  1. And Evangeline Lilly. And Joanne Kelly. And coincidentally.... wood. Lots of it.
  2. Somehow, I don't think CTM was advocating genocide as a perfectly moral solution to a problem. Simply that, through the course of human civilization, entirely getting rid of ones' enemies (be they real, imagined, created; for security, economy, political motives, etc.) and their ideals makes life easier for the genocider. To try a metaphor, if you kill your air hockey opponent, it's easier to get the puck in his goal so you can win. One can state this as a blunt fact w/o making a moral judgment. This is not a hard concept to grasp.
  3. So you're going to hire Oliver Stone to direct the movie version?
  4. By what logic do you blame Bledsoe for last season's crapfest?
  5. Everyone might also remember that teams do very little opponent-specific preparation/game-planning for preseason games. This is the time for vanilla. This is not a time when smart teams show their hand (as Meathead and JG did --- then again, the blitz comprised 95% of JG's defensive knowledge). JP throwing to a spot, as mentioned upthread, shows me that he's got a lot more polish (not Polish! ) to his game. But I do root for Nall, to push as much as he can. Also, I expect there will be emphasized work this week with the new center Fowler on the snap. This is the time to work the kinks out.
  6. I remember a game later in his career, against the Falcons I think in OP, Jimbo misfired and was picked. Tackled the guy at the sideline and broke the DB's leg. He later said that he was mad at his mistake and was trying to make up for it by making sure it didn't go back for 7. That, ladies and gents, is a football player. Make a mistake, all right, everyone does it; get back in the play and try to do better next time. I see a lot of the same level of spirit in JP. And remember that it was not JP who took himself out last year, it was Meathead who had unrealistic expectations for an essential rookie starter.
  7. How would everyone "want to see an athlete go out"? Career-ending injury? Shot by the Israeli mafia? Massive marijuana overdose? There's nothing wrong with a player sensing that he doesn't 'have it' anymore and deciding to retire. That's essentially what Jim Kelly did. Holcomb will not be retiring; he still thinks he can play. Based on what I've seen (amount of playing time, performance), Holcomb has lost quite a bit of ground in the perview of Marv and DJ. If he is retained here, you have to think it'll be as the #3, and I don't think his salary combined with such a thing taking away development time from a younger QB is playing in his favor. If he is released, he'll try to sign on with another team.
  8. I won't pardon the generalization. Travel outside of Fairfield and Litchfield counties. (And even in them, your statement isn't entirely accurate). I call bullsh--.
  9. This is kind of a big issue with a potentially big impact on the Constitution as to the defining which rights the govt must not cross in the name of protection. Is it that bad to want it to make its way to the SC? This is the a step in that process.
  10. I knew next to nothing about Lamont two months ago. The rest of CT too. The fact that he's closed this much of a gap in that short a time.... I didn't mean to create that 'It's Lieberman's race" impression, b/c it obviously is not. I didn't vote in the primary b/c I can't; still don't know who I'll vote for in the general tho I suspect that guy named 'None of the Above' has a good shot. Despite his own insistance to the contrary, Lieberman has staked a fairly far position from the Dem party. Which is why he lost. His support for war without end amen was the anvil that broke the horse's back, but he's been chipping off the block for a while. Everything from his crackdown on free speech and telling videogame makers and recording artists what they can put in their work ('Think about the children!'). Some of his votes in recent abortion-access issues have rankled people. In addition, JL gets the Republican vote, like I said, b/c of national security --- they are willing to single-issue-vote. Schlesinger's gotta be under a lot of pressure from the RNC to drop out, and if he doesn't want his ego bruised when he gets 4%.... JSP, is it possible for you to put the crap aside for a moment? So, the people of CT might not elect the person you would choose (Well, granted that b/c Ghingus Khan is dead....). *GASP* How dare they! They don't know what's good for them! This is not a JSP-ocracy we live in.
  11. I heard somewhere that Joe Buck was going to be the FOX pregame host.... Aikman, as much as I hated him as a player, is a real pleasure to listen to for the technical and side commentary that makes for a good color analyst. Doesn't go overboard and flail his arms, jump up and down for attention like a lot of guys do in the same spot. And I have to disagree a little and say that Madden has gotten much better in the past 2-3 seasons. I think ABC & NBC got him better handlers, or a speech coach or something. As has been said, it's not an easy thing to do.
  12. Lieberman leads opponents in new poll. Lieberman (I) - 53% Lamont (D) - 41% Schlesinger ® - 4% Joe's numbers dont so much surprise me. This is pretty much what has been forecast. It's just that Schlesinger's numbers are so low. I mean, CT is by-and-large a 'blue' state but not that blue. As I said upthread, lots of the Republican Lites and even many, nay, most hardcore Repubs seem to be willing to vote for Joe b/c of his national security stances, presumably. To say nothing else, we are practical people up here, and we stick with what works --- hence the "Land of Steady Habits" moniker. Quite telling that even Mehlman and Karl Rove are giving tacit support (tho they will deny this to any and all) for Joe-mentum. This has been and will continue to be an interesting race to follow, especially for it's impact on the national level; where the parties are, which direction they're going, etc.
  13. If you read his sister's book --- that at the time she titled 'nonfiction' but now that bro coulda been... coulda been...a contender, she refutes --- you'll discover that politics appeals to his nature. Taunt your opponent, beat them up, hang them over a railing over Niagra Falls.... And, given his family's (esp. mother's) origins, I call BS that he doesn't know what 'macaca/macaco' means. When you're in the public eye enough, you can sometimes fool people into thinking you're a nice guy, but it'll come to the fore eventually. Wonder if he'll call Musharraff a 'macaca'.... He stepped in a pile of doggie-doo. Does it derail an '08 campaign? Who knows... with his track record, there's a base who would vote for him, and sadly, some people who'd vote for him all the more b/c of this. But it doesn't give off that initial goodwill a candidate needs to attract independents.
  14. That's what everyone said about Leinart....
  15. I wish our QBs would stop having newspaper-headline-euphamism names. Playing the Flutie. Rob's Johnson. Bleed-so. Loss-man. Chris (Taking a) Leak.... 'Brady Quinn' is generic-sounding. (No, I'm not actually arguing we should select a QB by the arrangement of letters in their name).
  16. Like the guy who did two searches on becoming an ordained minister, then for "anal creampies"? Nice to see the clergy is attracting a better class of person.
  17. Unless their name is Kelly and they're Fair and Balanced.
  18. We'll see, in short order, just whose naked pictures are in the possession of Joe Burns. Conventional wisdom rules out GW or MM; since they're gone and he yet remains.... TD? Ralph? .... Chuck Lester?
  19. MCI has pictures of the cable-cutter, Jay. Only a matter of time before they match up your mug and send your linesman's pliers to CSI. Oh, wait. It's only the Rubeo children whose pictures will be splashed all over the front pages! Good thinking on the whole offspring-as-patsies milieu.
  20. I scanned through maybe half the story, and what I took from it was, VT was tanking it, trying to get NH to score a run to make it 9-9. That way, VT could put the kid up to bat in the bottom of the inning and be legit. The NH coach saw what was happening. I don't know about the 'last ups' rules. I guess it isn't/can't be played when that team already has the lead. Probably the same reason why tennis matches don't go to a 5th set tie-break after someone mathematically wins the championship 6-1 in the set. It's redundant..
  21. On a side note, my mum cleans in the dorm rooms at the U. Several years ago, she came home one day during the summer room turnover and put something on the shelf, asking, "I found this in one of the rooms. What is it? A vase or something?" "Uhhh... no, mom. No, it's not."
  22. FBI: No terror groups in cell phone case Something still smells rotten there.... And if the arbitrage from Mich-Wisc to Texas is that profitable, I guess the northern Wal-Marts might look into raising their price.
  23. From a NH team playing in a LLWS regional.... Cam Cundy. This kid is so going to hate high school. ;) (For those of you just returning from Happy Hour, switch the vowels).
  24. Well, it does make more sense that they'd only do one flavor per bottle.... Add a lot of them together and you're more likely to include one flavor that a person doesn't like. Better business practice to seperate them, as Jack reported on the bottle he got. BlueFire, maybe your roomie drank the bong water?
