One of my favorites. His songs were such rich stories in themselves, which is surprising when they're each only a few minutes. Retribution for getting hustled, the code of the seedier side of areas, and some great broken romance tunes. There are a lot of artists who'd be ecstatic to have Jim Croce's songbook in an entire career, nevermind in under 10 years of performing.

Trailers usually kill any desire I may have had to see a movie. That one actually piqued my interest. ---- On topic, I was always a DC Comics type as a kid; never got into Marvel so these recent superhero movies have never lured me in. I collected The Flash into my teens, so it's awesome to hear that JJ Abrams is/was connected with an adaptation.

I think she's also saying that increasing taxes on these big, bad companies via carbon credits will not simply result in higher costs for goods/services for middle and lower income people. It may have been grounded toward the hard sciences, but Newton's "every action has an equal and opposite reaction" law has a firm logical basis in the social sciences / life in general. Then again, I'd hazard a guess that most of the Democrat base don't gear toward science & math beyond parroting talking point numbers.

Soldiers aren't supposed to keep dogs in the current war zones, but Target's story is one example of how they are so useful. A dog's nose is better than IDs. On my brother's last deployment to Afghanistan (he just got back stateside last week from his current one) they kept dogs at the outposts for heat at night. Gives new meaning to that '60s band name, Three Dog Night, yes? That is so sad. Blame on all sides here that brought about the sequence of events, tho. If the dog had a license / tags, it wouldn't have happened.

I share many of the Tea Party ideals and for the GOP to focus on defense and economic issues. Despite this, I can't stand Sarah Palin and her train wreck of a family. From her annoying voice, to her bathing in ignorance, to her QUITTING her governorship when the going got tough. Is she going to quit the presidency if/when Democrats win in her midterm? I think she's on the right side of the issues at the end of the day, but Palin cannot be the face of this takeback. Her nomination would gift Obama a second term. I want someone who has a proven track record of an ability to come in and turn around bad situations. As such, Mitt Romney is my #1 choice. He took over a total clusterf--- of the SLC Winter Olympics, his administration finished the Big Dig despite him being handcuffed by Massachusetts bureaucracy and unable to fire the Transportation chief, and his leadership during the flooding / major dam burst in 2005 where they got resources where they were needed and he got out of the way. In terms of the reality of actual leadership and governing, Palin doesn't hold a candle to Romney.

Jack, I'm just starting Season 6 of The West Wing. I'm not of their political stripes, but I loved the show nonetheless. Would've loved to see a Vinick presidency with Alan Alda, as was originally planned before John Spencer died. Otherwise, since the end of LOST, I've run through the "Yes, Minister / Yes, Prime Minister" series on Netflix streaming and I expect that I'll start something else soon after I run through TWW. Winter's coming, which means more indoor time. So, yes, let's populate this list. It really seems like 3/4 of prime-time is occupied by crime shows. You'd think they might try something different, but no, it's all crime shows, all the the time. The studios just fail to get that the reason cable is ascendant is that they've branched out and done different things with their dramas. I'll put in a good word for "Due South" even tho it's a cop show (a much different kind, tho), and in 4:3. I started watching "Pushing Up Daises" when it aired and enjoyed it, but at the time I had some night classes and I missed a lot and didn't keep up. That was an interesting concept and narration format for a show, and I enjoyed the "Amelie"-like feel to it. It got a lot of critical acclaim (but, all too often that's a kiss of death).

There were also a couple of seasons where a shoulder problem affected his kicking motion. He's been money since it was corrected. And IIRC he's still got a better % than Christie, which means he has a better percentage than a lot of other kickers. People, let it go and stop hating on one of the best position players on the team.

Agree 100 percent. The bigger problem, though, is that if people this generation actually had to do an honest day's work with their hands and figuring things out in their heads, it would probably kill them.

To be fair, though, that was in an era when the NFL wasn't nearly as popular as it's become in the last 10 years. And LA had divided loyalty. The main argument for why LA shouldn't want the Bills is that they should want a good team b/c to remain popular in LA, they have to be contenders right away. Fixing the Bills roster as it is will probably take 4-5 years. I wouldn't want to be saddled like that. Yes, the saving grace for the Bills remaining in Buffalo might be that they're a really ****ty team.

Can only hope that the clue stick whacks Russ Brandon in the head after it's reflecting off the Sabres management re: unis. Dark colors and "edge" were cool for about 5 minutes in the mid-to-late 90s. Not that the six-color abortion of the Bills full-time unis was ever a cool design. This would take an intern about two hours to turn around. Everything's already in place. It's a combination of stupidity and Old Man Syndrome that holds up bringing back some tradition to a franchise that's grown stale.

My grandfather was a farmer in WNY (that's kind of how I became a Bills fan) and passed it down to my uncle 20+ years ago. My grandfather died a few years ago at 96. I can appreciate your story. You say it's in bad shape, but can it be cleaned up and get it running? Watches back then were often pretty good quality. It would be nice to have/use something that was your grandfathers, no? Another practical answer is that if a woman doesn't want a child enough that she'll snuff it out in its genesis, if forced to by the law, she also wouldn't care very much about it after its brought to term. At the risk of being labeled something I'm not, I will point out the fact that 80 percent of abortions are performed for residents of inner cities. We have enough unloved children with parents who can't be bothered to give a crap, feeding at the public trough and becoming a burden to society, and having an extremely high likelihood of a life of drugs and crime. It's just not practical for society to pick up the tab nor are there nearly enough homes to adopt all of these children if they're required by law to be born. The more misanthropic I get in my older age, the more people who feel they're owed something just for being here and who hurt others b/c they're pissed about their lot in life, the less morally absolute I become. I don't advocate abortion from the rooftops, nor do I think people of whatever color skin pigment shouldn't breed, etc. It would be best if birth control were used and effective 100 percent of the time, but we don't live in that world, and so we arrive at a nitty-gritty. If a woman/couple is not going to care for or about her/their children, then it's probably better that they have the decision to not have them, and for this choice to be made at the earliest possible stage. Speaking as a borderline libertarian, this life is all about choices and dealing with the consequences. Running to the state and saying that Mary shouldn't be allowed to do X because I plum just don't agree with it is the worst kind of politics. The axiom holds that if you don't want to have an abortion, don't have one. Just as I don't want someone else having control over me, I don't deign to make other peoples' choices for themselves when they weigh their circumstances. On the legal front, almost 40 years on from Roe, the notion of stare juris has taken a firm hold. It would be specious for abortion law to change back and forth every time the political balance of the court changes. For something as big as a definition of murder, it needs to be a national coda rather than this definition varying from state to state. There's wiggle room for the law to change about parental notification, pre-procedure counseling, etc. but the core of the law has been set.

I don't like Tom Brady any less than anyone here, but using a single frame as an indictment is crap. They do double cheek kisses in France. Lord knows someone was filming this, and if these people had actually locked lips, they would have posted video. They don't, so they used a frame-grab to imply a kiss. TMZ is a bunch of parasites.

Never-ending business from one movie series. I caught part of Episode II during a family party and haven't seen Episode III yet. Amazingly, life has gone on.
