would’ve been nice if the part about possibly playing elsewhere during construction was broached down the line. They really couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get in an un-veiled threat to the pols during what should just be celebratory news? Couldn’t just let us bask in a totally positive direction of the franchise for a hot minute?

This was a serious issue in the French Open that impacted the players, line judges & the tv broadcast as the shadow line crept onto the court from side to side. The stark thing where one side is glaring sun, the other in dark shade. There’s no camera setting that can make it better. To be fair, in the FO’s case at the Roland-Garros stadium, that shadow was caused by the retrofit of a retractable roof, which added the structure that caused the shadow there. One of the big reasons to do it right the first time instead of having to add things out of later necessity and having them cost so much more and be all clunky / ham-fisted.

There seem to be two schools of thought. Populous cities have gone bigger e.g. MetLife, Jerry’s world. Some smaller cities have gone smaller than previous stadium e.g. Ford Field. Personally, I think it should go smaller. The pandemic is only highlighting some of the factors. NFL has become more of a TV & screen league; TBH, it’s a much better product & view on screen and the people who are going seem to be there for the ambiance / tailgating / social & social-media side of things (how many fans do you see in stands who are looking at their phones the whole time. It’s just stupid to me). More average people are being priced out of going to games, more luxury suites & seating is taking the place of general seat capacity because they can charge more and that isn’t revenue-shared. We seem to be a club where the trends don’t fit, however. Corporate & luxury weren’t selling. General seating at 80K (less when the replaced the metal benching) had to be done to pack in as many as they could to reach a number through mass. Maybe that changes with new digs and a competitive team 🤷🏻♂️.

I was & still am a proponent of a retractable roof. Plans can change, especially at this super-early stage. We have to be building for the weather that’s going to be for the next 50 years, which means stronger storms and wilder weather due to climate change / global warming. (For heavens sake, no power poles for Mylar balloons 🎈 — EVERYTHING utility-wise should be underground!!!!) Weather takes a serious toll on exposed surfaces. Concrete breaks down faster, plastic fades & goes brittle / cracks, paint fails, etc. A partial covering won’t do it for wind and snow and rain. If you’re going to go through the bother to create the structure for a partial why the hell not go for a full solution? Half measures are always terrible.

A tidbit on the UniWatch page today has a quote from the Rams COO Kevin Demoff revealing that there is a league rule that prevents teams from showcasing new uniforms — unless it is a complete redesign for all team unis, where they traditionally are showed near the NFL Draft — until after 1 July. So if any team is going to have a new alternate or throwback, as the Browns & 49ers have been heavily rumored to have developed, it comes a little later. There’d been rumors of the one-shell rule for helmets ending this season, which would create many more opportunities for throwbacks, but so far there’s been nothing official. Once it does end, it’d be great to see the ‘90s throwback for a game or two a year… taking the place of the red ketchup bottle Color Rush set. With the league adding more games, it seems worthy to slightly increase the number of uni choices, especially for throwback options. As for the Rams debuting a new alt, let’s just hope for something without gradients and off-white / “Bone.”

Beautiful pup 🥰. Definitely NOT a Weimaraner, but could be a Weim-Lab cross.

Stadium update, but not really
UConn James replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Per WKBW reporter, Matt Bove, who was at the stadium and shared some pictures, there is some kind of improvements being made currently, with scaffolding around the press boxes(?) as well as a large section of seats removed from one of the upper decks. https://billswire.usatoday.com/2021/06/03/buffalo-bills-highmark-stadium-slight-facelift/amp/ -

Woman kicked out of amusement park for wearing skimpy shorts
UConn James replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall
In a similar way as the park story, a girl on last night’s news was saying, the swim team pictures were allowed, but 80 girls’ photos are edited (really horribly, btw)? I think some school administrator really needs a visit from “To Catch A Predator” if these gave him a chubby and he demanded they be hidden for the shame of it all. As so many things in this world, the person who hates / decries something most is the one who has the most shame about it himself. ‘Hide those clavicles! They’re giving me an erection!’’ As has been said, the best way to find out about someone’s true character is to give them a little bit of power. -

Florida high school issuing refunds after 80 girls’ photos altered to appear more modest The girl’s picture in the article was altered because it “showed her breasts”?!?!!! Some people apparently need BASIC anatomy lessons. If three inches below the clavicle are breasts then…. Just, simply, WTAF? 🤦🏻♂️. These folks are not only against lewdness — they are against any female bare skin. Again… where the hell are we? Afghanistan? -
Yeah. Started to bounce back yesterday (Saturday) evening. Arm still is sore but able to lift it over shoulder without an audible pain grunt. Feeling all right otherwise. Thanks!

My first Moderna last month only had my arm sore at the injection spot for a few days. Different story for the second. Same arm soreness, a little more pronounced because I really felt the needle this time. The first time’s gal must have been a needle wizard — I kept waiting and then she was like… uhmm, hey, you’re done, you can wait over there for 15 minutes. I literally never felt it. Last night had serious chills despite being under two winter-level covers. This morning was chills on everything but my feet, which felt like they were on fire, and my head which was hardly less 🔥, especially my ears. Wooziness & unsteady on my feet when I could manage to be out of bed for the necessaries. Really bad headache, and I’ve had migraines all my life so I’m not a headache wimp. Didn’t want to be taking a Tylenol as there’s recommendations to not take that before the shot… and it may reduce the effectiveness if taking too soon afterward. But reached my limit at about noon because cold packs weren’t doing it. If you have this kind of reaction, that means it’s working, so they say. Feeling better now. Dull remnant of the headache, but feeling well enough to do a couple small repair things and spraypaint some parts. Haven’t eaten anything yet today — well… two mint M&Ms — and still don’t really feel like eating.

I’m just going to say that it’s kinda appalling to read that some on here think that because this gal had a kid/s, that means she is no longer allowed to be autistic and have social difficulty / anxiety. There is a long history of misunderstandings between police and autistics, bringing about additional training for police on interacting with those on the spectrum. On a FB page I follow, there was recently a printout designed to give to 👮🏻♂️ for a “blue bag” that includes license, registration, insurance during such interactions. Autism grows up. And as much as some people might want us to stay under a rock, we have every right to go places and do activities we enjoy and not be harassed for being who we are. Or for breaking dress codes that don’t even actually exist. -

Yes, it was in other articles as well, that reported she walked away from the rent-a-cop/s-with-delusions-of-grandeur toward her boyfriend for protection when they were berating her. Not uncommon for someone who is autistic. (I say this as someone on the spectrum / Asperger’s-as-was, my ownself.) I’m guessing that the security officer didn’t like this as an affront to his authoritahhhh. Even so, the family complied without making a scene and left the park. As stated, in a park where people are wearing bathing suits / bikinis, how the hell does this rate as unacceptable? There’s nothing in the park rules that delineates dress code other than clothing with offensive graphics / words. Are we going back to the days of using a ruler to measure above the knees? Make ‘em wear burqas? What year is this? Apparently the park doubled-down and their stance is going to be not to apologize or do anything. That’s their first reaction as this plays out, to either try to avoid a lawsuit or stick to their guns using that defense. 😒😠 -
JHC. That woman’s car is going to get sloshed with gas. Those containers aren’t anything close to waterproof. And that large container with the metal girding around it… also not designed for gas and it’s now unusable for anything else in the future. SMH 🤦🏻♂️.

Taylor Hall had two goals including a nice game-winner tonight for the B’s. I dunno. Is / was it scheme? Atmosphere? Klonopin in the arena’s water? Guys seem to come to Buffalo and just suck out loud, leave, and produce elsewhere.

Kind of a bummer to see this, but tennis isn’t a big sport for boys here. Isner is basically just a serve-bot and that can only take you so far. Women’s WTA has always been better with US representation, with Osaka, Serena still hanging on, Kenin, Jen Brady breaking in, and our very own owners’ daughter Jessie Pegula. Women’s tennis is VERY much more mercurial, tho, and I think that hurts it. Few big stars with staying power.
