Going to try and make this quick because I'm on my limited time lunch break at work, but just something I find to be interesting. I have always felt that we have had better teams in recent years than the 2017 Bills team that snapped the playoff drought, but the difference was that the 2017 Bills were FINALLY getting the lucky breaks that are the difference between wins and losses. If you look at last year's schedule, the Bills basically had 5 games that went down to the wire and were 4-1 in those games. Similarly, we've had 5 games that have gone down to the wire so far this year, and are 2-3 in those games. Turn those 3 losses into wins and the Bills are suddenly 7-6... just like they were at this point last year. And between how the defense completed dominated Deshaun Watson and Houston and had a late lead only to have Peterman literally throw the game away, how Clay dropped the game winning TD against Miami and how we completely blew it against the Jets last week, we probably SHOULD have those 3 wins. In terms of being blown out, last year we lost FIVE games by 13 or more. This year, we have also lost 5 games by 13 or more so far and I realize the season isn't over but out of the Lions, Pats and Dolphins, I would highly doubt 2 of those teams beat us by 13+ at home and if the Pats do it, no surprise, but 6 losses by 13+ is not a heck of a lot different from 5. As far as blowing out our opponent, last year we only beat the Raiders by 13+. This year, we've actually done it twice (Vikings and Jets). Although I will say the season opener against the Jets and season finale against Miami may as well have been blowouts. Simply put, the 2017 Buffalo Bills was our luckiest Bills team in years. We won several games that Bills teams usually just do not win. The only tough break we had was the Zay Jones drop against Carolina, but other than that, any game that went down to the wire turned out in our favor. So what's the point in all of this? Well, I just got kinda tired of hearing about how the 2018 Bills have taken a "huge step back" from 2017, but if you actually think about it, it's not necessarily true. Instead, I would say that neither team was that good, but we deserved last season; a little luck was long overdue...

Being unable to get past the bitter from yesterday’s game has prevented me from appreciating the sweet When Allen got hurt against Houston the collective hope among us was mostly the same: the only thing we wanted to see out of the rest of this season was growth from josh Allen. and so far I’ve seen a lot of growth in two consecutive games, enough growth to take me from being certain the guy is going to bust to feeling like we were right to take him (although I still think Rosen will be special too). So even if we missed out on a nearly historic ending (in an ultimately meaningless game) we are getting what we asked for out of this season down the stretch and that is pretty cool

Remember that one pre season when marrone wanted so badly for EJ to throw ONE pre season TD so he kept him in the game longer than intended... and he STILL couldn’t get a td?? Also, EJ had better run game support than the 2018 bills run game. but as far as his argument, when he says “I wonder why” at the very end please don’t tell me he was implying that he thinks it has to do with race because there are plenty of unemployed QBs- white, black and other - that can make the same argument
-
Peterman has looked horrific in the past but how can you say he was on that level today? Had us driving for the tie before croom fumbles and it’s returned for a td, then has pryor kind of like... flip the ball up for grabs after catching it(?) turning a completed pass into an int, then another pop up pick and by that time it’s 21-0 but can’t say the game got out of hand because of peterman this time, not if we are being honest. It’s just a horrible offense, if it’s not one thing or one person, it’s another because it is again a HORRIBLE offense

Things were looking to be turned around after ending that playoff drought... but that ended as soon as we drafted Josh Allen, and many Bills fans knew that (yet somehow the paid professionals can’t get it right)
-
Just hoping if he misses the rest of the season it’s because the bills are letting him sit back and take notes rather than he is missing the season because we have no choice and this injury is worse than originally thought... After all, the “gamble” on Allen is entirely based on his arm strength, so I really hope that arm is gonna make a full recovery and nothing less
-
For those who saw it, did the refs screw us on the td reversal or was it the right call? The reality is, we were actually in this game, and after last years bogus td reversal against the pats, I couldn’t help but have my doubts. Of course, espn acted like it never happened in the replays but made sure to show the pick 6 that followed, so I’m wondering what happened there

How the hell did I manage to get myself in this situation -
Letting him sit out for a while is the good news in this to me. But the fact that it's an injury that relates to throwing, and now we have to all sit and wait to see if his arm strength is affected, that is what really sucks... especially because he is Josh Allen and without the arm strength, he may not even have been a draft pick period, let alone a first rounder

If we March Peterman out there again...I will....

I remember that game. It was a snow game much like last year's. I think Lynch had one beastly run in the snow and that was our offense for the entire game. -

I guess I'm going to be in the minority on this, but I would honestly expect Peterman to play well against the Colts. There is no denying his bone headed mistakes up to this point, but here are the defenses he has gone against: Looked terrible against.... Chargers Jaguars Ravens Texans If you could choose 4 defenses to start your QB's career against, this would probably be close to a worst case scenario. Then, there was that one start against Indy where he actually played well and didn't have a pick. Not coincidentally, that was not a very good defense, and it still is not a very good defense. Heck, this is why I'm really bummed out that Allen likely can't play because this was the ONE game that I was looking forward to for him. Indy represented an opportunity for Allen to move the ball around more ,build some confidence in himself and the players around him on offense which would help towards this critical second half of the season. It's pretty much the only opportunity like that on our schedule and Allen probably won't get it, so that sucks. Instead, he will probably come back against NE or Chicago which means more panicking and likely developing bad QB habits instead of progressing. -
Bills Defense is Overrated. They Choked.

I will say this... for all the talk about peterman and Allen’s failures, my lasting memory from this game is defense unable to jump on another forced fumble that would have sealed this game. ...but that’s mostly cause I only have faith in our defense to make game winning plays -
Allen looked very good today

I'm talking about how we saw improvement with his footwork in the pre-season and early on in the regular season and then it regressed. That's on Allen to me. -

We also win if Bills run game delivers like last week and Ivory converts on 3rd and 2. Peterman may not even have had to take the field again! -

Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods,, Marquise Goodwin, probably Zay Jones too <--- All would have been good picks for us if we had a QB -

The most excruciating part of it for me.... we have actually done relatively well on our draft picks these past couple years.. arguably very well...................... as long as it isn't the QB position. And this has been going on for years. -

That one hurts, and it'll hurt forever, but Rosen bothers me a lot more... because we were taking a QB for sure and he was there for the taking and just a year before taking Allen we drafted Peterman because of his supposed "NFL readiness" yet I guess that factor was not in play when choosing our franchise QB. I'm still willing to defend allen at this point and give him the rest of this season, but my god, I'll never get over that pick with Rosen on the board. -

Same here, but from what I am hearing, he did start to play better in the second half. The throw that OP is referring to - 39 yard strike to KB - was in the second half and he apparently had another long connection with KB called back on a stupid mistake by Bills that had no impact on the play, also in the second half. Meanwhile, our OL is doing no favors with all the false start penalties and apparently we average 3rd and 9 yards to go on third downs, which Allen deserves part of the blame for, but not all. He has a ways to go, but the Bills are not doing him a lot of favors either, and neither has our schedule for that matter. I'm very interested to see what he looks like against an "average" defense next week. No excuses at that point. -

Jets definitely have a better OL. Kearse is better than anyone we have. Robby Anderson has come on strong for them and had nearly 1000 yards with Josh Mccown at QB last year. Enunwa is also a solid WR. They definitely have a better supporting cast on offense. -

I would not call it "good" but at the same time, I think he is playing smarter than before. He has a lot to work on. I think some of the regression people are seeing in certain areas is because he's trying to focus on fixing other things, but the only thing we can do is remain hopeful because we are all-in on this guy like it or not and hopefully by next year when we improve his supporting cast, we will see it all coming together. REALLY hoping that he can play against the Colts next week because it is completely reasonable to expect 200+ yards passing against that defense and he needs that type of game in order to build some momentum for himself and continue to grow. -
I was disgusted when we drafted Allen over Rosen and I’m not sure if he will ever be able to grow enough to be a solid nfl qb, but I will say this... there has definitely been some signs of growth since the Green Bay game. It has been coming little by little but it has been progress nonetheless. We have been up against a lot of relatively strong defenses too. This is why I really hope he is good to go against the Colts because everyone scores on the Colts so I expect to see his own performance improve when his competition is not as strong. If he were to take a step back against a Colts defense, that’s when I would be feeling sick to my stomach

Have a question (couldn’t watch the game)
ShakAttack replied to ShakAttack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent breakdown of the game. Thank you for that. And definitely agree that a huge part of Allen’s success this season will depend on Daboll’s game planning, recognition of Allen and our offense’s strengths and weaknesses along with our opponent’s defense. Did a great job with that a week ago but followed it up with a train wreck.
