It IS more complicated than that, you're right. But you're also right that allowing Brown and Beasley to work against CBs one step down on the depth chart will help them have more potential success. And, of course, you'd think defensive gameplans will additionally account for Diggs at times, with safeties rolled over the top of him and linebackers buzzing underneath him. Not sure the opposition had to do much of that player-specific scheming last season, which one hopes even further opens up the other options in the passing game, and even maybe more impactfully, spills over into how they defend our run game. We hope to see a cascading series of positive impacts, not the least of which should be Diggs's own game-changing production.

A Few Scattered Thoughts About The Draft.....
Richard Noggin replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're kinda all-in on this Fromm pick, eh? I'll bet McBeane are much more geeked about the physical DE and RB who fell to them in rounds 2 and 3, to be honest. They will see the field in week one (barring injuries or viral complications). The QB pick represented excellent value; I'll give you that. And it's good to invest in the most important position in all of sports. -

Sure, I don't think Beane would mind this at all either if a 1st round LB and a 1st round RB can be had in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, respectively! But it seems unlikely, innit? I've had similar hauls in mocks lately, and while fun to play around with, we have to recognize that these players will almost 100% be gone LONG before 54 and 86. Heck, they might both go in the top 20 based on production plus testing (Taylor seems less likely). -
Gil Brandt QB prospect comparison
Richard Noggin replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Certainly sounds like McDermott's defensive philosophy, even though you'd take a very different route with respect to personnel and alignment. Reads right to me. Thanks for taking the time. Might not be relevant, but (in keeping it Bills related) I'm oddly reminded of Jauron's defenses here, and how--while mostly mediocre--they actually gave vintage Manning and the Colts trouble on the road, playing that measured, conservative coverage-based scheme. The vaunted Cover-2/Tampa-2: keep everything in front of you. Rangy middle linebacker and dynamic safeties, zone-heavy CBs with eyes in the backfield, four down-linemen...I mean, not when the Bills ran it. But ideally. -

I'd respectfully LOVE to read a succinct summary of the blueprint to defensing spread offenses. If you have a few minutes. Truly. I'm a nerd for NFL game-planning: schemes, formations, personnel packages, play calling...all of it. I know how defenses attacked the Bills' spread offense last year, but I don't think that's (cover-0 pressure) accepted as "best practice" league-wide... -

For what it's worth (and trust me, it ain't worth jack poop), Chaisson fell to the Bills in a mock draft simulation (https://thedraftnetwork.com/mock-draft-machine) I ran late the other night. The sports withdrawal is real.
