  1. I may give it tonight. Depends on my mood. 1) The Secret Service guys were all jumpy and noticeable, before anything happened. They're supposed to be very subtle and more or less blend in. Don't know why this show had to jump that particular shark in the first episode to establish that Blair Underwood is the president and everyone's hustling around him and he has security up the ying-yan. Can hardly believe this is from the same network that gave us "The West Wing." 2) The flashbacks are very badly cut. There is no visual cue. LOST was excellent in this regard with fade-ins, eyes opening, noticeably different-aged characters, VW mini-buses or something to establish that our timeline was shifting. We got no help in this pilot. 3) If they were going to do that effect anyway, why not start it out as a small blue wormhole a little earlier and gradually increase the size? As you're watching it, the wind and noise came from nothing. BTW - wind and noise and the plane disappears. Wooooo. Maybe it was David Copperfield. But really, it was SPOILER aliens. 4) As Dank wrote, if they don't want it to be compared to LOST, they shouldn't have used so many of the same devices. Out of the new fare, I watched Hawaii 5-0 (mostly on good will for Daniel Day Kim) and Undercovers (created by J.J. Abrams) and enjoyed them for what they were.
  2. Another thing was how much noise and suction in the air when the plane was still half a mile away. Like I wrote, the production value is cheap. I could excuse that if the actors didn't all overplay their parts. The thing about LOST was that by the end of the pilot, the actors fit their characters like a glove. In 'The Event' all I'm seeing is a bunch of people going through the motions.
  3. So, what you're saying is you didn't bother to read the last paragraph of the article.
  4. For one, it opens the hospital up to lawsuits that X patient didn't get appropriate care from this nurse because of a personal slight. When you're talking about millions of dollars, this is an easy decision. People need to wake up and realize that their words have repercussions, even "in the heat of the moment." Guy in Hartford kills 7 because he was caught stealing beer from his employer and fired, guy kills his family because his wife/gf cooked his eggs wrong, and a thousand other examples of people removing themselves from consideration of a future state/heaven. What is it with the level of pure anger in this country? More than it's ever been. That when someone breaks the rules, it's somebody's else's fault for pointing out that they've broken the rules... not that the law ought not to have been broken.
  5. This is a modern take on heads being mounted on pikes. Complete lack of respect. Someone needs to conduct a rescue attempt.
  6. Yeah. IMO, there is an air of this being a pre-emptive action. As the losing continues (which, it looks very much like it will) there will be fan blowback, and it's not entirely stupid of them to remove the most visible evidence / means of disgruntlement. But also, I wouldn't be surprised if the walls are covered with advertisements (like the video screens soccer fields during the World Cup) in the near future.
  7. Dude, how much time does he put into that signature? Wow.
  8. Watched it and thought (besides ripping off LOST) the production value was very cheap.
  9. Actually Edwards doesn't make all that much. Still on his rookie contract, which was as a 3rd rounder. IIRC, it's something like $500K per year. I've also missed Bill in NYC's comments, but I also realize that he may be tiring of trying to eke out the one or two bright spots of these games. When everyone's playing like sh--, there comes a point when parsing gameplay is just not fun anymore, and I think a good many of us are there. And so, b/c the team stinks, the discussion here gets pretty nasty / negative, and we're seeing oldtime posters like Lori et al. go away b/c the level of discourse here has gone downhill.
  10. Sez Cornell Green, who double-teamed a DE that was already contained by Levitre, as Matthews sailed by and took his QB's head off. When you're a big part of the problem with "the execution," you ought to STFU.
  11. Given our QB situation, I'd be in favor of going to a base 3-RB Wildcat offense. Can't be any worse. Wildcat was about the only time they actually moved the ball against a regular defensive set. I, too, am running out of reasons to watch. Took the dog for a walk in the 2nd half today. I might care again when anyone in the Bills franchise does.
  12. Entirely my biggest miff, as well. For a king, producing an heir to ensure continuity of rule --- was the utmost concern of his reign. They would announce the birth of a son proudly. It provided a sense of stability to the people. Ignoring this and/or leaving fans in the dark has been one of the biggest shortcomings in the past ~10 years. One thing to wonder whether we'll have a good QB, quite another to be left wondering whether we'll still have a team in the not-distant future. I wish it were addressed without the relative vagueness that has existed.
  13. In all the talk about LA getting the Bills.... Just ask, "Don't you guys want a good team?" Literally, any other team or starting from scratch would be easier than trying to rebound this roster.
  14. Edwards has a definite defeatist angle to it. It's one thing to say 'We didn't play well tonight' and another to say 'Not playing well is something we should be resigned to b/c mistakes are the nature of the NFL.' Bringing all to mind, I have to give Edwards a  for the come-as-it-may/this-is-just-another-job attitude. An NFL QB needs to actually give a crap about what he does for a living.
  15. Sounds like they might have a future with the Chinese prostitutes (in China) who apparently are being taught how to drink responsibly while they are *ahem* "working," for the tidy sum of $2.6 million of our economic stimulus money. Don't know about you, but I can't think of anything worse in this world than a drunk prostitute... in China. The further you dig down into what actually went into this tax-and-spend mega-orgasm, the worse it gets. Links to documentation are included in the expanded description beneath the video. "It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their choice, if the laws are so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; [or] if they... undergo such incessant changes that no man who knows what the law is today can guess what it will be tomorrow." --- James Madison
  16. RL also had shoulder problems that threw off his form. Yes, you might not think it, but the upper body has a role in kicking. He had surgery the offseason before he magically got better (even tho at that point, he was still one of the most consistent kickers in Bills history, percentage-wise). Lot of people blamed him on some tough kicks in tough conditions (specifically the game against the Steelers 3rd-stringers where a second quarter tying FG got absolutely pummeled by a gust of wind). His kickoffs often go just inside the 5, but you know, Bobby April was quoted in the BN saying that's where he (April) wanted them placed.
  17. Doubt it. That's like a robber going to court and suing a fence for not giving full value for what he steals.
  18. Wouldn't be surprised if the league is noting the numbers that these sites get, for their own research. I wouldn't be surprised if the current DTV deal is the last one given, at least in exclusivity. Lots of other modalities are coming to the fore now, not the least of which is online streaming getting so much better and the NFL network. The links are a small gauge on what Internet viewing might garner.
  19. And yet, over-rated POS QBs have a fairly good track record when they play the Buffalo Bills... (see: Ryan Leaf, Chad Pennington, Jay Fiedler, Brady Quinn, et al) *sigh*
  20. Ever notice how these kinds of topics are only popular among teams which have a pile of warm sh-- for QB?
  21. From worst to first! Maybe the Bills could take a cue. Same situation --- unis that 75% of fans hate and a classic throwback that 90% love. Get 'er done, Russ! (I don't see anyone in their right minds actually buying that 3rd script jersey. That looks terrible.)
  22. IIRC, one of the Texans DE or LB position coach either used to coach for the Bills and/or they run the same system. As for AS, I think he was vastly overpaid and it sucked that he didn't have much for a team around him, but I wish him the best. Lawyer Milloy suited up for us several seasons ago on about 4 days notice. It can be done. This kind of scenario only further cements in most peoples' minds the need to reduce the preseason. So many of these players think they don't need training camp or preseason? OK --- make it so.
  23. Thanks! Especially for the espn3.com games. UConn - Michigan on ABC Saturday afternoon. Gentlemen, last year @ Notre Dame was the real introduction. We're officially in the big-time. There are whispers, too, of UConn joining the "Big 10" which is now unofficially a Big 12. In an outgoing email, the recently-departed UConn president Hogan (went to U Illinois for the $$$, which is all he was about here too for he and his favorites) intimated --- actually, he sent an emoticon wink --- at such a move to the current AD, Jeff Hathaway. Anyway, it would probably be a better option than continuing with the Big East charade that gets raided every time a program improves or a coach gets big. Some go to the ACC, some to the Big 10, etc. to form the 16-team conferences. Ultimately, it's what needs to happen. Let's see how long it takes to get there.
  24. Comodo seriously screwed up my brother's (Vista) laptop Internet connection using both his and ours. The problem started when he installed it, and as soon as he uninstalled it, it connected on the required reboot. From what I saw, it was very much one of the 'The Sky is Falling! every three seconds' kind of AV. I hate the companies that put this kind of crap out there. When I got my new laptop 4 months ago, I wiped out the 12-month free Norton stuff and installed Avast! on the recommendations in the thread in the Consumer Forum here on TBD. It's been great. Updates itself, doesn't hog resources and it does its thing quietly until/unless there's a problem.
  25. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson violated rules, steered scholarships to relatives Which begs the question of how well publicized these scholarships were. With so many college kids scouring the earth for scholarships the past 20 years, I'm guessing the notice was posted on the Johnson family fridge. TX Rep. Johnson Gave 23 Scholarships to Relatives and Associates
