North Korean missle test fails
UConn James replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, you learn more from a failure than you do from a success. Meanwhile, his country can't grow friggin' rice b/c everyone's busy goose-stepping to scare the Bogeyman in KJI's mind. Had the missile stayed up, if it were me I would have given an order to shoot it down (as it was ABC was reporting that a finger was on the button) even if it wasn't headed toward our mainland. -
I think the Dutch have something similar to the non-fruit version. It's called 'ollie bollen' (not enirely sure of the spelling --- that's just how it was pronounced by my grandparents when they used to make it over the stove). There's a mix of batter, to which they usually put in some raisins and it's rolled up in about meatball-sized balls and fried in oil. I think it probably does call for powdered sugar, but my grandmother has diabetes, so that means no one else can have sugar in their house either. I'll have to get that recipie. That was always a special day when they made those.

Is that Italian for "Sure, I'll provide a full-size link for the chick in my avatar"?

Due to my geographic locale, I am stuck watching the Patriettes a lot. Bellichick, the addition of Brady and circumstance tapped into something that was in the players. The different combination brought out something that was there the whole time. It's not some diatribe that 1+ 1=6. Houston, huh? Did you work for Enron, sparky?

Yeah. Mass emails to Disney saying: "PLEASE Disney, claim copyright infringement! For the love of God, ple-a-se!!!!"

You forgot "paradigm."

Weird, as opposed to pathological.

One of the things about dropping that was b/c the film industry wants to cater more toward a worldwide audience, where sometimes they can make 60% of their money, rather than just the U.S. What gets me on PPP is that in one thread it's stamped out that you're not supposed to tell restaurant owners they can't allow cigarettes, and then in another, you're supposed to castigate filmmakers for running their business how they want and to practice the REAL American way --- make as much a profit as they can. I love this country and it matters zero to me what some pillowbiters do or don't do with their script. Don't like it? Don't watch. Don't let it bother you about what other people do.

I had a prof for a class on forensics/serial killers who wore the same thing every day. Light blue dress shirt, khaki pants, plastic shopping bag as a briefcase. Some people are just weird like that.

'Synergy' is a bullsh-- word used by people who refuse to acknowledge that every part of success comes from hard work and knowing what you're doing. And it was mostly used by executives of companies no longer in business. Sorry, but something can't come from nothing. The whole cannot be more than the sum of the parts. We had to go old-school to get a GM & Coach who finally realize that.

Agreed in regard to the Super Bowl site, tho it may be a while until they rebuild and the infrastructure can support something that big. There's badder fish to fry right now. On the contrary to your second point, wouldn't it be wiser to indeed move one of the 'weaker' franchises rather than uproot a team with more established, loyal fans? The Saints are damn near a perfect fit for LA --- they don't even need to change the name to fit e.g. The Saints in the 'City of Angels'? I also think drafting Reggie Bush was a calculated move (frosting to his BPA status after Houston went with Williams).

Didn't we sign the guy who took over at C?

Translation (whenever predictions like this are made): They will.

LanaK6's Family Spotted in Allentown, PA
UConn James replied to ajzepp's topic in Off the Wall Archives
<♫> Well we're living here in Allentown And they're closing all the bathrooms down </♫> -
From what I've read about it, it was less about a 'rich people saying NIMBY' than about good ol' states' rights (in fact, they usually wouldn't even be visable and is a simplistic conspiracy-theory). Teddy Kennedy originally said he opposed the inclusion of permission for the wind farm in a federal Coast Guard funding bill; rather, it should be up to the state's residents and the governor. For sundry reasons, the wind farm was getting bipartisan nonapproval for the proposed spot b/c of environmental, navigational/shipping concerns, and could hurt tourism (I don't buy this --- in fact, I'd argue they'd be an attraction). What stuck in the alt-energy crowd's craw is that the discussion was mostly back-room. As of now, the project looks like a go, as Teddy says the safety/environmental concerns he had have been resolved. Romney is apparently on record of opposing it b/c it would 'ruin the natural beauty' of the Cape. Also, I don't think he was keen on Mass. being the guineu pig for the ocean turbines and having responsibility on his shoulders for all that could go wrong in the trial run. Well, when you're the man in charge of guiding a state's economy in this day and age where a loud fart can cause a $400M defecit, give him a call.... But yes, this unwillingness to take a leap at something that could be great for the country is a detraction. I think the next president (b/c the Current Occupant refuses to beyond lip service) needs to issue an eloquent challenge in an Oath of Office or SOTU speech like JFK did, to develop reliable alt-energy sources before X-amount of years and then back it up.

Then there's the contingent who could actually see what condition the Superdome was in after Katrina+3. It's like if you saw someone sh-- in your teapot --- would you be in a hurry to toast the Queen? That image will always be there no matter how much Clorox it's doused in. I think the Saints moving to LA is something most people know will happen in due course. Just that they don't want to say it and be the Bad Guy.

So, you're saying that the guy is willingly referred to by the universal word for poop?

Usually, when a piece of work is accompanied by some airy prose like that, it's to try to justify something that's craptacular. Let the design communicate what you want to say. (And often, designers simply create an alternate in a couple of hours that they know will be rejected, just to steer eyes toward the one they like and make it look all the better in comparison). In the first design, I hope those were early sketches. The V-shields look like sh--, and a 'Way to copy the Thrashers!' came to mind.

Kaka! Is there a worse name out there in soccerdom?

In watching this summer run, it feels like I've seen S2 about five times over.

I read about the first two sentences of looong posts. Depending on the topic, depending on the poster, depending on the quality of writing/argument.... depending on the blurriness of my eyes.... I read on. If you're referencing BarryBrady/FakeFatSunny/PyriteGal, my rule of thumb is to just skip it and then if anyone quotes part of it I'll read that. All of the fuggin typos (often not small things, e.g. 'erl' when the word should be 'real' You spend 5 seconds/per trying to fill in the correct word) and his finding 50 ways to say the Same. Damn. Thing. hurt my brain. If he had any ability to edit, I'd have no problem, but as he has said, he's not interested in that.

Rooney is the kind of person that, you just look at his face and you know he's a Richard. May be a good player but his impatience and temper cost the team lots; they deflated after it. And then, it wouldn't be England if it didn't end badly. That is your guys' worldview, isn't it? My team of heritage left is..... France. The other half is Netherlands, who I was rooting for most before Thurs. Condolences lie that this is not a French team of the prissy-"ve 'ate Ameeerica" class. They are from the tough streets.

Israel ready to Re-Enter Gaza Strip
UConn James replied to UConn James's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Palestinians cry, "WAAAAAAHHH!!!!!" Uhmmm.... I can only say that maybe they shouldn't have f--ked with the bull. There is ZERO forethought going on with these people. 1) Elect a govt whose past stated goal is the extermination of the Jewish state. 2) Kidnap an Israeli soldier and refuse to return him or do an exchange. 3) Act surprised and 'pschologically hurt' when you get bombed. "Finally figuring out"? I come from a military family, JSP. The blue star is in the window right now. My qualms have always been that we need to do things 'right'.... But as time goes on, it becomes more apparent that the only thing the Islamofascists understand is force and the realization that it's in their best interest to stop !@#$ with us. (And with that said, I think it's also become more apparent that we've done just about all we can in Iraq. Our presence there is causing more problems than solutions --- in terms of the fighting itself, our ability to exert force elsewhere in the next 5-10 years *ahem* Iran, NK *ahem*, and the toll it's taken on the Guard and military families.)
