BJ/CTM/DCT, you may as well go outside, find the nearest stone and conduct this same argument. You would fare better. Mr. Quixote can't pass up a windmill when sees one. I'm waiting with baited breath for him to get banned for his Nate Clements crusading.

In his last released film, "A Prairie Home Companion" I watched him and Garrison Keillor interviewed on Charlie Rose about it, which sold me. It's a movie about the last performance of a radio variety show, essentially the one of the same name on NPR. Keillor, who wrote the screenplay, said it was a film about death. Altman disagreed. (I agree with GK, and it now brings a bit more poignancy to the film, especially the ending with the angel of death.... ) It is a little heavy on the singing (good songs, tho, especially the dirty jokes one ) but I recommend it. It seems so rare that a director actually looks for the artistic and whimsical moments. Altman wasn't a director who had to have everything just so. He let people do their jobs. In the extras, they had an interview with Kevin Kline (great in this film) about this. Bob would be disappointed if he had to tell/suggest to an actor how to deliver a line, what mannerism to do as they spoke --- he expected them make their own decisions. RIP, Bob.

I would generally give them the thumbs down. Unless she's a really, really, really good writer and then, only if she keeps it brief. “Winter is coming, which simplifies everything and shows you that the essentials of life are heat, food, shelter, plumbing. The rest is decorative. The life that your wife writes about in the Christmas letter, the life of steady accomplishment and upward movement on life's graph, is mostly fiction. The reality is that we are all in over our heads. I am and you are. God help us. And so far He has. It could be worse.” -- Garrison Keillor

I don't think anyone is arguing with that, but the point trying to be made is they shouldn't take a free license to Taser everyone who acts irrationally. Was the 6-year in Florida acting irrationally? The elderly woman in Ohio who was sitting in a (hospital?) chair? The mentality that this is a "non-lethal" weapon directly relates to the inclination to use it for quick compliance in lieu of a peaceable resolution. Maybe I'm just suffering from the ideal that it's their duty to do their utmost to avoid this, whether it takes 10 minutes or 2 hours. That several officers collectively screamed at him "100 times" doesn't make the response correct, measured or appropriate. They did nothing to calm the situation and did a lot to agitate it.

It's a winning strategy while you have the luxury of a lead. We were running most of the day while we were either slightly down or slightly ahead against one of the highest-octane offenses in the league. In the end, it was an interesting strategy that almost worked... sort of. But you just know even if we'd scored a TD in place of Lindell's miss, Manning et al. would have smoked us right back. They were getting plays 13 yards a clip, no matter if they ran, passed or lit their farts on fire. They can move the ball like that; it's a consistent offense --- everything that we are not.

What's your point, Vanessa? -
Christmas is about 30% of the reason our economy has been so strong through the years. Now that we're hitting a slide, they need to start earlier and earlier to keep up the regular holiday spending and to make up for losses during the rest of the year. So yes, expect it start at Halloween in the near future. Circle-jerk retail --- people selling 'Made in China' crap to people who sell 'Made in China' crap, getting by on the margins of the strength of our dollar, while our trade defecit spirals into the abyss --- is about the only thing this country does anymore. We don't produce things. We buy other peoples' things and pretend that shuffling papers is real work.

It's something to think about, at what point would it be necessary to act in self-defense against the police/gov't. I wouldn't say that we're at "V for Vendetta", but it's closer than you think. The laws allowing this, allowing that, trickle down from the federal level such that paramilitary organizations are emboldened to do as they want. And then, the tone they set is ingrained in the entire population; to wit, small-scale crime is actually down, but violent crime (rape, murder, etc) has increased exponentially in this country --- by 400% in some areas. .... So, if he stays on the ground, exhausted from the tasing, he is 'resisting' and needs to be tased again. If he gets up he is 'resisting' and needs to be tased again. WTF is this, Monty Python?

Sorry to say that this is par for about 40% of university security/police, and it goes up during moments of tension. Granted that the guy was stupid for not picking up and leaving straight away, but that should not get you tasered several times in the USA. Not questioning the methodology is what the Blue Wall of Silence depends on when one of their own goes too far. What if this had been a diabetic situation? No difference, if you've ever seen one. They took the weaponized way out rather than actually doing police work and trying to resolve it through calming the situation down rather than ratcheting it up. It may take 10-15 minutes more, but no one needs to get tased. There's been several incidents with Tasers being used at times they shouldn't or for longer than they need to be. On the contrary to SnR's contention, I would submit that it is a classic boys with toys scenario. My brother is a city cop; he's seen it himself. As for the other students who were threatened and the comments generated here, what would you do if someone was in front of you and seeing a real-life version of what was on the video. Sadly, I think most people would have just stood there; most people stood around when the SS came, too. At what point would it have been self-defense to try to fight back? The first tase? The second, after you said you'd leave? The third?.... The fourth? As ubiquitous as the news stories are, they are not 100% safe; they can kill people. We can only hope for an independent investigation of this, and from what I saw, I hope these people find themselves on the other side of the law.

John Edwards is against Wal-Mart

If anyone ever read that article "Frank Sinatra Has A Cold" by Gay Talese, this is a lot like how Frank went to take a drive and came to find out that his car was at the garage getting painted orange. It's amazing the things people will do in response to even a passing remark of a 'famous' person. -

An attorney got home late one evening, after a very taxing day trying to get a stay of execution for a client, James Wright, who was due to be hanged for murder at midnight. His last-minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed. As soon as he got through the door at home, his wife started on him about, "What time of night do you call this? Where have you been?" and on and on. Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he went and poured himself a shot of whisky and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks. While he was in the bath, the phone rang. The wife answered and was told that her husband's client, Mr. Wright, had been granted his stay of execution after all. Finally realizing what a day he must have had, she decided to go upstairs to give him the good news. As she opened the bathroom door, she was greeted by the sight of her husband's rear end as he was bent over naked drying his legs and feet. "They're not hanging Wright tonight," she said. He whirled around and screamed, "FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, WOMAN, DON'T YOU EVER STOP?!!?"

A man sold a religious horse. He explained to the buyer that since it was a religious horse, you had to say "Amen" to make the horse stop and say "Praise the Lord" to make the horse go. The buyer got on the horse and said "Praise the Lord" and the horse started trotting. "Praise the Lord" he said again and the horse began galloping. "Praise the Lord" a third time and the horse ran even faster. Suddenly, just up ahead was a cliff — "Whoa! Stop!" The rider yelled, but the horse kept running. "Amen!" he finally remembered. The horse stopped right at the edge of the cliff. The buyer took off his hat, wiped his brow, and said, "Praise the Lord!"

Okay, that he is overly dedicating to the running game, kind of how he dedicated to remold the defense first last offseason and just made a few low-level plugs for the O. Build the run game first and then get a QB as a compliment. I'm actually down with that. It's Buffalo Bills football. Need to find the right RB, and I might be mauled here but I don't think that's Willis nor do I think it's smart to invest more into him when the avg. RB's career in the NFL is less than 2 years. I'd love to get a Jerome Bettis sized back. And the plan should include getting a good FB, like the kid from Georgia Tech.

Stop it with the logic, you... you... you big meanie!! The Borg Collective is saying we need to bring 45 Brinks trucks to RWS just to get players to visit. Newsflash! There are only 32 starting RT slots in the NFL. About.... 25 are set. There are 32 starting QB slots in the NFL. About.... 28 are set. And on and on and on. We already have spots that are solid; Marv just needs to go down the checklist. If someone wants to play, there are a finite amount of starting spots in this league. And if someone 'good' actually wants to sign with NE just to be a 3rd stringer, well f--- 'em, I don't want anyone with that mentality.
-
So... You're saying that Marv's plan all along, and into the future, is to have the offense fail?

Giuliani Takes First Step in Run for President
UConn James replied to EC-Bills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Don't know if he'd actually have the gall to do it or how faithful he is to the Republican party (he has keep a certain distance from this administration, for a reason you'd have to think), but it would be interesting if he decided to run as an independent ala Lieberman here in CT. I think it especially depends on whom they nominate --- if it's McCain he steps aside, if it's Gingrich, Frist or the like, it gets more interesting. His main strength is that he draws support from both parties and from many independents. -

How long until these players want out?
UConn James replied to generaLee83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You see, Mr. Quixote, the question was about the players' lack of desire to be here. Not the Bills desire to sign them to big contracts. One-track mind, you. -
How many penalties did Everett
UConn James replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like this is the first time it's ever happened? I think Bobby April is smart enough to teach the guys that you can't put yourself in that situation. Doesn't matter if you miss the punter/kicker by an inch; they are pros and can sell a penalty very easily. -

Two. Roughing the kicker, and then a false start. They were very close together, too. He should be forced to run back to OP from BIA. -
Amen. An interview with Man-gina after the game asked him about the handshake. The reporter said it looked like he was going in for handshake and a brief man-hug. EM was very gracious, deflecting it and just saying that the Pats were a great team. Belichick is an *.

The thing that strikes me about it is to see how much Rivers has progressed since his first start. Even just counting this year, JP has seriously regressed. You can't say he is at the same competency level as the Pats or Miami game. The play-calling is only bad b/c it's not being executed worth a sh--, and it starts with a QB that Fairchild has lost some confidence in.
