  1. And this is news to anyone... how? It's not like Marv just took a look at the roster and changed his forecast for this year from 10-6 to 3-13. It's at 0-0. And I also take him to be smarter than to say we're not re-building, b/c it's glaringly obvious. In more or less a degree, 32 out of 32 teams are. What I will say is that I love the backhand he gave MM in the last quote. It gives me hope.
  2. See my post above. Just have to stick my nose in to say that not all guys named James are nancy-boys.
  3. Two more soldiers kidnapped by Hezbollah, Israeli incursion into Lebanon to try to rescue them, calling said kidnapping an "act of war." Arab countries and organizations funneling money to the Hamas-controlled govt. Things can get really out of hand really quickly in that region, as everyone knows. Good leadership by Olmert to say enough is enough and not back down. B/c this means more than some bombs launched from Gaza; At stake is, Can the Israeli state survive surrounded by people who want them dead?
  4. There's Jimshiz looking out for the interests of rapists and incestors intent on making a baby. He's always right. His name is Jim Shizzle, in the hizzle, baby! Read his sig line and try to tell me that's not all tolerance, all the time.
  5. I'm equally miffed about Stamer's rightie getting $59. (Is he still on the team?) I could understand for a pair....
  6. Hmm. I like that song "You're Beautiful." Perfectly sums up when you see a striking brunette in an elevator or walking by that catches your eye and you catch hers.... You can smile, but how can you say anything in such a situation w/o coming across as a complete ass?... and you'll never meet. Then again, I'm not anywhere near that singer's octave when it plays through my mind. Probably doesn't help him in the 'wuss' category.
  7. That is my opinion of him in re: to the uniforms decision only. That's the topic of this thread. I don't disagree with the "Wouldn't be surprised if they're working on something...." But that's the part that's a little disconcerting. Uniform change in Buffalo has almost always been for the worse. I imagine we'd get Banana Slug 2 out of the NFL design people.
  8. We should know by now that Buffalo sports teams don't listen to what the overwhelming majority of the fans want (e.g. Back to the Blue and Gold Crest). Gone are the days of having an easily-identifiable, traditional, sharp-looking tartan to wear into battle. We get the banana slug and pinstriping up the yin-yan. By the by, Marv said he won't be handling this stuff; football only for him. It's Russ Brandon who controls the business/marketing of the team. If what Chris Brown reports is true, then Russ Brandon is neither a good businessman, nor a good marketer.
  9. Zidane is known for largely ignoring the media. Word on the street is that Materazzi used a racial slur (a little ironic considering the statements each team has read before each match). Happened a lot after they won in '98 and I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. Still, ZZ shouldn't have reacted like he did.
  10. Rum | | | | | Coke | | | | | | | | | | | | |
  11. Goes to show that one shouldn't make presumptions of nationality based on an ascribation that any nation has the right and duty to protect itself when it's being attacked and its citizens held hostage, regardless of what the UN might say about it from their ivory tower. No, prol'y not.
  12. Could you send a memo to the Hartford Courant? They've been using 'zeitgeist' about 15 times a week.
  13. Whatever gave you that impression? No, stiff-upper-lip and keep-the-bats-in-the-belfry WASP New Englander.
  14. There's been talk in soccer about putting a chip in the ball. Then again, there's been talk of doing that for a lot of sports --- hockey, baseball, and football (where I think it would make the most sense, it being a game of less-than-inches).
  15. Not a penalty kick, but the No-goal in the France - Korea match had the potential to upset a team that is now playing in the final. Ended in a 1-1 tie rather than a 2-1 victory. The Korean keeper was inside the goal by a step and the ball bounced off his hand that was at his side. On replay, the ball had crossed the line, yet it happened so fast on the field that everybody was standing around with a expression and then play resumed.
  16. Challenge-based instant replay approved for U.S. Open
  17. I.e. how the US Open uses the Hawkeye replay thing to check close line calls. Stodgy Wimbeldon is rumored to be considering using it next year.
  18. What does that have to do with anything? It's a proper definition is all that matters. To wit, what about 'icing'? - stuff on a plane - stuff on a cake - a call in hockey Is one definition/usage of the word more acceptable than another b/c of its arbitrary order in the dictionary?
  19. It'll be interesting for sure. First wide-open race (meaning no incumbent or sitting VP running) since the '50s, iirc. Lots will be fleshed out on which direction the parties will be headed. Quite a few good candidates have been mentioned from both sides, and quite a few people who shouldn't be President of a McDonald's men's room. I'm still a registered Repub yet haven't voted that way in awhile (been meaning to change it for a few years now but our primaries don't mean jack-schitt anyway). Several times I've written in "None of the Above." I think there's about a 12% chance of getting that real fiscally-conservative candidate rather than said crazy baptist minister. Just the way it is now.
  20. Not for nothing, but after a resolution to the environmental impact stuff he had concerns about, Teddy is backing the wind farms now. It's actually Mitt Romney ® as the most notable who doesn't want the turbines out there (even tho they can't be seen from shore probably 80% of the time, and when they can, they're specks). More on all this here.
