Matt Araiza accused of rape, served with a lawsuit.
Zerovoltz replied to bill8164's topic in Off the Wall
I haven't read through all this....have been reading about this though. I do understand the guy is a talented punter....he's a PUNTER...on a team that I believe...punted the least in the NFL (right?) .....we're talking abou the punter. you can get another punter. I am sure it's been suggested in this way...so sorry to repeat that if it has. but..yeah...he's the punter. Go get anohter one. -
EDIT: RIP Len Dawson (was HOF’er Len Dawson in Hospice)
Zerovoltz replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall
That photo is actually from halftime of SB IV. (or 1...not sure, but it's one of them) I grew up watching him on inside the NFL....I could NOT miss that show. Notable, that in Todays NFL...it would be hard to produce another Len Dawson...great athlete, but got stuck behind at the back end of the depth chart in Pittsburg and Clevleland before getting a shot in KC. Todays CAP and rookie scale make it so much less likely. Makes me wonder a bit how many guys might be out there...maybe stuck on a bench or discarded too early because the scenario is just not the same now. Anyhow. RIP to Kansas City's first football hero. He'll be missed. -
Ugh. Lol. Place them at 15, just above the Jets. I don’t think Pickett is going to play this year and if he does he’ll struggle behind that awful line.

I went through every team game by game.....it helps sort out some stuff you might not think about when you just think of teams in general as Tier 1, 2, 3 etc. 1. (I am BIASED, but this could easily, and in fact SHOULD be the Bills this year....but) Chiefs. The schedule is the hardest in football. As I intamately know this team, I would say that the defense is going to be better. It's faster and deeper, and they will BENEFIT by not having Anthony Hitchens on the field. Honey Badger...love him...but he was making a ton of business decisions last season. Andy Ried was an offensive guru before Kelce and Hill and he'll be one until he dies. He's gotten production his entire coaching career out of whoever he's had, and this group of WR, while missing Hill, who is great....is deeper. The O line is really good. This is the most balanced team KC has had in the Mahomes era. 2. Baltimore. They remained very competive despite all the inuries. Lamar isn't a great passer, but he's not as bad as some claim. If they stay healthy, they should be a tough team to beat again. 3. Buffalo (OR PUT KC HERE...whatever) I think the Bills will also have some trouble with a bit harder of a schedule this season. I think the division isn't as tough as the AFC west, but Miami is better, New England isn't trash....just the Jets as pushovers. The Bills are all in for this year and there is every reason to think they should be the 1 seed and AFC champion. 4. Titans. *****THIS IS PLAYOFF SEEDING ONLY***** I don't think the Titans are the 4th best team in the AFC...they will just win their garbage division. Henry is getting old. Tannehill is getting older and his target group isn't better than last years. Their O line isn't great. They will rely on a decent defense, good coaching and an easy shedule to get into the playoffs with a very underwhelming record. 5. Chargers. (or this could be KC too) I think the Chargers and the Chiefs are the 2 real contenders in the AFC west...whoever doesn't win the division, ends up with the 5 seed. I would say that even last year, the Chargers have a ton of talent and BAD coaching. Staley is supposed to be a defensive guru...they were horrible on D. And Joe Lombardi clearly isn't the kind of O Coordinater who has any business running his own show on offense. He clearly just did what Sean Payton told him to do in new orleans...calling a TON of short passing plays designed for Drew Brees when he has a stallion at QB. They should be big time contenders, but their coaches aren't equal to it. 6. Cincinatti. Super Bowl hangover, plus some regression to the mean on some stuff....too much talent not to make it, but last year was something of a mix of fluke and luck, AND talent all coming together at the right time. 7. Cleveland. ...So here is the thing. as I said, I went over everyone game by game....and the roster is talented enough to put some W's on the board until Watson is around...whenever that is. I think there is enough favorable schedule wise that they can grind out enough W's to eek into the final playoff spot. 8. Miami. The picture of average, with good parts and pieces all over the field, but some tough games, and a QB that isn't quite big time enough to pull a few out on his own, leaves Miami on the cusp. 9. New England. Good coaching, and I think Mac Jones is pretty good...but they just don't have enough around him and the OC crap show they got going on isn't good. 10. Denver. You might think this is low. Denver isn't a horrible team..and Russ is a big upgrade at QB. But Chargers and Chiefs in division, along with coaches all accross the board who are all new to their roles....plus some of Denvers skill positoin players being kind of overrated....I don't see them making it in....Vegas only has them at over/under 9.5 I'm not sure 10 is enough to get in, and I am not sure Denver gets to 10 this year. 11. Indy. Count me among hte few who aren't buying Matt Ryan...and who think the Colts offense is a bit overrated even without him. They are in a winnable division, which will keep them in contention all year, but they are a pretender. 12. Raiders. I am really low on these guys. Their line sucks. They don't have a good RB. They have good pass rushing ends...but if they don't muck things up, the secondary and LB's aren't good either. They had a TON of items that should regress to the mean...and this is probably a 6 win or so team at most. 13. Jacksonville. I think they also, like the Colts, COULD maybe stay in contention for a division title by being in a bad division for a while....but they are at least another year and more roster turnover away from making any noise. 14. Houston. ....clearly in the early stages of a complete rebuild. IT's all about seeing of Mills is a worthwhile QB or not. That's all. 15. Jets. Even after what some say was a great draft, this roster isn't good or deep at any spot and Wilson is hurt....and he's NOT IT anyhow. I saw enough last year to believe he's just not an NFL QB. The Jets are destined to bringing in yet another coach and GM next year becasue the QB the current guys bet on, sucks.

Is Mahomes-Allen the new Brady-Manning? (The Ringer podcast episode)
Zerovoltz replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
I've said before whenever this topic comes up....Mahomes and Allen are ELITE tier QB's. That is to say, THEY can elevate a roster, carry a bad defense, make up for injuiries, a bad line etc, and still win at a high level. They are the type of QB that CARRY teams to super bowls. If you have this type of QB, then you have it...and if you don't you don't. Trying to compare who throws it farther, and so on and on....is fun for fans, but ultimately it doesn't matter. What is fun is that since KC and Buffalo have Mahomes and Allen...it's likely, as it's already happend now a couple times...that these two are going to collide in playoff games. Sure these things matter, but I think we can already see that we are talking about 2 great QB's without having account for super bowls or playoff wins. ....it won't surprise me at all if KC and the Bills, once again, run into each other in this upcoming post season again. I'm going to enjoy the show, and hope my team comes out on top, but regardless, I already know the 2 QB's are elite and worthy of victory. -
I went with Dallas ONLY because I am not sold on Hurts...and I do kind of like Hurts. Philly has good O and D lines, and they are going to pound the run, run playaction and boots and be a pretty tough out if you are a team that can't get out to a lead. They are outclassed by teams with high powered offenses, but they aren't bad. Dallas is going to benefit greatly from the easy schedule once again. Daniel Jones sucks. Carson Wentz sucks. That's all you need to know about the other 2 teams. It's kind of sad because I think the WFT has some really nice parts, but Wentz is terrible.

7 Bills players that are trending up and down (per Joe B)
Zerovoltz replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think there could be something to this. I think an argument could be made that having prime, versatile safties, and throwing numbers at CB, who you ask to play zone and show up in the run support game, might be a good way to do things. ......KC traded up to 21 to get in front of the Bills for McDuffie....(who by all accounts is having a great camp is going to start) ......I'll see myself quickly out.... -
All the questionable stuff happend when he was with the Giants. KC signed him after he was cleared. Initially Baker showed at least a little something for a KC team that was shallow in CB depth, but he broke his femer. He did recover from that and started here and there, but has never lived up to his draft status. KC is has younger players that basically have passed him up on the depth chart. He was a good citizen during his time in KC and is going to get another chance somewhere due to age and pedigree. Just to clarify that....he was let go for lying to the Chiefs about the incident, not the incident itself. Joking aside, KC will work with guys and give second and third chances.....you just can't lie to the owners face about it.

I think KC takes it again...but clearly I am biased. I would offer up some thoughts on the other teams - The Chargers would be the team I'd select as the one most likely to rise up and challenge KC. They have a nearly complete roster, and between them, the Raiders and Broncos, have the superior QB. What the Chargers lack - Luck....always suffer too many injuries...and coaching. Staley underachieved...he was/is a d minded coach and that D couldn't stop anyone last year at all. Also, the O-Coordinator, Joe Lombardi....isn't a good coach. He calls short passes as if he was still coaching Drew Brees, when he's got a stallion at QB....Joe isn't creative or original...he did what Sean Payton told him to do and isn't the kind of coach you want to entrust to run your offense on his own. The coaching staff isn't up to getting the most out of the roster. The Raiders - had alot of stuff go their way that is likely to regress to the mean this year. And their O line is horrible. They have alot of holes in the secondary...I don't see them going far relying on two good DEs and hoping for Davante Adams to put that O over the top. The Broncos....have some decent parts and pieces here and there, but it was a roster with no pro bowlers (yes, that's a popularity contest, but still) ...Wilson is moving the needle, as he should, but he's 33, coming off career lows in rushing yards (by more than half) and not exactly the guy he was a few years ago. Still really good and will help them....but that O line isn't that good, and the targets a bit overhyped. Pretty good secondary, but questions in the front 7 all over. Probably not a playoff team in this division. And....take it FWIW....my assessment of KC. They are going to spread the ball out....but more importantly, they want to be able to run effecitvely. Reid is smart enough to know that if he wants teams to get out of cover 2 shell, then they MUST be able to run and force teams out of it. They failed at this last year. The offesne will be fine even though they won't have Hill, who is a unique talent, and as you all know, can make game changing type plays. He'll be missed. Kelce is a year older, but still looking like he's got more to give. Where I think KC is better....is at LB. Dear God....Anthony Hitchens sucked. When he was out, and Bolton got to play more...the difference is night and day....just having Hitchens off the team will be huge as Bolton is way way way better. KC is still lacking star power at the ends and the pass rush is a question mark. KC also added by subtraction with Dirty Dan Sorenson being allowed to move on. KC drafted and added and is throwing numbers at the secondary back there but if nothing else, they won't be completely outmatched speed wise like Sorenson was. Also...I loved Honey Badger, but it was pretty clear that he was making business decisions....OFTEN....last season. I wish him well. He was a valuable piece to our title winner....but KC never made an offer to retain him...for good reasons. There is plenty here that simply can not and won't be known until the season gets going...but KC still have Ried and Mahomes,....and now know they have LT, LG, C and RG solidly manned, still have Kelce and Chris Jones with some other ascending players. I think it's a tough tough division...again with the Chargers being the main threat...and I could see them taking it, and wouldn't blame anyone for thinking they could. I'll take KC until someone can prove they can knock them off the AFC mountain though.

No, it’s not any of that, it’s that they spent 3 first round picks to trade up for Lance and they have to put him out there.
-
Tampa. They probably don’t have Brady’s successor on the roster. I don’t think they are sold on Trask. Jimmy could start or bridge to their next guy

sorry for the late response. Regarding the draft pick compensation....yes, I took all the picks into consideration. when you run all those through calculators, the trade came out to more or less Brown for a 2nd. Going forward I do NOT think it's in Browns best interest to sit. He's only made about 3.5 million so far in his NFL career. He can collect a 16.5 Mil to play on the tag this year. That's a lot of money. Also, Brown isn't the picture of prime physical athlete...he has to work at staying in good enough shape to play football. He's the kind of guy who needs camp to get into playing shape. Sitting out would be a major test of his willpower to keep up with training etc. This is a guy who completely blew off the combine his draft year....nothing in his past suggests he has the self discipline to stay on task. I would consider moving Thuney to LT. But, that is probably a fools errand....if Thuney was a good LT...he'd be playing LT....way more money for dudes that are good at that. It might be that they'd roll with some dudes we've not heard of and see how that goes (probalby not good) I'd say Brown sits out through most or all of camp and shows up for week 1....to collect his fat tag money. I would say that IF Brown has a really good year, KC would gladly pay him. Last year he was medicore and they weren't going to pay him top money to be mediocre again. KC has a ton of draft capital next year and would be prepared to address this in the draft after this season. I think it's probably mutually beneficial to both if he shows up and plays on the tag.
-
Some thoughts here. 1. When KC traded for Brown - they were coming off a SB loss in which they had no Eric Fisher, and No Mtich Schwartz at the tackle spots...both would be unavailable the following season. They had already been starting backups at the other 2 guard spots most of the year and the Center was among the worst in the NFL. That is what they headed into the 2021 offseason looking at. 2. They had already signed Joe Thuney when they traded for Brown, but he was IT. The draft hadn't happend yet. 3. When trading for Brown, it wasn't just KC throwing picks at Baltimore. The Chiefs sent 28 overall to Baltimore, and some others but KC got Brown and a 2nd, and a think a 5th or something in return. When you washed it all out in various draft pick value calculators...it was basically Brown for a 2nd is how the value ended up. 4. Kc knew brown would want a new contract but also knew, and it has come to fruition that they could tag him....this year and next if need be. That's 1 year (last year) of cheap rookie deal and 2 additonal years of club control at NOT top of market pricing. 5. The situation today has changed. KC was able to draft Creed Humpphrey, and Trey Smith...to go alogn with Thuney. Thuney played some at LT for injury in 2021 and looked better than brown doing so. 6. KC will be fine paying the tag....they'd have preferred a contract get done for cap flex purposes, but the tag number is reasonable for a man of Browns abilities. If he walks, KC takes a 3rd as a compensatory pick. KC was smart not to pay him at top of market. It would be a bad look. If you aren't paying a proven top 5 WR then what does that say to the other players if you give Brown top 5 or top overall money for a guy who wasn't around for the titles, and hasn't demonstrated top 5 ability? Good on Veach to not cave on this. They are setting this thing up right to be in position to compete year after year.

Did Jim Kelly / Bruce Smith save the Bills?
Zerovoltz replied to Zerovoltz's topic in The Stadium Wall
If I was talking about KC from 74 to 89, I would use the word moribund. I didn't mean it as disrespect, but as a description of the on field fortunes of your team in the years after OJ and before Kelly etc. Should I have instead said, was the franchise ever in danger of moving during it's golden age of 79-87? I'm just wondering about that era and how things were there. -
Did Jim Kelly / Bruce Smith save the Bills?
Zerovoltz replied to Zerovoltz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Absolutely didn't ask this to be disrespectful or crap on anyone. I was like 12 years old or so in 1988. I have no idea what things were like in Buffalo and was jus wondering. -
I am not from Buffalo and I only started really paying attention to football around 88-89 or so, just as the Bills were becoming a great team. I have seen bits here and there about how moribund the franchise was, especially after OJ was finished. As an outsider and someone not from there, was there ever a time when it was in doubt that the Bills would always be in Buffalo? As a St. Louis Blues fan, it's not stretch to say that Brett Hull saved them from leaving. Some have said Peyton Manning saved the Colts being in Indy (by being good and thus spurring the building of Lucas Oil stadium) I am sure there are other examples. Was this the case with the Kelly/Smith era of Bills teams? Thanks.

As a Chiefs fan....who follows the team closely....I hate these things. 1. Myself and half the poster on this board can write better clickbait. I take comfort knowing if I ever lose my job, I should be able to find steady work wrting CRAP for sports blogs. 2. Let's just assume for a moment there was even the remotest of chances someone in high places somewhere thought this was possible. From KC's standpoint.....they aren't taking a 7 million dollar cap hit at RB at this point. They have something like 8 mil in cap space as of now and that's about what you want to cover injuries etc that are bound to happen and you need to sign some street FA at some point. Also, KC signed Ronald Jones, resigned Jerrick McKinnon, drafted Isiah Pacheco and still have CEH (who isn't very good) Trading for Barclay and his 7 mil cap figure....if he has a decent to great year in KC....they aint resigning him and paying an RB big money when they have Mahomes in a pass heavy offense. They would also be risking 7 mil on a guy who is more than likely to get hurt. The odds of Barkley being healthy AND so great that he's worth 7 mil..and a major reason KC would win a title...are not good. This is another thoughtless MADDEN trade scenario.

Capitol One The Match (Allen Tattoo)
Zerovoltz replied to TheNorwoodStrangler's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's cool to see Allen and Mahomes in this type of event. It cements who the marquee QB's are in the AFC. I am looking forward to more Chiefs - Bills for years to come and if KC can't win it, I want it to be the Bills. -
95yo Former Vikes Coach- Rule Change Ideas
Zerovoltz replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall
I can do without the 1 yard rule...if you've gone through 59 minutes of football and you have the ball and can kneel..then you've earned it. Also....if it's 35-3...are we really making the kneeling team gain a yard. I like the kickoff and punt ideas. ....and I know this thread isn't about OT rules, but I'll take this oppertunity to tout that OT should be sudden death, no coin toss. home team gets the ball first. Give homefield...especially in the playoffs, some more power. I don't need to see both teams have the ball in OT...I saw both teams with it for 60 minutes and the game is tied. Homefiled kicks in and if the home team still can't win with needing a FG in Sudden death then the road team truly was/is better. -
They do not have a great O-line. It's mid pack at best and probably more accurate to say it's a bottom half of leauge O line. Boles at LT had a great year 2 seasons ago...then regressed last year...they have a revolving door at RT, and they have unsettled G-C-G situation as well. Russ had a staggering 10.7 pct sack PTC last year in Seattle. His sack rate has gone up every single season he's played. That offense isn't a sure thing to just fire on all cylinders from the get go.... ....Also....even as the AFC is gauntlet....it's the Bills to win until they don't. The Bills have FAR AND AWAY the best shot at the 1 seed and that important first round bye. No matter what you might think of the other teams in teh AFC...the Bills absolutely should be in position to win two home games to get to the super bowl. Period. As a Chiefs fan...it's the BILLS who are the team to beat and will be the main obstacle once the playoffs start.
-
I probably have much more subdued hopes for that than the average Chiefs fan. Clowney has reached full on mercenary status at this point. He'll wait for camps to start and some team with more money than KC has, will feel he upgrades their DE situation and pay him on a 1 year deal. I suppose that team could be KC, but it is entirely out of the question unless KC can sign Orlando Brown to a new deal that would clear cap space. I think unfortunately, KC is going to head into 2022 with Karlaftis and Clark as starters, and Mike Danna, Josh Kaindoh (a 4th round pick last year who was, and still is a major project and question mark) and some other JAGS at DE. Karlaftis is going to need to really be something......and it's not a good that KC is counting on that....Clowney would be a good addition...but I don't see it.
-
KC used the rare RFA tag on Ingram a while back. It suggests KC understood they weren't likely to be able to resign him, but placing the tag allowed for the following 1. KC would have right to match any contract offer (not likely, KC doesn't have much cap space) 2. If Ingram remained unsigned up to the start of camp (an actual date around that time) then KC would retain exclusive negotiating rights, like a franchise tag and Ingram would have a 1 year deal for 4.2 million as a condition of this tag. 3. If signed, Ingram would figure into the FA compensation formula even though the date for that for all UDFA has now passed. Basically, KC understood Ingram was very likely to get an offer above 4.2 million for this year, but if he didn't, KC could afford him at that rate and would want to keep him for that...but ultimately, KC gets a wee bit of draft pick comp as he has signed elsewhwere...most likely in the 6th round comp pick range. I'd like to have seen KC retain him. He played well once we traded for him.

KC @ Houston Noon CST on CBS Sept 11 week 1. confirmed. Also...unconfirmed is Cheifs @ Raiders week 18 4:25 EST CBS
