  1. Can only hope that the clue stick whacks Russ Brandon in the head after it's reflecting off the Sabres management re: unis. Dark colors and "edge" were cool for about 5 minutes in the mid-to-late 90s. Not that the six-color abortion of the Bills full-time unis was ever a cool design. This would take an intern about two hours to turn around. Everything's already in place. It's a combination of stupidity and Old Man Syndrome that holds up bringing back some tradition to a franchise that's grown stale.
  2. Wait... what!? Those must be some peculiar-looking chickens.
  3. We found a British George II half-penny dated 1751 in our garden. Patina was almost black. Curiously, at that time, this place was dense wilderness.
  4. My grandfather was a farmer in WNY (that's kind of how I became a Bills fan) and passed it down to my uncle 20+ years ago. My grandfather died a few years ago at 96. I can appreciate your story. All kinds of stuff gets everywhere until the earth pushes it to the surface. At least your watch story wasn't like the one in Pulp Fiction.... You say it's in bad shape, but can it be cleaned up and get it running? Watches back then were often pretty good quality. It would be nice to have/use something that was your grandfathers, no? I inherited an old leather wallet (empty) and I tossed my newer one in a drawer and started using this one. Maybe I'm just sentimental like that.
  5. He hasn't acted in the best interest of the team or the fans in the last 15 years. I will show appreciation and respect when Mr. Wilson finally decides to reciprocate.
  6. Another practical answer is that if a woman doesn't want a child enough that she'll snuff it out in its genesis, if forced to by the law, she also wouldn't care very much about it after its brought to term. At the risk of being labeled something I'm not, I will point out the fact that 80 percent of abortions are performed for residents of inner cities. We have enough unloved children with parents who can't be bothered to give a crap, feeding at the public trough and becoming a burden to society, and having an extremely high likelihood of a life of drugs and crime. It's just not practical for society to pick up the tab nor are there nearly enough homes to adopt all of these children if they're required by law to be born. The more misanthropic I get in my older age, the more people who feel they're owed something just for being here and who hurt others b/c they're pissed about their lot in life, the less morally absolute I become. I don't advocate abortion from the rooftops, nor do I think people of whatever color skin pigment shouldn't breed, etc. It would be best if birth control were used and effective 100 percent of the time, but we don't live in that world, and so we arrive at a nitty-gritty. If a woman/couple is not going to care for or about her/their children, then it's probably better that they have the decision to not have them, and for this choice to be made at the earliest possible stage. Speaking as a borderline libertarian, this life is all about choices and dealing with the consequences. Running to the state and saying that Mary shouldn't be allowed to do X because I plum just don't agree with it is the worst kind of politics. The axiom holds that if you don't want to have an abortion, don't have one. Just as I don't want someone else having control over me, I don't deign to make other peoples' choices for themselves when they weigh their circumstances. On the legal front, almost 40 years on from Roe, the notion of stare juris has taken a firm hold. It would be specious for abortion law to change back and forth every time the political balance of the court changes. For something as big as a definition of murder, it needs to be a national coda rather than this definition varying from state to state. There's wiggle room for the law to change about parental notification, pre-procedure counseling, etc. but the core of the law has been set.
  7. Actually, "... whose it is" would be the best thread title ever.
  8. I don't like Tom Brady any less than anyone here, but using a single frame as an indictment is crap. They do double cheek kisses in France. Lord knows someone was filming this, and if these people had actually locked lips, they would have posted video. They don't, so they used a frame-grab to imply a kiss. TMZ is a bunch of parasites.
  9. Another version for George Lucas to trickle-release, in the hopes that the cult-obsessed will buy one each of the VHS... the remastered VHS... the DVDs... the remastered DVDs... the Special edition DVDs... the Blu-ray (I think next year?)... the Special edition Blu-ray... the 3-D DVD... then the 3-D Blu-ray. Never-ending business from one movie series. I caught part of Episode II during a family party and haven't seen Episode III yet. Amazingly, life has gone on.
  10. So was Bobby Shaw. But, that cut by Mularky seemed to light a fire under some asses that season. I think it was the right message to send. Trent had 4 seasons. Four. It says, you'll get a fair shot. But no matter how well you practice Monday through Saturday (or play during the preseason), if you can't produce on Sundays when games matter, you're gone*. I think most NFL players will respect that a coach is trying to do a job as well, that he's taking steps that he believes will make the team better, and they know that his ass is on the line too. * unless your name is Chris Kelsay. Then, you're given extensions for tens of millions of dollars.
  11. Call 911 for a lost ATM card? OK....
  12. I may give it tonight. Depends on my mood. 1) The Secret Service guys were all jumpy and noticeable, before anything happened. They're supposed to be very subtle and more or less blend in. Don't know why this show had to jump that particular shark in the first episode to establish that Blair Underwood is the president and everyone's hustling around him and he has security up the ying-yan. Can hardly believe this is from the same network that gave us "The West Wing." 2) The flashbacks are very badly cut. There is no visual cue. LOST was excellent in this regard with fade-ins, eyes opening, noticeably different-aged characters, VW mini-buses or something to establish that our timeline was shifting. We got no help in this pilot. 3) If they were going to do that effect anyway, why not start it out as a small blue wormhole a little earlier and gradually increase the size? As you're watching it, the wind and noise came from nothing. BTW - wind and noise and the plane disappears. Wooooo. Maybe it was David Copperfield. But really, it was SPOILER aliens. 4) As Dank wrote, if they don't want it to be compared to LOST, they shouldn't have used so many of the same devices. Out of the new fare, I watched Hawaii 5-0 (mostly on good will for Daniel Day Kim) and Undercovers (created by J.J. Abrams) and enjoyed them for what they were.
  13. Another thing was how much noise and suction in the air when the plane was still half a mile away. Like I wrote, the production value is cheap. I could excuse that if the actors didn't all overplay their parts. The thing about LOST was that by the end of the pilot, the actors fit their characters like a glove. In 'The Event' all I'm seeing is a bunch of people going through the motions.
  14. So, what you're saying is you didn't bother to read the last paragraph of the article.
  15. For one, it opens the hospital up to lawsuits that X patient didn't get appropriate care from this nurse because of a personal slight. When you're talking about millions of dollars, this is an easy decision. People need to wake up and realize that their words have repercussions, even "in the heat of the moment." Guy in Hartford kills 7 because he was caught stealing beer from his employer and fired, guy kills his family because his wife/gf cooked his eggs wrong, and a thousand other examples of people removing themselves from consideration of a future state/heaven. What is it with the level of pure anger in this country? More than it's ever been. That when someone breaks the rules, it's somebody's else's fault for pointing out that they've broken the rules... not that the law ought not to have been broken.
  16. This is a modern take on heads being mounted on pikes. Complete lack of respect. Someone needs to conduct a rescue attempt.
  17. Yeah. IMO, there is an air of this being a pre-emptive action. As the losing continues (which, it looks very much like it will) there will be fan blowback, and it's not entirely stupid of them to remove the most visible evidence / means of disgruntlement. But also, I wouldn't be surprised if the walls are covered with advertisements (like the video screens soccer fields during the World Cup) in the near future.
  18. Dude, how much time does he put into that signature? Wow.
  19. Watched it and thought (besides ripping off LOST) the production value was very cheap.
  20. Actually Edwards doesn't make all that much. Still on his rookie contract, which was as a 3rd rounder. IIRC, it's something like $500K per year. I've also missed Bill in NYC's comments, but I also realize that he may be tiring of trying to eke out the one or two bright spots of these games. When everyone's playing like sh--, there comes a point when parsing gameplay is just not fun anymore, and I think a good many of us are there. And so, b/c the team stinks, the discussion here gets pretty nasty / negative, and we're seeing oldtime posters like Lori et al. go away b/c the level of discourse here has gone downhill.
  21. Sez Cornell Green, who double-teamed a DE that was already contained by Levitre, as Matthews sailed by and took his QB's head off. When you're a big part of the problem with "the execution," you ought to STFU.
  22. Given our QB situation, I'd be in favor of going to a base 3-RB Wildcat offense. Can't be any worse. Wildcat was about the only time they actually moved the ball against a regular defensive set. I, too, am running out of reasons to watch. Took the dog for a walk in the 2nd half today. I might care again when anyone in the Bills franchise does.
  23. Entirely my biggest miff, as well. For a king, producing an heir to ensure continuity of rule --- was the utmost concern of his reign. They would announce the birth of a son proudly. It provided a sense of stability to the people. Ignoring this and/or leaving fans in the dark has been one of the biggest shortcomings in the past ~10 years. One thing to wonder whether we'll have a good QB, quite another to be left wondering whether we'll still have a team in the not-distant future. I wish it were addressed without the relative vagueness that has existed.
  24. In all the talk about LA getting the Bills.... Just ask, "Don't you guys want a good team?" Literally, any other team or starting from scratch would be easier than trying to rebound this roster.
  25. Edwards has a definite defeatist angle to it. It's one thing to say 'We didn't play well tonight' and another to say 'Not playing well is something we should be resigned to b/c mistakes are the nature of the NFL.' Bringing all to mind, I have to give Edwards a  for the come-as-it-may/this-is-just-another-job attitude. An NFL QB needs to actually give a crap about what he does for a living.
