If Gabe Davis was in-bounds on the final drive...
ShakAttack replied to ShakAttack's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree. In fact, each time Allen has targeted Gabe Davis thus far, it's evident they have chemistry that he does not have with most of his other WRs. -

Yeah that one hurt. Would have kept the chains moving and then some. Not sure what kinda space was in front of the intended target (believe that was Shakir?) -
Assuming he catches the ball in-bounds and the Bills punch it in for a TD... That would HAVE to rank at or near the top of Allen's most memorable game winning drives, right?? That catch happens and a lot of the narratives today are flat out erased and/or minimized because the dominating narrative would be stuff like "no matter how ugly it is, the Bills will always have a chance because they have Josh Allen" I don't typically agree with stuff that Dion Dawkins says, but he was right when he said "it's a game of inches" and mentioned the Davis play. I realize this is another hindsight post, but it has always been fascinating to me, how such small margins will dictate perception and outlook. If the Bills win, the Bills defense is still poor and decimated by injuries, the offense is still an inconsistent mess, and yet, you wouldn't be hearing nearly as much about it... if Gabe Davis got a second foot in-bounds. For me, personally, that play is the first thing that comes to mind when I reflect on last night's game. What an unfortunate wasted opportunity. That truly would have made this another one of Allen's memorable moments and it would have made that 4th and 27 conversion even more special.

The attention Dion Dawkins got via Josh Allen winning MVP seems to have him in his own world

Allen missed a wide open Knox on the final play
ShakAttack replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
I blame it on Gabe Davis and his second foot. If he catches that pass in bounds, suddenly you have one of the most unbelievable and spectacular game winning drives in Josh Allen’s career, and this entire narrative never happens… Least not this week. Ugh… seriously though, when I think about this game, I flash back to that one play. That was the opportunity right there. As Dawkins said afterwards “game of inches” -

Yes, it obviously does, but Diggs also went out of his way to make sure they were ready to go from day one. And I believe that's part of making Allen comfortable looking his way too. I believe Palmer is more talented than people give him credit for. And, for what it's worth, even though he's never been a "star" receiver, he was still more productive with the Chargers than Bills. -

True... but of all our WRs... Palmer is likely the best route runner with decent ability to separate. There have been a lot of instances this season in which Palmer has been open, but Allen isn't looking his way and/or just doesn't throw to him. Not sure if it's the lack of chemistry and reps playing together or what. Allen definitely seems like the type of QB that needs time to build trust and chemistry with his receivers. I think Shakir is a good example of that. Diggs hit the ground running and the connection with Allen was there from Day 1, but I remember hearing about how Diggs was always talking to Allen during his first off-season with the Bills and working extra hard to develop chemistry, so that obviously helps. -

As far as the shoulda woulda stuff... The offensive PI on 4th and 6... Despite everything, that sure looked like defensive PI to me. One of our receivers is tackled in the middle of the field during his route. Even the Texans seemed to be convinced that flag was going to be on them. Surprised this isn't getting any attention given all the things that have. -
Is watching the Bills fun for you these days?
ShakAttack replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Watching the Bills is a little easier for me this season because I don't have realistic expectations. As far as fun, that's an interesting question, because for me personally, the experience of watching a Bills game - especially a close game - is often defined by how it ends, despite everything that transpired previously in the game. In this case, if Gabe is able to get a 2nd foot in bounds, that final Bills drive instantly becomes one of the Top 5 game winning drive in Allen's career for me, maybe even Top 3, considering the 4th and 27 play. So... yeah... that would have been "fun" I think. And a great memory with the Allen to Gabe connection returning. Now, I would NOT have realistic expectations for the team even if we did win, but it would have been an AWESOME ending to the game. Make no mistake. -
He also let us all know in his previous post game presser that he embraces imperfection and cool with making mistakes here and there because hey it’s normal; it happens! Rather at least hear him say something like “I need to work on pre-snap penalties going forward” knowing he seems to be leading the OL in those flags this season. The irony of him calling out Coleman last week after saying that stuff wasn’t lost on me.

Didn't Mills start 1 for 8? Makes this all even worse. -
Game week thread - Bills at Texans TNF
ShakAttack replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
A few weeks ago, I thought KC -2 was easy money. I thought they'd win. Last week, I thought, TB +5.5 was easy money. I thought we'd win, but by less than 5.5, In my defense, that did look like a game that would be decided by less than 5.5 points the entire time. I mean... 9 LEAD CHANGES!!! So the Bills are now 2-0 when I bet against them, and once again, I think our opponent at +5.5 is the better bet. Again, I think we win, but by less. Houston has an elite defense, and their 2 home losses this season were decided by 3 (to the Broncos) and 1 (to the Bucs). That said, I'm sorry Bills Mafia, because as good as it feels to be part of the reason the Bills are winning every time I bet against them, my bank account does not agree. -
We should sign Gabe Davis to the 53
ShakAttack replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Indeed. Josh was joking around about how he "felt bad" for throwing it a little too hard on the 1st or 2nd and goal dropped pass (forgot which down it was). And I'm thinking to myself, well it's not like he didn't catch one just like that a couple plays earlier 😂 That one was a laser too. Between the two, that 4th down was a MUST HAVE. No second chances on that one. -

As ridiculous as I know this sounds, I genuinely believe the Bills allowed Allen to have too much input on the WR he wanted to target from this draft class, and I do believe he (Allen) asked for Keon, and this had been reported previously as many of us already know. In the season prior to drafting Keon, we had an ongoing issue with receivers that could NOT make contested catches. This issue ended up being the reason at least a few of Allen's INTs happened; they were contested situations where the other team's DB "won" the ball from our WRs. There were also a couple deep shots in the playoffs where our WRs - including Diggs - failed to come down with the ball and this likely resulted in the notion that our offense needed a WR that can make contested catches, and unfortunately, that led to Allen and/or the Bills honing in a little too much on Coleman, the WR from the class that was all about the "contest catch" trait. The weird thing about the Bills suddenly becoming hyper-focused on acquiring a receiver that could make contested catches is that it wasn't really a "thing" that our offense had a "problem" with prior to the 2023 season, in the first place. But unfortunately, since it was a theme in our most recent season, it became a focal point, when arguably other things should have been instead... A couple other things come to mind, like if the Bills were purposeful in seeking out the "anti-Diggs" receiver as if to prove a point or something after releasing Diggs. To prove to everyone "See Diggs could never do this for us". Well, too bad we have more memories of Coleman flailing his arms in the air than doing that which he was drafted to do. (But if we were going for the "anti-Diggs" I would have much preferred the field stretcher anti-Diggs with 4.3 or better speed. Forget the contested catches, THE DEEP THREAT is what has been missing Allen's entire career). Bottom line though. The pick was always a mistake. We're just getting the "worst case scenario" of it, it seems.
