Brownies willing to trade #1
Buffalo Bills Detective replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perhaps I wasn't clear in my original request. I'm seeing posters saying that the Bills should make a bold move to go all the way up to #1 or #2 for a QB because that's what the Eagles and Rams did. My question, again, is can anyone convince me that the Bills roster, as it stands today, is as strong as the Eagles and Rams rosters were in early 2016, to justify them moving up from 21 to either #1 or #2 to take a QB? -

I am begging for someone to convince me that the current Bills roster is just as good, or possibly even better, as the Eagles and Rams rosters were when they moved up for Goff and Wentz, that would justify the Bills making a similar move to #1 or #3 for a QB. I'll be waiting. -

The Rams also had these guys on their roster at the time they made that trade: Robert Quinn, Aaron Donald, Alec Ogletree, Todd Gurley, Greg Robinson, Rodger Saffold. So, much like the Eagles, the Rams ALREADY HAD A STRONG ROSTER IN PLACE, meaning that they could afford to make a bold move to go up and take Goff. -

You'd be an ideal candidate for a White House job opening; possibly an ambassadorship. -

How does Lamar Jackson compare to, say, Ryan Mallett when he declared? -

As am I. Yet, there is a very, VERY vocal contingent of fans on here who want Jackson "because Deshaun Watson last year" -

John Murphy: Bills at their own 30 yard line. Lamar Jackson in the shotgun (because that's all he knows) with 3 receivers split wide. Here's the snap. Pressure coming right away up the middle! Lamar Jackson rolls out, he's going to take off! Jackson is at the 35, the 40, looking to get out of bounds and OH! Lamar Jackson got hit low by the safety and he is down and clutching at his knee. This is not looking good for the 21st overall pick right now. -
A pretty darn good TE - A TE who seems to be injured all the time and is NOWHERE NEAR the talent level of Ertz A beast pass rusher in Hughes - When he's not being double-teamed, which he was for the majority of last season Matt Milano is a stud - How do you know this? He could be the next Keith Ellison for all we know. You're right, we do have Kelvin Benjamin...a Kelvin Benjamin with a litany of knee issues.

The Eagles didn't have major holes throughout their roster when they traded up for Wentz. They had the following players on their roster when that trade was made: Jason Peters (LT), Lane Johnson (RT), Zach Ertz (TE), Fletcher Cox (DT), Brandon Graham (DE), Jordan Hicks (LB), Jordan Matthews (WR, when healthy, was productive), Nelson Agholor (WR). The point? They had pieces in place and could AFFORD to move up to the 2nd pick for Wentz The Rams were in a similar situation as the Eagles when they traded up for Goff. Their problem was that Jeff Fisher had no idea what he was doing and McVay and Wade Phillips actually DO KNOW what they're doing.

Say they trade up for Rosen by giving the Giants (or Colts) both 2018 1sts and a 2019 1st and 2nd. As the season progresses, it becomes clear that Dawkins is not a franchise LT, as Rosen just keeps taking hit after hit after hit. Beane and McDermott know they have to get a franchise LT to protect their franchise QB. But, guess what? YOU DON'T HAVE A 1ST ROUND PICK IN 2019 TO USE ON A FRANCHISE LT, NOR DO YOU HAVE A 2019 2ND ROUND PICK! But, you'll probably come back to this with "dude, they still have two 2nd round picks that they can use on an offensive tackle that could take over for Dawkins at LT." The problem with that though, is the top LT prospect in this class is Mike McGlinchey, who's projected to go in the 1st. Every other prospect is considered to be a better fit for guard or RT. Moreover, this team STILL has a crying need at WR and, if Preston Brown walks and Kyle's future is uncertain, and they can't sign a top LB or DT (ex. Star Lotulelei) in free agency, now you have two more major holes that need to be filled and could be filled with those two 2nd round picks. Not to worry though. I'm sure this fanbase will be more than content to give away the store for Rosen and use those two 2nd round picks on the 3rd best WR available and a guard/RT prospect and go into training camp with a 3rd round LBer and Jerel Worthy and Adolphus Washington as your starting DTs.

New England - doesn't matter what the atmosphere is like. as long as Brady is the QB, it's a loss. Minnesota - if it's Cousins, combined with that defense, it's a loss. Green Bay - Rodgers was shut down because we had a dominant defensive line that included a motivated Mario Williams and Marcel Dareus. That game was also won, because Rodgers missed a wide open Jordy Nelson on what would have been a guaranteed 70+ yard TD pass. Lions - it's a home game and whoever starts at left tackle will have to deal with Ziggy Ansah on the edge. Stafford will also be throwing all over the field to Golden Tate and Marvin Jones - both of them might have career games. Bears - Trubisky will be more experienced and they still an improving defense

Um, for one thing, we still play in the same division as the Patriots and their QB is this guy named Tom Brady. We're also playing the NFC North next season, that includes games AT Minneapolis and AT Green Bay (2 guaranteed losses) and home games against improved Lions and Bears teams. We're also playing the AFC South, with 3 potential losses against Houston, Tennessee and Jacksonville.
