Well I disagree with that.......totally disagree.

Mahommes had a great year...but Josh Allen, Edmunds, Tre White i a good haul and will probably look even better as the years go on

It was only one year....but a historic, league MVP year at the most important position in the game.  It's the offseason and not much going on and it's 4 AM and I am at work doing nothing....so I forgive me if I couldn't resist to troll a little here...

Come on.....in the history of the NFL, no one would ever trade a 23 year old league MVP at QB coming off a historic season, for any combo of players ever.

I understand the circumstances of how the Mahomes trade went down....given that Buffalo was NOT taking a QB in the 2017 draft under any circumstances...then trading out was a fine thing to do.  The mistake wasn't with McDermott...and Beane wasn't around....the owners (pegulas) awkward hiring of coach, then having lame duck GM...then later hiring GM after draft...all but assured that there would be no QB taken.  McDermott simply wasn't in a position to make a well informed committment to ANY of them at the time of the 2017 draft.

So again...GIVEN that the Bills were not in the QB market in 2017 due to circumstances created by the team owners...McD did VERY WELL.  But that's like saying the Edmonton Oilers did VERY WELL when they traded Wayne Gretzky.  You can't "win" that trade.  At best, you could say the Oilers didn't completely lose the trade...they did go on to win a cup in 1990 without Gretzky.....it's similar in this case.  Buffalo can not "win" the Mahomes trade...but it is entirely possible that they didn't lose it if Allen works out...the other bits...Tre White and Edmunds look good so far...but no executive ever, would trade Mahomes for Allen, Edmunds and White....you could even throw in the next 10 Bills round 1 picks with those guys and no one makes that trade.  It all hinges of course on Allen...if he becomes a top 10 NFL QB....along with the other guys in the trade...you will have done well and not lost the trade.

And this has absolutely nothing to do with the accuracy discussion.

But I don't disagree with you.

Decision making was Allen's single biggest problem last year.

    Not accuracy.

But as to the bolded, are you just assuming Allen had the ability to freely audible?

    He was a rookie.

He probalby didn't have much freedom to audible, but there is plenty of film where you can tell Allen has deliberately passed up an open, short, designed route, to throw downfield to a target that isn't open etc.  I think Baldinger did a film breakdown (it may have been someone else) showing Allen doing this on many occasions and more often than not, resulting in a negative play.

I don't care how you want to break it down...or what word you want to use...I like to use the term passing efficiency because it implies the entire team as the passing game....Allen (and the team) aren't going to win much if they aren't more efficient when passing....and that probably has more to do with Allen than the other parts.....can't wait to see how he does with the better roster and the whole offseason of coaching etc.

  3. ......Let's assume that Allen did in fact play with a bad O-line and bad WR last season (wich I am good with...that seems like a reasonable assumption)  WHY would Allen decide on purpose to do the LEAST optimal thing he can do under those circumstances?  A bad line would mean poor protection to allow time for downfield plays to develope and those would supposedly develop less often and more slowly with bad WR.  The optimal thing to do under these circumstance would be designed plays/audibles, RPO action etc that would happen quickly and a read made more quickly to a shorter, faster develping route to mitigate the bad Oline and bad WR.

Either the coaches called bad plays for Allen to try and throw deeper...OR they called good plays and Allen made bad choices.  One of those had to have happened.

Except that the Jetss are our division rivals. There is ABSOLUTELY reason to believe that they'd ask a higher price from a team they play twice a year than from a team in the AFC West.

Also, I expect you'll still be hanging around our boards and touting your Chiefs if/when they regress this year and barely secure a Wild Card spot?

I'll show up to eat crow if it comes to it.  Good point about Jets being div rival..but you'd think if they hate Lee enough let him go for peanuts...they might WISH he was on the Bills.

It’s possible the Bills 6th is higher but by the time you get to that round who cares -  but the Bills don’t need him (nor would they want him) and the jets weren’t trading him in the division.

It's possible I'll get struck by lightning during my date with scarlett johansen...but not likely.  Same applies to the question of which team will be picking lower/higher in the draft.

Never thought much of Lee, makes sense for Jets.  Not sure why KC wants him even for a 6th.

KC had A TON of roster turnover on D this offseason.  Our D has sucked and they blew it up.  In doing so, the one area that got kind of left out is the LB position.  KC has Anthony Hitchens, who they were talking about moving to the weakside (where he DOES NOT BELONG), Ragland in the middle....(The Ragland experiment hasn't worked.  He can't cover, and maybe he'd be a decent thumber in an all down hill role, but last season the KC d asked the LB to diagnose, then move.  ALL our LB struggled with this to be fair)  And then Dorrien O Daniel....a 4th round tweener type we drafted out of Clemson last year...who looked promising when he did play.  We signed a scrub/cast away from Dallas that also plays WLB named something Wilson....truly an afterthought JAG type...and we didn't draft one.  It is BY FAR the shallowest positon grouping of the KC defense.  a 6th Rounder for Lee, who may fit better AND allow Hitchens to be the MLB (where he belongs) is actually a big deal for KC...cost pennies to add this guy who is supposedly good in coverage and will play a postion he's more suited to play.

Not gonna lie, I wish the Bills had given a 5th rounder for Lee. I think he'd be great as a Will in McDermott's defense. Oh well.

If the Jets to a 6th from KC, they would have taken a 6th from the Bills...no offesne...but the Bills 6th is going to be a better pick than KC's sixth...wich will be a late 6th.

Also....I've said it a few other places here, but Ragland has not worked out.  The injury maybe or the crap scheme...both combined...he's looked slow AND lost...a great combo.  If he can't win the starting MLB job...he is of no use for us and will likely be released.  Good on Beane to get that 4 out of us.(KC)

  7. I've long been and Allen critic...but I am really looking forward to seeing what he does with an overhauled roster and another year of experience etc...He's a fun player to watch and the physical gifts definitely show up on the field.  I'm rooting for him.  Whatever your definition of accuracy is...however you want to quantify that....Allen and the Bills need to make strides in passing efficiency....I'm looking forward to it.  I'd like to eat a little tasty crow about Allen.

Our defense is way better than theirs.

QB A threw for 21 TD, 11 INTS and 4299 Yards 66.0 Comp % in 2018  His team went 5-11.

QB B threw for 21 TD, 11 INTS and 3777 Yards in 2018  66.1 Comp % His team went 5-11 also.

The combined QB's for the team with the 5th best D threw for 15 TD, 13 INTS, 3431 Yards and 61.4 Comp %.  They also went 5-11.

Teams threw for 20 or fewer TD had a combined record of 54-90.

QB A was Eli Manning, B was Matt Stafford and last was the combined efforts of the Jaguars QBs.

You could argue Buffalo has a better D than the Giants and the Lions...Jacksonville finished 5th in overall D....

If you add in teams that threw for 25 or fewer TD, that gets you 2 more losing teams, plus the Cowboys.

The lowest QUALIFYING (meaning, he had enough pass attempts to count) QB completion PCT to make the playoffs was Jared Goff, who completed 64.9 pct of his passes.

If you take non qualifiers, then you can throw in Jackson who only completed 58.2 pct of his throws in the 7 games he played, going 6-1 helping baltimore to qualify for the playoffs.

Allen needs to show substantial improvement.....I don't care how many times people want to define accuracy, etc...the bottom line is...in todays game, your QB and targets need to connect at minimum, 60% of the time...and realistically that number needs to higher to be considered a real threat.

Allen doesn't need to get to 60 this year....but he can't be at 53 again....that needs to be 57, 58 or better this year to show that he is growing and improving toward being the elite QB everyone his hoping for.  if he hits 60, no matter what the record is...I'd consider that wildly successful and I'd be pumped for 2020 in that case.

I struggle to imagine a scenario where Josh has those numbers and the Bills go 5-11. Our defense is too fundamentally sound and will give us at least a couple of games where we hardly have to score to win. Is it possible we finish 8-8 with Josh still struggling? Yep. Is it possible that Josh takes a genuine step forward and the Bills only win 5 games? Not for me. If Josh goes 59%; 23 passing TDs and 12 INTs then the Bills are winning 8 as an absolute minimum.

Big Ben threw for 30 something TD and 5000 yards and Pittsburg did not make the playoffs.

  10. I think one or maybe two people hit on it kind of....the record and playoffs are simply side shows this year....if you win games and make the playoffs...that would of course be great....but if you go 8-8 with a wild card berth and Josh Allen completed 56% of his passes while throwing for 14 TD and 12 INTS...you get crushed in the wild card game...that is a failed season.

5-11 but Allen gets that comp % up to 58-60 or better, 20 or more TD with 12 or fewer INTS..that would be progress and something to continue to build on....it would be better than the 1st scenario making the playoffs.

You need to know by the end of next season what you have in Allen.  The bills have gotten out of cap hell, they've turned the roster over and they have aquired some actual pieces and parts to go around Allen....and you had what I and many others would say was a very very good draft.  The 2019 Season is ALL ABOUT ALLEN.  Period.

I won't be looking at W/L record when I watch the Bills this year...I am watching Allen...I want to see the progress.

    My thoughts on this draft.

    1.  This a ONE QB draft.  Kyler Murray is it.  (it could be 2 IF Grier ends up in a good spot)  I love Murray and I like Grier.  The rest of the QB's in this class are garbage.  Grier would need to land in a place like Cincinnatti where he'd have a chance to supplant the starter in order for this to become a two QB class.  Unfortunately for Grier, I get the impression that a team like Indy or Carolina would take him and he'll ride the bench behind a well established starter.

    2.  This draft has a TON of DL blue chip prospects at the top.

    3.  Combine the idea here that it's a one QB draft, and that the blue chips will be available into the 20's and that means your going to have a draft with little or no trading at the top.  With no QB to go up for, none of the teams like Washington or Miami will be inclined to pay a price to move up for the 2nd QB in this draft who is probably every bit as good (or bad as the case may be) as the 8th QB.  Also, if you can get a Blue chip defender at 20, why trade up to 8, 9 etc?  The market conditions aren't going to be there for teams to want to pay to move up.

    4.  This all means the Bills and others up at the top will be staying put and making a selection.  And so, with the 9th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select TJ Hockensen, TE, Iowa.  My thought here is the Bills believe in their defense and their scheme.  By getting involved in an attempt to trade for Antonio Brown, the front office has shown they are all in on getting Josh Allen weaponry.  The Bills do not have a weapon at TE on their roster.  Hockensen would start from day 1 and make an immedeate impact.

    5.  The Giants won't take a QB in round 1.  The Broncos won't take a QB in round 1.  The Dolphins won't take a QB in round 1.  The Redskins won't take a QB in round 1 (because I think they will be trading their pick to Arizona for Rosen)  In fact, after Murray, the other QB's are going to slide down the board....again, based on my assesment that these QB's suck, coupled with the blue chippers into the 20's...no reason to draft a flawed QB high when you can get the same flawed guy in round 4.  I wouldn't be entirely surprised at all if only Murray goes in round 1.

    6.  Round 2 will see several WR that will prove to be good value selections.

Yes, I know you all don't care for the Chiefs fans perspective, but this is high quality analysis and I provide it for free. :D

Not bad,  turned out pretty good.  Worst call wa point 5.  Gettleman pulled an all time gaff at 6 and I had been right about the Redskins not going QB until he overruled his football people and took Haskins.

    Grier we to Carolina.

i had called Hockenson to the Bills but he was gone at 8 so it became super obvious that Oliver was the pick.

A ton of WR went in round two as I predicted. Not a lot of trades high.

Ford had 13 more QB pressures than Clark with the same amount of sacks. His pass rushing and his overall grade were higher as well.

Dee Ford Played 1022 Snaps in 2018.  Clark played 728 Defensive snaps in 2018.  Both had 13 Sacks.  One of them needed over 300 more snaps to get there....Ford also is a liablility against the run.  Ford has been mostly unhealthy during his time in the NFL.  Clark has played in 62/64 games.

    seems pretty obvious to me.

I love draft time.....EVERYONE IS GOOD until you draft them....you say this as if Byron Murphy would be both good and available at 29.  go look at the last 10 drafts and tell me what a surefire hit Murphy is at 29....there are a TON of great players like Corderelle Paterson, and Gabe Carrimi or maybe that household name Kyle Wilson, or Dominque Easley.  ....we could miss out on a talent like ....Phillip Dorsett!  ....at this point...I'll gladly give up the 29th pick and a 2020 2nd for a proven player.

do you post at other AFCE message boards or NFL boards besides Chiefs? Or are you strictly at this Bills message board for a reason

I occaisionally post at Jetsnation.com but not very often at all.  I very frequently post on Orangemane.com  ...a Broncos fansite...  I am heavily involved over there...play in a couple of their fantasy leauges...and I troll them HARD.

I came here after the Mahomes trade to kind of see how things would go on this side of the trade....and I've ended up liking it here...good group....lots of high quality posters here.  I've kind of adopted the Bills as something of a second team....really enjoy watching you guys....and even though my mind says no...I am rooting for Josh Allen...I like him.  He's fun to watch...he IS athletic and compelling.

Also....before it comes up for the millionth time.  I am not Jeffismagic.

  16. Again...adding to keep all my draft prognostications in one spot.

    Todays thought.

the Raiders aren't going to do anything special at 4.  Why announce it?  What the Raiders really want is to draw any team interested in Haskins, into a deal up to 2 or 3 ahead of them...Haskins goes off the board, and that gives the Raiders one more of the elite defenders to choose from....quite possibly They are looking at Quinnen Williams...and to get the Niners off of him....they need someone to come up for Haskins.  It won't work.  No one is coming up.  Niners take williams.  Jets go with Oliver.  The Raiders take Josh Allen...the pass rusher Josh Allen.

....and my Mock already gets one demerit for KC trading out of round 1 in the Frank Clark deal.

I'm also not feeling good about having Montez Sweat at 5......that may end up looking really bad.

  17. 2 hours ago, Rochesterfan said:

But you also would get to keep Ford.

I understand changing scheme, but the Chiefs dumped two older pass rushers this off season that got less money combined than Clark and then gave up a first and a second in a draft this year that is the sweet spot for some top flight DBs - that they actually need to improve the defense.

In the end - Clark is the better player and fits their new scheme, but the defense is not as good and you gave up picks that could easily be used to make the defense better.

KC created multiple holes on the defense and then traded away multiple picks to fill holes they created and on top of that they way overpaid for a guy that is marginally better than the players they let go.

I think their main competition- NE, Indy, Rams, and NO are less worried about KC with Clark because they can use a quick short/intermediate passing game to combat outside pass rush and KC defensive backfield is putrid.  KC is going to pt up points - they need DBs that can actually cover, LBs that will not be exploited, and safeties that are going to be able to handle other teams passing games because they will be in shoot outs.

I would have less issues with the trade if the Chiefs were a pass rusher away from being SuperBowl Champs, but they were not.  The pass rush was not the issue - the LBs and DBs were the issue and the team just got rid of their top 2 rushers to replace them with a better overall player, but not one that increases the pass rush output and eliminates a chance at elite DB talent in this draft.

Probably the most overlooked aspect of this is health.  You ponited out we let Houston and Ford go....I think you got the money part wrong.  Houston would have cost 21 Million this year, and Ford on a Franchise tag would have been 15.  That's 36 Million.  Anyhow...Ford, Houston (and Eric Berry) have been WAY too unavailable the last few years.  Nothing is guarnateed....Clark could get hurt...but given that Ford and Houston have often been Hurt and Clark hasn't been...is a big factor in all this.

I can't stress this enough either...to move up from 29 to say 21 for example, and select Clelin Ferrel..would COST MORE in draft compensation than the trade for proven Clark just did.  KC is in a win now mode.

I see some have suggested that we might be missing out on a good safety or corner at 29......well...of course we COULD be...but frankly, the probability of hitting that isn't very high..especially that far down...At this time in the roster development of Kc....this was the right move.

One more VERY IMPORTANT distinction being missed here...

KC had BY FAR the most pass attempts against.  KC tied pittsburg for most sacks in the NFL with 52 each.  The thing no one mentions is that Pittsburg got to 52 in FAR FAR fewer opertunities than KC did....in fact, when you look at Sacks per pass attempt, KC was VERY AVERAGE.  If team A gets to rush the passer 1000 times, and team B only got to rush the passer 500 times...and both end up with 50 sacks..Team B was the better pass rushing team.  Surface stats for Ford and KC's pass rush in general would lead you to believe that the pass rush was elite....it was good..but not elite.  KC's run defense was putrid.  Dee Ford is a putrid run defender....KC is trying to improve the run defense while maintaining a threatening pass rush...this move was made with that in mind.

  18. Just now, Bills2ref said:

Even if Clark is double the edge rusher Dee Ford is, I take Ford, 1st and a 2nd everyday over Clark.

I cant say if this is the right deal, but I do understand what they are doing here.  It’s importantvto note that Clark has been healthy and reliable over the course of his time in the NFL.  Ford has not been.  Had the one really good year in a contract year.

Also, it’s always worth asking, take last years pick 29 and a random late 20s 2nd and find a combo that equals Frank Clark.  It’s hard to do.

We will soon find out what ZeroVolts will have to say.

    1.  Sad to say, 85% of Chiefs fans dont understand the cap and also way over value draft choices.

Ok.  Some of you here have correctly identified that KC is taking advantage of Mahomes rookie deal.  This is exactly what you do when you have a franchise QB playing for pennies.

The compensation is this years 1st and one of our 2020 2nds.

that equates to about pick 24 in terms of trade chart value.

highly unlikely KC could move up to 24 and get a Frank Clark caliber player.

The compensation is high, but again, what good is cap space due to the rookie QBs deal unless you use it?

last thought, Dee Ford had exactly one good season.  He’s often hurt and he is awful.....dreadfully awful against the run.  KC has changed schemes and this is a better fit. Besides being a very good pass rusher, Clark is a very good run defender and edge setter.  Dee Ford simply isn’t that guy.  Ford is really good at what he does, and has value but Clark is better.

Seattle, conversely with Wilson now being highly paid, has to build with cheap talent in the draft.  When Mahomes gets paid, KC will be in same boat.

I find it difficult to target any one person for missing Mahommes.   It was a time of transition.  Easy for things to get missed.  I was lukewarm on Mahommes and Watson and didn’t think much of it at the time when we didn’t draft them.

If anything, blame ownership for not getting the new GM in place prior to the draft.  But maybe that was out their control.

i think the lesson here is don’t trade down a top 10 pick.  Also, I think the mantra of always picking BPA in the top 10 - 15 is ridiculous.  You understand your biggest weakness and address it.   Keep your pick and get the guy who can make a great impact where you need it.  Unfortunately, the Bills have a lot of places to get much better this year.

I don't think that is the lesson.  Under the circumstances....when you have a lame duck GM....and a new HC only on the job a short time prior to the draft...you probably don't have the best organized draft board....BUT forget that for a moment...they traded out of 10 because the powers that be drafting weren't sold on what was there at 10 anymore than they were sold on what was at 27.  That is a GREAT time to trade out....and given that you got Tre White....who was as good as Lattimore means you had made the right choice as far as knowing you could get equal talent later AND add some draft capital.

More is actually made of this than need be...the lesson that needed to be learned was by Mr. Pegula....and that was don't stumble and staggar your way through a firing/hiring cycle like he did.  I think he probably learned that lesson.  Going and getting Josh Allen also showed the team, once the whole staff was together and on the same page...was all about addressing the QB situation because the 2018 draft and events/trades leading to it...were all about fixing your QB spot.

If Mahomes was just an average guy....or even just a good QB in the top 10...NO ONE would ever bring this up...and if they did, it would be to heap praise on McD (and maybe Whaley) for astutely getting extra picks AND identifiying a great DB at pick 27.

If you have identified a talent that you can't get later, when you have a top 10 pick...you keep the pick and select that player....if you have identified players outside the top 10, top 20...and you can get trade out and get them while adding draft capital....you do that.

  21. Here is my first AND LAST Mock Draft.  I don't like these much...too many variables involved to make anything close to a reasonable predictions....and since the nature of these is that most of it looks wrong and silly 10 picks in or less....these make me look bad!  But....anyone who does these typically look bad also....so here is my best attempt at only looking marginally stupid.  Again...putting this here in this one thread, so easily referred to later.

    Mock Draft

    1.       Arizona Cardinals             Kyler Murray      QB

Arizona gets the one QB in this draft class that projects out to a possible generational talent

    2.       San Francisco 49ers         Quinnen Williams             DL

The 49ers go best player available here and get Williams to bolster the interior D line.

    3.       New York Jets                   Ed Oliver              DL

The first big surprise of the draft, the Jets don’t take an edge rusher and instead opt for Oliver, a favorite of new D coordinator Gregg Williams

    4.       Oakland Raiders               Josh Allen            Edge

The Raiders were dead last in sacks with 13.  There is nowhere to go but up and this pick should help

    5.       Tampa Bay Buccaneers  Montez Sweat  Edge

The Buccs will strongly consider Devin White here, but ultimately can not pass up Sweat, whose heart condition makes him a gamble, but who is otherwise a bonifide grade A prospect.

    6.       New York Giatns              Rashan Gary       Edge

No!  They aren’t taking a QB here!  This QB class is garbage after Murray, and Dave Gettleman wants to prove all his critics wrong about his team building philosophy.  Gettleman gets his defense a pass rusher here that is in line with his style

    7.       Jacksonville Jaguars        Jawaan Taylor    OT

The Jags, on top of being a fairly conservative team on draft day, with an old school team president and philosophy, also have a tendancy to draft local products.  Taylor fits that, plus he fills a huge need.

    8.       Detroit Lions                      Nick Bosa             Edge

The Lions are ecstatic that a prospect as well regarded as Bosa falls all the way to 8 for them!  In typical Lions fashion, Bosa goes on to be a bust.

    9.       Buffalo Bills                         T.J. Hockenson  TE

The first skill position player off the board isn’t a WR or RB…but a TE.  The success or failure of the Bills rides on QB Josh Allen…and the Bills don’t have anything close to resembling a threat at TE.  Hockenson gives them a day 1 starter and major target for Allen

    10.   Denver Broncos                                Devin White       LB

The Broncos ARE NOT TAKING A QB! (at least not high in this draft)  They hired an old D minded coach, and traded for the QB the coach asked for.  Elway and Fangio have both made clear that Flacco IS the plan, not a bridge.  Broncos get the ILB that Fangio craves to make his D run at peak levels.

    11.   Cincinnatti Bengals          Dwayne Haskins               QB

The third surprise of the draft after Oliver goes early and Bosa falls…is Haskins going here to the Bengals.  New Offensive minded HC.  Dalton wasn’t extended and can be cut anytime with no dead money.  The Bengals also need a spark for the fans and what better way to do that than draft a Buckeye QB?

    12.   Green Bay Packers          Jonah Williams  OT

The Packers will be looking to trade out of this spot, but won’t find any takers.  (that’s right…Drew Lock is STILL on the board and no one is coming up here for him)  The Packers generally like to take lineman early as opposed to skill position players and Williams is the pick here.

    13.   Miami Dolphins                 Brian Burns         Edge

Many will be surprised that the seemingly QB needy Dolphins don’t go QB here….DREW LOCK is on the board!!! They are content to blow up their roster this year and eat cap space while rebuilding.  They aren’t drafting a marginal QB prospect to sit when they need players.  They go with local product Burns and will push the QB decision down the road when better prospects come along.

    14.   Atlanta Falcons Christian Wilkins               IDL

The Falcons will be staring at the phone hoping it will ring with someone on the other end wanting to move up ahead of the Redskins for a QB.  No one does.  The Falcons take Wilkins as BPA on their board.

    15.   Washington Redskins     Marquise Brown              WR

Wait…what?  NO QB HERE!!!!  That’s right…the Redskins front office and coaching staff are on the hot seat to win now.  They aren’t going to be afforded the luxury of taking a marginal QB prospect who will sit.  They instead get an electric playmaker to help right away.

    16.   Carolina Panthers            Cody Ford           OT

The Panthers could do any number of things here, and with no trade partner, they opt to beef up the O-line with a mild surprise here with Ford.

    17.   New York Giants              Andre Dillard      OT

WHAT!!!!! STILL NOT A QB?!!  Gettleman isn’t swallowing his pride and he has a big grin on his face as he gets his “top OT on my board” Dillard.  Gettleman is going to out-Line everyone in the NFL!

    18.   Minnesota Vikings           Greedy Williams               CB

The Vikings don’t really need a CB, but in todays NFL, can you ever really have enough of them?  No one wants to move up here and so the Vikings go BPA on their board and take Williams

    19.   Tennessee Titans             Noah Fant           TE

The Titans aren’t quite ready to give up on Marcus Mariotta just yet, and certainly aren’t giving up on him picking 19th with this QB class.  The Titans have a need for a dynamic receiving TE and get their man here in Fant.

    20.   Pittsburg Steelers            Devin Bush         LB

I could see the Steelers going with a CB here, but they stick with their board and go Bush who fills a need as well.

    21.   Seattle Seahawks            Byron Murphy   CB

The Seahawks are pleased when BPA on their board and local product Murphy falls in their lap here.

    22.   Baltimore Ravens             DK Metcalf          WR

The Ravens WR group may well be the weakest in the NFL, and giving scattershot QB Jackson a BIG TALL FAST target to sling the ball toward is not a bad way to go.  Gives the Ravens and Jackson a legit threat in the red zone or to go deep.

    23.   Houston Texans                               Johnathan Abram            S

The Texans have a number of holes to consider filling here.  They also could use help at offensive line but the top safety on their board and in this class is available to them here and having lost out on the Honey Badger, fill that hole with Abram.

    24.   Oakland Raiders               DeAndre Baker CB

The Raiders can go BPA at just about any point and find someone they have a spot for and who can start.  Baker fits that here.  Some have him as the 1st or 2nd best CB in this class.

    25.   Philadelphia Eagles          Nasir Adderley  S

Philly gets their man out of their own backyard to fill a position of need by taking fast rising Adderley.

    26.   Indianapolis Colts             Jerry Tillery         IDL

The Colts get another Notre Dame product for the line at a position of need for a team that needs more push in the pass rush.

    27.   Oakland Raiders               A.J. Brown          WR

The Raiders end up with TWO A.Browns at WR as they take the Mississippi product here.  Again, the Raiders are needy everywhere and go BPA.

    28.   Los Angeles Chargers     Dexter Lawrence             IDL

The Chargers have one of the deeper rosters in the league and in this deep draft, land a big talent here in Lawrence.

    29.   Kansas City         Garrett Bradbury             C

KC will explore trading out of the first round hoping for one of the QB needy teams who passed earlier, to come up for Drew Lock.  No dice.  KC stays put and selects Bradbury who will start at C from day 1.

    30.   Green Bay           Chauncy Gardner-Johnson          S

Like KC, The Packers will listen in vain for a trade partner wanting Drew Lock or some other QB.  The call won’t come.  They take a safety to fill a hole.

    31.   Los Angeles Rams            Clelin Ferrell       Edge

The Rams roster is in flux due to the cap catching up to them.  They need to have reinforcements ready to go.

    32.   New England Patriots     Rock Ya-Sin

The Patriots, hoping that the Broncos, Dolphins or Giants actually want one of these garbage QB try and use the force to make the phone ring.  Belichick can’t quite conjure up the power needed to make it happen.  The Patriots stay put and draft Rock Ya-Sin…the Pats are always looking for good DB and they get one here.

Know what pains me the most about that trade, that we traded with the wrong team. Who knows if the Houston deal was on the table, but would have been nice to get lucky and have taken the Houston deal. 4th overall+ a 1st (around 25 I think Houston had) in the current draft sure sounds a lot better than 27th overall+22nd overall in the next draft.

From what I have read, the Texans, who were also all over Mahomes, didn't think Mahomes would go early.  Once Trubiksy AND Mahomes had come off the board, it was reported that Texans owner Bob McNair told GM Rick Smith to do whatever it took to get Watson.  Houston, as many will recall, had been a playoff team with a very good roster that had always been missing the QB since the franchise began.  Even though the draft room wasn't especially excited about it...they were forced into it by the owner......and given that they had missed the first 2, and even not really liking Watson...Watson has in fact been the franchise QB Houston was lacking.  Not a bad consolation prize.

Here is the Houston War Room as they were drafting Watson....Rick Smith either just farted.....or he's the only happy guy in the room about getting Watson.
