I think a lot of folks in here just knew that Spain came from the Titans---starting so many games for an organization that's had more recent on-field success than the Bills---and likely convinced themselves that Spain was really solid because he was so trusted in protecting their "franchise QB". I'm surprised at how Spain seems to be regarded a shoo-in at LG; I thought from the jump that he was being brought in to compete for a spot (RG specifically), but would ultimately serve as O-line depth if retained. I'm really surprised that Spencer Long doesn't even seem to be in the mix for the LG position, because he's who I thought would solidify the left side of the line playing alongside Dawkins.

You must know something about Nathaniel Hackett. -
What is weak link after game 2 of preseason?
BurpleBull replied to Orlando Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Before preseason started I was saying how I didn't think Spain would be a starter; I thought Spencer Long was best suited to play LG. I still hold to Dawkins LT, Long LG, Morse C, Feliciano RG, and Ford RT as the most dominant lineup. -
I don't get it.

I guess you'll just have to be last to get onboard, after it's become abundantly clear how integral Devin Singletary is to the Bills' success; most of the positive attributes that he brings to the team were on display versus the Colts. I'm not saying you have some agenda to take away from what Devin Singletary brings to the table, but you seem to be trying really hard to not see what he brings to the table; maybe that's why you made mention of his last three carries being better than his first three (his 3rd and 5th carries were arguably his best), as if that has any bearing on anything. Perhaps you just have an affinity for LeSean McCoy: that might explain you stating, "It's still Shady's team", as if consensus is that McCoy's status on the team is currently being threatened by Singletary. Singletary displayed the same attributes found in his FAU highlight reels; he showed the excellent vision and ability to slip tackles. He also showed the ability to catch the ball: something he did very little of in college. Devin Singletary set the Bills' up for 2nd-and short rushing the ball, 3rd-and-manageable after a 2nd-and-10, and accounted for four of the Bills' eleven first downs by the time he exited the ballgame (two rushing and two receiving). My biggest concern was Singletary's ability as a pass protector given his size, but during the broadcast it was mentioned that Sean McDermott didn't see it as a point of concern because Singletary had shown well in that area during camp. I haven't felt as confident in a Bills' running back going for positive yardage each time he touched the ball since Fred Jackson; if Singletary holds up in each of the areas mentioned, then there would be absolutely no reason to keep him off of the field, or reason to believe that he wouldn't be an All-Time great Bills' RB when his career was all said and done.

Bills Training Camp Day 13 (8/11)
BurpleBull replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perhaps it was because he was going against 2nd string players, but when Ford moved to RT he actually looked more at ease IMO. There were a few points in the game where a speed rush attacking the interior of the O-line seemed to overwhelm Ford while at RG; I thought NFL speed rushers could give him problems at RT and that he was probably better suited at RG, but he looked more vulnerable as an interior blocker. Not horrible, just more vulnerable than I expected. -
Your initial suggestion was that McDermott kept Peterman from being exposed to a defense's starting unit even once in preseason last year. There would be no "And after that?", to be posed if what you stated were true. Simple.

I won't be surprised if DeOndre Wesley is next to follow.

Bills Training Camp Day 13 (8/11)

Looking more and more like Spain is a lock at LG in the minds' of the coaches; I was sure Long would get the LG spot and Spain would battle it out with Feliciano at RG. -
What do you mean "And after that"? You said he was kept from facing ANY starters. Each QB's preseason performance and position on the "depth chart" after training camp determined how soon and how much action each saw against the opposition's starting unit; Peterman from most accounts, was the most consistent QB during training camp: He got the first preseason start, McCarron was next, and Josh Allen---who the coaches were bringing along slowly---was last to start. Peterman had a really good showing in his first start; McCarron put up pedestrian numbers before getting hurt in his first start and Josh Allen was granted the chance to move up the depth chart, in relief of McCarron ahead of Peterman; Josh Allen started the very next game, had a bad showing, and Peterman came in to relieve him in that game; McCarron recovered from his injury in time to play the final preseason game, and was given the whole game to make up for loss time due to the injury and to reestablish himself in the competition after his poor performance. McDermott played each QB from a logical standpoint, based on what each showed.

Not true. Peterman started the first game versus the Panthers and each QB was rotated with the starting unit.

Devin Singletary will be an All-Time great Bills' RB if he remains relatively healthy for a career and the Bills' are able to maintain a good to great O-line. Didn't know there was much hype after his first game, but it's evident why people would be excited after watching the first preseason game.
