  1. Memo: When thou startest a new topic, be-est thou prepared to discuss, since thou seemeth so interested in it to beginneth. If you're not going to bother to say anything about something you post, why should anyone else here bother to say anything about it? You started the topic, which implies that you want to discuss it. That was part of the reason behind people asking, "What's your point?" (besides the obvious that a LOT of scientists believe in God despite your apparent belief that these things are mutually exclusive).
  2. Well, keep in mind that the Others have the tendency of completely abandoning a place once a non-Other sees it. The Patch Guy wanted his building to be blown up once it was discovered (he seemed to egg on Locke in the chess game by saying he had never beaten it; Locke loves a challenge). They will also willingly kill themselves to keep from divulging the least detail. And as Sayid said, even with so many people, they don't leave a trail behind them. Sawyer's becoming a better person may continue but it won't last. That's how his character is; you like him and you hate him. Last night it's like he was running for president and even after he realized he'd been had by Hurley, I think it struck him that he needs to do more for the group and that he is a leader.... (cue headbutting when Jack returns) but the Sun secret will come out. Juliet also has that air that Ben doesn't have. You know[i/] he's a manipulator. But notice who has been bringing the captives food (burgers for Jack, a sandwich for Kate). As a narrative tool, food=life, and the bringer of food is therefore seen as something of a nurturer/someone you can trust. The Others had her bring the food in for a reason. But even with her feminine wiles, Sayid is going to have her pegged toot sweet, doesn't matter that she's hot in that whole sophisticated-lady way. Speaking of food, anyone see the DHARMA A-1 steak sauce? This is just an aside but the A-1 plant used to be in Hartford, and my father said the air in that whole area of the city would smell of it and would make your mouth water. They moved out of the city a while back. Nikki and Paulo are dead. Based on what Sawyer and Hurley said, this was a day or two after the burial and there was no dig-out (the graveyard, as such, is not far away from the beach and would have been noticed). They were buried alive and suffocated. As I wrote last week, I think the most important part of their story is the diamonds they stole i.e. where they originally came from.
  3. Thanks for the fill-in. Some clarifications.... Locke did have the opportunity in S1 to know what Kate did/that she was a fugitive (I believe it was Hurley talking to him). His reply was that they all get a clean slate on the island and that he didn't want to know. Locke's progression has been a trip, for sure. He goes to the extremes this way, then the other (polar, you could say, with all that brings up) re: anger/calm, belief/doubt, vengence/forgiveness, control/weakness, activity/idleness, etc. That is one of the great things about his character. But this trait, I think, does allow him to be easily manipulated. In the 'chess match' with Ben, Ben is playing 20 moves ahead. The monster absolutely did seem more interested in Juliet than Kate (perhaps b/c it has encountered Kate before when she and Jack rescued Charlie). The flashes... it was almost like it was taking photos.
  4. Woo Hoo! I actually sat among about half of the women's team (and next to Sue Bird, who looks a lot nicer in person w/o her hair all slicked back ) in a gen-ed class. That said, I don't watch the games; don't like to watch too much TeeVee and I just have the networks via antenna. If you don't like doing or watching something --- this is America and that's a perfectly fine choice.
  5. I missed the Locke part (I have a mitigating factor that I was taking the pizzas out of the oven). What did he say? Simply that he was going with the Others? The unstated part being, because they had his father. That ep is gonna be goooood. BTW - Lindelof was one of the writers for last night; it seems that they always want one of the original creators of the show to be writing when the monster makes an appearance. And what was it with the bright flashes as Kate&Juliet were hiding in the banyan trees? Seems like they're tying the monster in to the wildlife on the island --- in S1 finale it was the owl apparently screaching 'Hurley!' before it appeared... last week with Paulo and Nikki it was the Medusa spiders that came and actually made one of the monster sounds before it showed. Juliet said she'd never seen the monster before (don't know if she's to be believed, and I'm sure Sayid will get it out of her next week). The monster was repelled by the pulse (electrical? sonic?) of those posts as K&J were going back to the Others' houses. Gets me wondering if that system was constructed mainly for the monster. I think so, too. The Others mostly seem to know what is available as public information. Juliet cited stuff that's found in marriage/legal records and driver's license. Again, I think so, too. Juliet is totally bad-ass. Catfight!

  7. "... but on the bright side, now I won't have to go for my evening constitutional!"
  8. That's my take on it, too. We've had a bit of luck with UDFAs lately.
  9. Chocolate ==> Easter ==> Jesus' crucifixion Are the Catholics outraged at the chocolate? Because it's edible? Do they not --- according to Catolic doctrine, after the father's blessing --- literally eat Christ's body at every communion? Are the Catholics outraged at the nudity? Do they think Jesus was without genitalia? How did He pee, then? A part of Christ's body is "sickening"? Blasphemy! And I thought it was common for the Romans to crucify people in the nude. But I guess there is some progress toward free speech (and what seperates us from most of the Muslim world) in that the Church didn't command to break it apart and behead the artist... tho we are only a couple of centuries removed from that.
  10. Have to agree, there. A major story involving their senator (who derives much of her support from the SF area) resigning a committee.... It should have run the next day. Even monkeys stringing together AP wire stories --- which is actually a pretty good rundown of what the Chronicle does; they are a joke even in the newspaper industry --- should've been expected to pick that up. If they're planning a big, in-depth story about it, well that would mitigate, but doesn't change the fact that something --- even if they used all manner of weasel words like 'might,' 'seems,' and 'apparent,' and even if it was 2 inches on page B13 --- should have been in there the next day. Even if a blurb was to simply say she resigned, but offered no reason. Someone made a choice not to run it.
  11. Is this your ad, mead? Just FYI, Vegas East Foxwoods & Sun are huge 'cruising' sites.

  13. If they kidnapped my dog? Eat glass, sand ni--ers!
  14. For sure. It'll be an interesting dynamic b/w them.... they became friends w/ what went down on the raft & with the tailies. Does that all change? What of Jin's communication barrier and not being able to fully comprehend Sawyer's (and Charlie's) reasons. On that subject, Sawyer definitely seemed to care what the other Lostaways were going to do with the guns as the reason he took them in the first place --- the chance that inexperienced people playing Rambo would hurt themselves more than their targets, and his own understanding of what happens when you kill someone. That you can't take it back, and Nikki, after some cooling off time, I think would have regretted shooting Paulo, much like Kate regrets the hurt or dead string of guys she's left behind. Close similarity b/w her and Kate. Tho, Kate's actions were all toward doing some greater good, even if misguided; Nikki's actions seemed driven entirely by the diamonds. And, too, you have to wonder about the diamond's backstory (they are as much a character now and have a story as any other thing). Where did they come from? How were they gotten by the filmmaker guy? For what purpose were they to be used? Conflict diamonds, perhaps (and a tie-in with Eko?)? And yet they did end up like B&S for the same reason. Lack of communication. Boone died b/c he didn't tell Shannon about the hatch; his letting her go was highlighted in those eps. I don't know how to reconcile that she died while chasing Walt's apparition, I'd have to think about that more.... But Nikki and Paulo were (perhaps) done in by their silence with each other re: the diamonds. (Something that when you think about it, has no real value on the island; their value was contingent on them being saved).
  15. Unless both Moorman (as both punter and holder) and Lindell tell Bobby April in camp that Whittle can do the job just as well as Schneck, that they are comfortable to a Tee.... you do not !@#$ with what has worked for the ST for two seasons now, after the problems they had before his arrival. Moorman's punts have gotten even better these past two seasons, such that he's been a Pro Bowl candidate... in gusty Buffalo(!). There were other factors for sure (inc. a left shoulder injury that threw off his technique a little), but Schneck came in and Lindell started drilling from 50+ with the best of them. I remember seeing a quote from him at the time that it was due to the new LS. For all the guff about kickers being a "dime a dozen" bringing together this STs unit was TD's best move. Don't blow it up to try to prove him wrong.
  16. I am less well read than the average bus driver. I don't need to read what a bunch of spewing idiots think in order to know what's good goings-on and what's bad goings-on.
  17. 2) Preaching to the choir. Didn't know about the CGi, but, what, they bring Shannon & Boone 14 hours to Hawaii to shoot ~ 10 seconds of screen time? Methinks this was shot a while ago (weren't they also in a previous S3 ep?) 3) Told you I'm ~70% for hearing. If I turn the volume up, I get berated for having it "so loud!" 5) Do tell.
  18. Pooj, this is not a thread condusive to any kind of joke.
  19. One question I always have in the flashbacks is, did they film those all the way back then? Had to've for the beach scene, b/c the wreckage was cleared out shortly into S1.... And you know, that just gives me a good feeling that the writers/producers had this all planned out, shot, and shelved since even back then re: where the storyline was going and at what pace. It was nice to see some 'classic' Lost footage with different angles and other sundries (ala Locke's "Nothing stays buried on this island for long). Also got some timeline detail fill-in. They found the plane before Locke & Boone (yet failed to tell anyone), and the Pearl was exposed. So.... Nikki and Paulo buried alive? We shall see, but it looks like it. With the gibberish Nikki said wasn't decipherable (turned out to be "Paulo's alive") I still saw it coming the whole ep; they kept showing the paralyzed bodies with their eyes still open in a plain narrative giveaway. The spiders seemed to make the monster noise, if my ears don't deceive me (I'm at ~70% ). Also, make note of yet another black/white imagery --- the white of the diamonds in the black pouch. Charlie told Sun it was him who 'attacked' her; let's see if Desmond has to shortly save him from the wrath of Jin.
  20. Isn't videotape/photographs of soldiers being detained/captive against the Geneva Convention? Or is that only when they're being shown in a 'humiliating' manner or somesuch? Maybe the UN will put Iran on double-secret sanctions.
  21. I wouldn't care two sh--s to sundown if they were fired for political reasons. That's any president's constitutional right. Thing is --- to me --- you'd better be ready to freely admit to any and all that they were fired for political reasons. And if you don't want to accept the heat that comes with that, then you'd better rethink your moves or come up with a better reason. This isn't about what DCT/CTM/BJ touts as simple bad marketing; it's the admin's culture to flat-out lie when they think what they do won't be received well. The American people don't like it when they're lied to, time and time again. Tell the truth from the start and there's 100x less of a problem.
  22. Pardon him. BL copied VABills' math homework.
  23. Well, if they are "follies," then why the sh-- not jettison them? You need to erase your mistakes before you can write the equation right. I'm simply blown away by your wit and pessimism. It's just so sexy. What are you wearing?
  24. Whhoo-oooo! I'm impressed. Someone get this man a white hot.
  25. There are far worse things in this world to be depressed about than a game where grown men struggle over an oblong-shaped piece of air-filled synthetic leather.
