He was funny?

A comment on the WH computer systems.... I had an instructor back at uni who was a speechwriter for a former CT governor. This was back in the early '80s. There was a function at the WH for which they were invited. His wallet was stolen in DC. The security gate had a full-color picture of his driver's license and verified his info w/in 5 minutes. And as I said, this was in the early '80s. In keeping with presidential records laws, all communications need to be archived. There's no personal email for the prez. His West Wing staff have their own, if memory serves this was a point of contention in the Plame scandal for Rove whether emails from those machines/addresses are covered by executive privilege. Historically --- and going to current day --- presidents who wish to send anyone a message had/have to go through the WH secretary or... do it in person, I guess. Why would Obama need male enhancement? He's black.

Al Gore for Climate Change Czar?
UConn James replied to finknottle's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The 'Yes, (Prime) Minister' re-airs on our PBS are must-watch for me. Gem of a show (even if it is a bunch of limeys ). As time passes, it seems more like a documentary than a sit-com. -
I haven't forgotten about it either. The Pats* are well on their way to drubbing us like the Dolphins did in the '70s (minus the 2003 opener fluke). The fact that some people here don't care or still don't see them as our biggest rivals boggles my mind. 55-10. If I were in Jauron's shoes, whenever we play them, I'd be screaming, I WANT SOME BUTT! I WANNA SEE SNOT BUBBLES COMING OUTTA THEIR NOSES. I WANNA SEE THEIR QUARTERBACK LIMPING. I WANNA SEE THAT PUNK WILFORK GET A TASTE OF HIS OWN DAMN MEDICINE! I DON'T CARE IF YOU NEED TO TAKE A PENALTY OR TWO WHEN THEY'RE DEEP IN THEIR HALF. SCREW FINESSE! MAKE THEM HURT!! All we ever get, tho, is "Ho hum."

Needed? Probably not. Might be wise for the Dems to keep Lieberman in the fold, tho. I hear that Reid basically wants/ed to strip him of chairmanships (Homeland Security and Environment). Well... if that's what they want to do there's no stopping them. I think, however, the country would be better served by putting someone at the head of the table who has experience and knowledge. Electioneering and the pettiness should be over; actual governance is what's important in the coming years. Good to see that Obama is actually sending this message, publicly at least.

Yeah, no sh--. Thing is, by the logic, the Arabs might respect Hillary more, seeing as she has a penis.

Tactically, getting Daschle and Richardson into the Obama admin would be wiser than giving up known-quantity seats in the Senate. Kerry and Clinton would be replaced by people of lesser stature/clout. Then again, for Kerry, who's just starting to enter into the twilight of a long political career might be happy to serve 4 years (or 8) in hands-on govt work (a different animal than being a pontificate in the senate), then kick back a little, and in the meantime, give someone else a chance to establish a brand in Mass. But with Daschle and Richardson, there'd be no abdication of a national seat in order to take a spot in the WW or the cabinet. Agree that Richardson would be a wise Sec of State choice for reasons of experience, knowledge and the respect he'd bring, even if he is a bit of a hokey bumbler. I've heard that Daschle is most likely to head HHS. Are there any whispers on the national security post? Kind of an important one....

veterans! what was the most important thing
UConn James replied to loyal2dagame's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Speaking for two uncles (one who was in graves registration --- an MOS with an extraordinarily high post-war suicide rate) and several other Vietnam-era vets I've worked for/with, and a brother who did a stint in Bosnia and 3 tours in the GWOT --- the most important thing they took from their service was PTSD. -
Dude, there's no such thing as an ex-Marine.

B/c then, maybe the league will start giving us regular sympathy f--ks. 'Bout the last 10 years, the NFL has helped teams so they can make up their overarching stories. The 'Patriots' winning the SB after 9/11, and their help from the refs. Georgia Frontiere's team winning the SB. Bettis winning a SB in his last season. Teams like the Bills don't fit into the WWF's NFL's plans.

A Few Thoughts About The Game
UConn James replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sad but true. Watch other teams play football and you see football. The Bills have turned into pure daint. They ask the other team for some Grey Poupon. They teach technique and draft/sign for finesse rather than good-old nastiness and grit. The Bills having a fullback is like how us humans have the last bony vestiges of a tail. This guy is not a fullback. Sam Gash was a fullback. Then, someone decided this team shouldn't play like that. This has been happening for a while now, so it's not only the current regime. My finger points at Ralph. -
Dick has no Sack & Turk has no Clue!
UConn James replied to kbuckley9091's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Turk seems to have turned into the anti-Fairchild. Instead of the pass being the red-headed stepchild, now it's the run. With colder weather in Buffalo, and Monday night next week probably near freezing, it's gonna be a treat watching the WRs try to catch with frozen hands. This reason is why Buffalo was always run-first, smash-mouth, we know you know what's coming and we're going to run it all over your a--es anyway. We're not the team we need to be. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game
UConn James replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rather, DJ hasn't picked players or developed schemes that allow us to go for it on short yardage. Screw bruiser fullbacks! Who needs'em... with their busting holes this and blocking tacklers that! Who wants run-blocking OL when there's DBs to be had?!!? We do have 'finesse' and 'technique.' That should count for something... right? -
If DJ used the Mike Singletary approach to get his message across on how the team and coaches are performing, he'd have to drop trou and then drop his boxers.
-
And that truth is the scary part. We were actually in this game with ~ 2:00 left, score-wise.

A Few Thoughts About The Game
UConn James replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, you can understand his reasoning, can't you? I mean, if it didn't work last week, there's no way in hell it'll work this week, or ever again! Let's just never try to run the ball. Let's never try to project this image that we'll try to win a game by grasping it and taking it rather than pretend this is all like one of those scrimmages in July. In fact, let's just forfeit the rest of our games while DJ is coach. It's just easier that way. Show up, hear somebody do the anthem, maybe show the Bills Shout song on the HD scoreboard, then go home. Everybody'll still get paid and nobody gets hurt. -
Does anyone think RW will make changes after the season
UConn James replied to saundena's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I've said before, Ralph is like the old dude with a house on the corner with the peeling paint, fallen walls and cracked chimney. He'll have the lawn mowed and the leaves raked, but no way in hell does he want to do too much to the house b/c he's not going to see anything from spending coin and time improving the place. This is the biggest reason why they're not changing to the throwbacks full time and why he quashes anything about a new stadium. He's content to just manage things until he eats dirt and let the next fool worry about it. Just sucks that we have to live in this house of disrepair until that time. -

A Few Thoughts About The Game
UConn James replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was in and out most of today. I figured this would be a rough oner to watch, and the leaves needed to be done so I could do the winterizer.... Saw just before the half up through our first possession of the 2nd half. Score was 13-3, we have 3rd & 1 and we go with a silly out pass and punt from ~ 40, not even wanting to try a FG. If you don't have the ball sack to go for it on 4th & 1, what the hell are you doing WCO on the 3rd. Like we don't have running backs? Well... This is sick. This WCO hybrid will not work as the later months get here. Gregggggg proved this. Buffalo should be a smash-mouth running team and we're not --- last time we made the playoffs we had Gash, and until we can run it down their throats even tho they know it's coming, no one will respect the run and we'll keep losing to good teams and getting a few Ws against the dregs of the league. Getting a line that can actually do something would help too. It may be sacrilege here, but one almost yearns for the days of Steve Fairchild. Almost. From what I hear, the DL put on a heck of a show today.... for me to poop on! 5-1 was a sham. -

Passed by a house last night on the way home...
UConn James replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
I've actually left mine up for the past couple of years on the red/white trim tool shed. They're pretty small and clear, not the colored ones. Reasoning: It's pretty precarious to be putting them up and down (~20 foot cliff to the back, which you want to get lights on b/c it is visible from a different part of the house). I don't plug them in very often outside of the holidays (these are the only exterior Xmas lights I really go in for)... sometimes on summer nights, it's nice. There is a difference b/w just having them up for practical purposes and lighting them up et al way out of season. -
Well, the salient point being made was that the state Democrat primary voters (always a fraction of the voters, and in 2006, the fervent antiwar Lamont supporters showed up at the primary (one of the perils of democracy is that it only counts those who bother to show up to vote, and in these days of 50-hour workweeks...), rather than even the general Democrats of the state much less the national Democrat party, tho, several in the national party and the 'progressive Internet media eg salon.com who're wary of his defense/Iraq positions took the opportunity to call on JL to abide with the party and step aside. He refused, ran Ind., won pretty handily, and caucused with the Dems. But JL has been distancing more and more. By the tenor of his pc yesterday, Reid probably told Lieberman he can caucus, but kiss goodbye to the chairmanships (read: you will have d--k for influence). My take is that Joe is probably going to consider caucusing Republican, or more likely will be a true independent.
