  1. I see it's Pile-on-Madden time again.... He has made a hell of an improvement over his FOX days and the first year on MNF. I don't know if ABC got him a speech therapist or what, but I watched a dozen times the past couple of years and Madden was clear, fairly succinct and did exactly what a color analyst should do; good insight, a touch of whimsy, share stories. Michaels helps him stay on task. Same tonight (up until he kept saying 'hope' and 'prayer' when the guy was down --- but then again, what else are you going to say?). I think it also helps him to be at his peak when it's actually a contested game rather than a snoozefest, which many MNFs were recently. The new SNF has real promise after I earlier feared how Bush League NBC would be. Try listening to the guy instead of plugging your ears and yelling MaddenBad.
  2. And in some people's case, no matter how much information they provide --- and, ohh, do they provide --- they're still unintelligible.
  3. You mean the jagoff that suggested we 'CUT LINDELL NOW!!!' about two months ago?
  4. It was sarcasm w/o a hint that it was sarcasm. Which, especially in writing and I guess especially on the Internet, is hard to distinguish/flesh out. He took a few digs that one could call a joke, but also what one could call a little crass. Referenced Trebeck's roll-over accident, the show's new sets always using the same color of blue, etc.
  5. He kept doing it over multiple days, I saw somewhere. Tame, yes. Thing is, the "Mormon Assassin" probably thought they were real 'zingers.'
  6. I'm pretty sure it does not affect onsides kicks. Free kicks are done after a safety. ----- What happened to a rule re: players' hair length coming down over the nameplate e.g. Mike McKenzie? I remember a blurb (TMQ?) saying they'd visit that.
  7. Ken didn't do himself any favors for being invited back for tournaments, etc. with his blog's string of techie-dork insults ('You don't even have 256MB of RAM! Trebeck is a robot! Boo-yah!') for a show that gave him the opportunity to line his pockets with a cool $2.5M. Someone please inform him that his 15 mintues were up last year.
  8. Jay, be considerate to billsfanone and just put 20 snakes on his motherf--kin' plane instead of 50.
  9. Not that I remember seeing; I think candidates have to be, or it's an unwritten rule that they be in the party. There's a line for Greens in the state elections, most of the time with just 2 candidates. Lowell Weicker actually won the governorship back in.... 1990?.... under the "A Connecticut Party" he created.
  10. No, I'm pretty sure that if Lamont wins the Dem nomination, Lieberman cannot also run as a Dem. Some of the Letters to the Editor in the Hartford Courant have suggested the 'Connecticut Sour Grapes Party.' The seniority argument didn't work for Tom Daschle (granted... different circumstances) and I don't think it has much influence in this state, to be blunt. Of course, he'll certainly pull it out of his bag of tricks. The differences w/in the party and indeed the electorate come at some of the major, major levels.
  11. C'mon! An oil filter will last much longer than 4 days.
  12. Like, "Mr. President, what is your favorite color?" But yeah, that's a tough one. Ask Sir Gallahad.
  13. Pentagon brass: Iraq civil war is possible: Violence ‘is probably as bad as I have seen it,’ general testifies More and more, I find no comfort in the BS weasel words these people are selling. Could? I believe? Probably? Let's cut to the chase. Our boys are caught in the middle of a lead-up to a 'civil' war. I was willing to give the Pres. leeway when this started, but when even my brother --- a Raven who's shot in and out of that sh--hole half a dozen times --- says we should get the hell out of there, that's the sign things are unravelling quickly.
  14. No Happy Ending for Evangeline? Where is your compassion, sir?
  15. One question that hasn't been brought up in the state's coverage.... If Lieberman loses the primary but wins in the general as an Independent, does he have to (or, would) he stay an independent for the duration of his term, or could he pull a Jeffords and then switch back to Democrat? Also, one wonders how all of this is putting pressure on him. As Kelly said upthread, Joe seems to be a more principaled pol than to do a 180 change, but I don't think some tweaking is out of the question. The silence of his fellow Dems previously in his corner, e.g. Harry Reid, et al. has been loud. He's had Bill Clinton (DLC) shilling for him in the latest ad pleading that Joe is "a good Democrat." He burns a big bridge on the unquestioning nature of his war stance.
  16. Like a career-ending helmet shot to the knee, perhaps?
  17. Ooo. 81 appears to be right. Tho with Marv, one can never be sure....
  18. (I knew that, just exercising my summa cum laude degree in Smart-Ass.) Why are you calling her a "cold fish"? I've only ever seen her bake, grill or poach.
  19. I'm not saying he should lie. Just that he shouldn't expect/demand that he be elected as if it's his seat for life. B/c in the primary ads that run here, that's how he comes across. Along the margins, it's live with the party, die with the party. Joe is saying one thing and doing the opposite.
  20. People do respect honesty and integrity. But that doesn't mean they need to vote for it when they fundamentally don't agree with where said honesty and integrity was applied in their names. --- Ken, I heard the Lieberman camp was collecting signatures a few weeks ago. Let's hypothesize for a moment. The Dems pick up either 6 or 5 seats in the Senate, making it 51-49 or 50-50, with the caveat of Lieberman returning as an Independent. Senate control would then still reside with the Republicans. How can Joe be a 'Lifelong Democrat' when he puts his party in peril (just as he did in '00 by running the double bill, which would have left our crook of an ex-governor to appoint a replacement)?
  21. Kind of bush (league)? Kirwan needs to go back to Newswriting 101. When you report, you can't be a fan.
  22. Marv Levy is 80 today! On the board: WadeSux BillsFanNC firedawg ... and, oh yeah, ME! Other notables: Evangaline Lilly (of 'LOST' fame) Tom Brady (BOO!!!!) Martha Stewart Martin Sheen
  23. Uhmm.... 1) B/c we're not occupying Turkey, Syria or Iran. 2) B/c T, S & I have governments that can apparently handle law enforcement and relatively better police their country such as to prevent internal ethnic warfare.
  24. Interesting read, I thought. Never knew that the press room is built over a pool.
